It's not as powerful as I thought it would be, but it works very well. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxGjG43--gYqIoT4Xkur2PqCrtbKwTv2h6 There are three options to circulate air, and best of all a remote control for us lazy people. Installation was a breeze (no pun intended). It actually took longer to open the box then it did putting the side extenders on and sitting it in the window opening. It's a perfect alternative when you want airflow, but not the AC. Just might order another one for a different room. UPDATE: Bought another one like I said. They work great. Why not have two...
*Works amazingly **Fastly.Cool** . I love all the features and the double expansion. For once a fan is almost as tall as my window. Updated but not overly fancy.*
The issues you started with were exactly my concerns before installing this. And it's exactly why I searched for an installation video for this fan. I'm glad my concerns were justified and I thank you for this video

This is brilliant. I will be putting up a 20” fan, even the same brand! Definitely helped, made me realize some things I hadn’t thought of. Like cutting a circular hole and not. A square one. Putting this in a 12’x24’ goat barn with a steel roof and no insulation.

also with the homart or anything with a deeper pitch on there the louvers would be standing straight out and in the summer when its really hot or if there is gaseous fumes in there they would be sucked out a few seconds faster than that blade and it might be quieter too but onoy if you wanted to

I ordered a 24" shutter fan for my metal barn. It gets quite hot in the summer and I need to get the heat moved from the ceiling inside. It arrived this coming Thursday. I'll keep you posted

Thanks. Too bad I had to move from that house. Townhouse I'm in now doesn't have an outside wall for a fan. But on the plus side, because 3 walls are attached to a building, it says pretty warm in winter and cool in summer (insulated garage door helps a lot).

dude for get the blade that came with it just take a blade from a vintage homart window fan and stick it on the motor because of the dip pitch or some with an even bigger pitch
Very Helpful video as I attempt a similar feat with my 2 car detached garage in SC.
Did you happen to have a thermometer in your shop pre-fan and post fan? Wondering just what kind of temp difference it made. I might hook mine up to a XMAS lights timer so it goes on for 5-10 minutes every couple hours during the day.
No, I never checked the temps, but could feel the air flow in the shop, which also helped with the air quality. Thanks for the comment.

Great video. I want to install one in my garage because it is so hot. How does it keep critters from entering the garage? Is there a screen or is that what the lovers are suppose to do?

louvers.
No screen. The louvers will keep out anything large. Small things will probably get through the garage door anyway, so it doesn't matter.

@@DerrickWheatley Not sure what you mean. The entire louver assembly can be remomved from the fan housing, then installed separately like I did. Does that help?
Can those vent “blades” on the outside be painted same out the house or trim color to blend in more
Good question. I suppose they can, but you have to be careful not to gum up the pivot points with paint. I think spraying them would be your best bet.
Where did you purchase this exhaust fan? Was the name "High Living" if I heard correctly, thanks for great video!
Hi, it was iLiving ILG8SF18V 18 in Exhaust Fan, bought at Home Depot. Right now it's $132.41 at Home Depot. I ordered it and had it shipped right to me.
Thank for the reply. Been looking on Amazon and different models. Found another brand called VES, it cost more but it comes with a 9ft cord so electrical knowledge needed, just plug it in. Shipment is free since it is over $25, and can buy a programmable unit to plug into wall then plug unit into that. Some of the reviews on Amazon, complained that the louvers did not close all the way on Iliving brand and there is a gap of 3/4" on the sides. I need it for garage, and don't want rain or anything sneaking in. Weather can be extreme here in Vegas. Thanks again for great video!
Larry, nice video. I have a Broan vent louver mounted on my garage and it lets in wind driven rain and I fear snow in a month or so. How well does this Iliving vent louver seal. I'm going to have to redo my louvers and am trying to decide which louver I'm going to use. I hope you'll let me know. Thanks, Ralph-
Hi Ralph, I've had some pretty hard rains and have NOT had any leaking into the garage, even though you can still see a little light from inside the garage when looking through the louvers. I did make sure to seal all around the louvers with silicone caulk--i think that's what makes it a good job. I've not spent a winter with the louvers yet, and actually, just moved, so I guess I won't be.
@@knotnowwoodworking Thanks for the reply Larry. I'm going with a Dayton louver that has a tie rod. I think when I install it I'm going to drill a hole in the tie rod and fit a spring mount and put a weak spring to positively close them. Silicone is definitely in the mix as well. Already have fan but wanting to get shutters for exhausting air to outside like yours is. Where would best place to get shutters? Have mine blowing thru a normal window screen but thought maybe would work better if just shutters and no screen to produce any resistance.
That's a good question. I don't know where to look, but maybe someone else reading these comments can lend a hand...

Did you put a cover over the fan in the winter
No, I just watched for leaks and never had any. I wasn't too concerned about cold air coming in, I had a heater in the garage. And besides, I only did limited work in the winter (detached garage with no insulation).
Do the shutters prevent the cold air from coming in during the winter?
Well, considering the size of the garage door (and man-door), the fan really presents a minimal path for cold air. I never considered it a problem...

What size fan should I need for a 10x16 shed it gets hot 🥵 in there have 2 windows but it’s not enough
I have no idea--but I'd go large and put it on a fan control so you can slow it down if necessary.

No. According the the manual, this fan is designed to be mounted verically (i.e., in a wall).
how effective was it for removing heat from the garage on hot summer days?
I moved out of that house and shop not long after installing the fan, so I don't have extensive experience with it (unfortunately). But it was very powerful and would actually hold the man-door open when it was on. To cool the garage, I would open the garage door a small amount so air flowed from under the door and out the fan near the ceiling. This worked very well.

Those this fan have have outward exhaust inward cooling?
This fan is an exhaust fan only--air only goes from inside the garage to outside.

I think you're asking about how much the temperature changes because of the fan. I really cannot say--I moved out of that house (and shop) before I had extensive experience with the fan. But I do know that it moved a lot of air.

No, I never checked. I would now except I moved from that home. Sorry.

I think you needed to read the instructions first. You totally screwed this install up! The fan, in one piece, mounts to the exterior wall from the inside. Please, if anyone views this video on how to install an exhaust fan. Don't. What else does this guy work on? Heaven help us all. Argh@
