Blue belt here. All these sweeps and positions we have done numerous times and all work great. But not being able to think and remember quick enough to put them into a seemless game makes this sport so addictive. One day, one day. Thank you!
Tou guys Just need to Focus on 2 ir 3 positions, train everyday until You get real good, then you choose another one that can link to thenone tou trained before...
Thanks Rick, I think teaching strategies and sequences is more effective than isolated techniques. As an older athlete (56 yr old blue belt), I’m no longer strong enough to force an outcome. Your videos have been really helpful to me in changing my game.
Hey Rick, another awesome video. Good for everyone, but great for "old man" jiu jitsu. Not enough people chain techniques in my opinion. I really like the "do this, if he does that" and so on approach.... 2-3 options from each of the most common positions is great for recreational jiu-jitsu folks like me. Thanks again.
I am 45 and just started BJJ with my daughter. I love your approach and explanations to your videos. I am really enjoying what I learn and love being part of something bigger than me. Great stuff! Keep ‘em coming!
I love this simple approach and great instruction from Prof Ellis! I needed to see this as I seem to get in half guard a lot but had no plan once I was there. Thank you!!❤. I’ll be watching this a lot until Ive mastered these techniques.
Excellent overview. I appreciate you taking the time to break this down for us. As a blue belt, I find myself in the half guard often. The issue for me are larger competitors and always getting their head above mine. This provides some excellent ideas to build off of. Thank you!
Fantastic vid! Really for all Half guarders, at 5:00 minutes you blew my mind with "in body is the essence of BJJ, wich is going around the obstacle", damn! When i learnt this concept i applied the back take as one of the priorities in my half guard game and had second sweeps. I really liked the way you go for the back keeping the same bottom feet hook pinched. I have seen people doing that with the coyote changing the feet but the way you show i feel that i can be faster and get my opponents leg really that locked. I have discovered your channel these days your didatics is really diferentiated and very well done. Keep up the good work!
please keep making these. This helped me so much! I go to my back in half guard all the time. Now I’m not gonna do that lol The details are so important.
Awesome video. I love playing lockdown from half guard. Pretty much the only game I have against bigger guys. Didn’t know there were so many different options from half. I feel like I’m always flat on my back…
A superior video; instead of repetition of one move, this looks at various situations created in the half guard. i cant believe how much ive gotten from this thanks coach.
Thanks for yet another brilliantly put together instructional video Rick, you've got such a great way of both shooting and presenting these. I look forward to every one and hope to get up to 3rd Way in the not so distant future.
I really like that sweep that you use when Jordan whizzers, but another I like better is more a Leite move of continuing to move into coyote and then just escaping the whizzer and continuing to move to back. If that doesn't work then diving for the original sweep or deep half seems to work nice. Most of the time though if you've reaped their near leg enough you'll get back. This is super cool though. I'm a half guard player and love your channel :)
Thanks for this professional video. Very clear and engaging. How is your approach different than simply “techniques from half guard” ? Is it the same? I may be missing some nuances. When you mentioned building an order of operations, I was intrigued. I’m still at the place where I am trying to flow chart my game (got the idea from you) and drill the transitions.
Knowing a bunch a techniques from a position is useful, but not as useful as knowing how your opponents behave from a position, and then making sure you have techniques that take that data into account. When I suggest building a strategic framework, what I'm suggesting is that you first understand the behavior of your opponents, then build a game plan that gives you solutions for each problem.
This video is missing the melodic tune from the previous video. When I first started jiujitsu that video put me in the right mindset. Great video though.
Good wrap up but arguably anyone above 3-stripe white belts should auto whizzer on your way to the dogfight position as otherwise it's obvious they'll get their back taken.
Another great vid, professor. It's obvious you put a lot of thought into prep and production. Quick question -- Do you prefer the low knee shield to high? I suck at half guard, but have always played it with a high knee shield because I feel like it's a better frame for absorbing top pressure, but I get no pinch. Do you prefer a low approach because it allows for a better pinch? Thanks again!
for me it works for better pinch in high knee shield half if u keep an active hook of ur bottom foot leg. If the foot is dead, its loose, and will be easier for them to pass.

100%. That’s what defines blue belt. I’m in the same boat. Trying to take all the pieces and put them together to make a plan.
@@matthewcrawford4216 Same, it's a long road boys!
same here!! i know what to do... each time i know!!! but not yet enough intuitive so im keeping working on timing!! (aka reps lol!!)
Tou guys Just need to Focus on 2 ir 3 positions, train everyday until You get real good, then you choose another one that can link to thenone tou trained before...
This video changed my life. I think the half guard stuff is finally clicking. I love you
I came thinking I'll watch a Danaher's video but stayed for you, sir. Your content is pure gold and the editing is perfect.

This is what I love about BJJ. So many intricacies and strategies. Now to actually get them down! :)
I know, right!? I’m circling back around to focus on half guard after working through Lachlan Giles’ series 2 years ago... filling in the blanks!
Thank you Rick. So great strategy and details from half guard.

Rick, these videos are worth their weight in gold! The attention to detail is excellent, as is the clean instruction.
Thanks Rick. I am new to BJJ, and find myself in the half guard on the bottom frequently. This gives me some strategies from that position.
I am 45 and just started BJJ with my daughter. I love your approach and explanations to your videos. I am really enjoying what I learn and love being part of something bigger than me. Great stuff! Keep ‘em coming!
This is perfect. This type of video is way better than what I have seen from other creators. This is closer to the training we do in my gym.
I love this simple approach and great instruction from Prof Ellis! I needed to see this as I seem to get in half guard a lot but had no plan once I was there. Thank you!!❤. I’ll be watching this a lot until Ive mastered these techniques.
Amazing video. Great job breaking everything down. And absolutely LOVE the location of the video.
Rick thanks for yr amazing help. 50 yr old white belt beginning the journey with my 16yr old son.
Totally enthused from Australia
great demo master, good job guys

toe hold, bow and arrow choke, gogoplata please thank you
I love the series concept. I could watch this over and over.
This is a fantastic overview of the half guard both defensively, and transitioning into offensive techniques from bad starting positions. Great video.

I really like the breakdown and repetition style in this video. Really helps me visualize the details I've been needing work on.
One of the best, if not the best half guard instructional ive ever seen
Your videos are exceptionally well done and much appreciated. Very artistic, organized and to the point. Thank you.

Beautiful, effective, basic half guard game gameplan here. I work on the little details of my half guard game in privates regularly.
Really like that dogbone knee bar after that old school sweep. Can't wait to try it out now, thanks.
Great video. I’m 62 just finished my 3 class. This stuff is incredibly
This is beautiful. It was all I was looking for. Now, I just have to watch it several times until it gets inside my head. Thanks! Oss!
Nice! I find myself in bottom half a lot, there are some real gems in this tutorial that im keen to try next class
Awesome video. I have been playing with half guard since I find myself getting there quite frequently when defending and this helps.
Love the halfguard! Thanks.
Great content! I’ve become a fan of your channel over the last couple of months.
Excellent thank you! Appreciate the different camera angles too!
I just love this type of video.
This is a totally amazing video. Just what I was looking for.
THANK YOU❤❤❤you're an excellent teacher.
Love your content! Its been a big help in my bjj journey! Keep it up and take care!

Fantastic as always
Thanks for posting this lesson. Much appreciated!!
Thank you for this! More positional strategies plz?
For someone who only focuses on being on top this is good.
Awesome Video. Please keep them coming
This is great! Love half guard and always looking for ways to improve it. Thanks.
This channel is awesome!
Great video, thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks for the video.
Brilliant video!
Really awesome video.
Oh man.. I remember seeing you go through a crucible on Roy's channel. Man I like the way you explain things. Submitted!😁 Get it?
Nice video. Thanks for the instruction.
This is brilliant. I can't wait to train and implement these.
Lovely video. Learnt a lot from it 🙏
Excellent video, I’m hoping that you plan to do a similar video on closed guard and all the other major position.
Thank you
Great, thanks for Details, and all vievs
Another great video 🤙🏼
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge! OSS!
Who else clicked this thinking it was danaher
I prefer Rick’s approach!
Still watched good video
If it looks like it’s danaher, I don’t click.
This is really nice and realistic
This is nice, THANKS!
in knee shield/z guard, with your top foot exposed you risk a rolling toe hold. I prefer to cross the bottom foot on top.
Great video thanks.
This is amazing stuff
This video is missing the melodic tune from the previous video. When I first started jiujitsu that video put me in the right mindset. Great video though.
Awesome strategies
Awesome!
Absolute Gold!!,
This is gold

Where is jordan’s video?
What are you talking about? His purple belt demo? It's on the channel. Not that hard to find.Just search for Jordan Ellis purple belt demo.
Very kind 😂
👍👌🤙
because of your instructional videos my favorite position is half guard and i'm killing it 😂❤thanks again ☝️🙏🫵🏻🫡
Great video!
Awesome!
