    The Ice Cream man Cometh is definitely my favourite. With 'Leonard' the oldest paper boy a close 2nd.

    For context, these Peter Kay Thing documentaries were parodies of early reality-tv shows. Well known examples included 'Driving School' (a show about people trying to pass their driving test), 'The Cruise' (life aboard a cruise ship) and 'Airport' (the day-to-day running of an airport). These shows were known as docu-soaps and helped to inspire the original UK version of 'The Office'.

    Just a bit of info on Chorley FM: it was a real radio station in a nearby town called Chorley (my hometown). Which is about 15 miles from Bolton where Phoenix Nights was set. It was essentially a parody of Century FM on the show I think as the station Chorley FM wasn't properly established until 2005 but had a temporary license since 2000 which would coincide with Phoenix Nights. I know they hated the comparison to the fictional station though and didn't find the slogan 'Coming In Your Ears' entertaining. I know somebody who briefly worked there and they were told under no circumstance can they ever mention anything to do with the show, slogan or the fictional station.

      I used to be on said radio station. And you’re right with the last bit.

      I know one of the guys involved with it a few years back, he seemed a little more relaxed about the fictional station.
      I have worked with Dave Spikey though and was told under no circumstances should I mention Peter Kay.

    The "Lion in the Window" is from a deleted scene and is played by the same actor as Ray Von in Phoenix Nights.

    I remember well coach drivers counting the passengers each time you got on and off and yes the ten minute stretch your leg thing I can relate to as well, unless the driver needed a meal break then you were left waiting outside a locked coach frightened to move as he may return at any time and you'd end up like the 'French Couple!'

    Channel 4 really are going to do a real life documentary about a motorway service station, Tebay Services on the M6, often voted one of the top services in the country. The programme will be broadcast on Saturday 10th July at 8pm.
    There was also a programme about Little Chef being revamped by Heston Blumenthal in 2009. RIP Little Chef.

    You might already know but since they never really explained it, a service station is something you’d find on a turnoff of a motorway. It’s basically a stop off with usually things like a Burger King and a little shop so people can get food and go the toilet mid journey.

    13:00 - that is so real. I've been on many a coach where that has happened. "I said be back at 1730, it's now 1731". "I know you're running behind the coach, but you're late, I've left". Ironically I was going to Barnsley too (as he mentioned a few seconds before).

    I forgot Sian Gibson (credited as Sian Foulkes) was in this episode, years before she did Peter Kay's Car Share. And also Paddy McGuiness too.
    I think the person in the lion costume was a little nod to Peter Kay's early standup career when he used to wear that costume on stage, unless I'm much mistaken.

  • @seedhillbruisermusic7939
    @seedhillbruisermusic7939 3 года назад +4

    pretty funny of course but the yellow-jacketed ARC guy is supposed to be Scottish. Peter Kay's Scottish accent is not really up to scratch. Bless him. At least he tried. It's certainly better than any American attempt I've heard, and that includes Groundskeeper Wullie from the Simpsons.

    • @YanoshRagauld
      @YanoshRagauld 2 года назад +1

      The stolen shots filmed throughout this series make for some great authentic interactions and reactions. In this episode the Scottish ARC guy's interactions tickle me well.
      ,"Could you say that again in English?"..
      ( That was not scripted),
      "Effing smart arse",, beautiful.
      Peter is switched on with his finger right in the pulse. He is a consumate character actor. His lack of tv output since , soap star Superstar Jesus Christ on ice ( a brilliant takedown of TV's "Fame culture" programing) only goes to demonstrate how uncluttered his intentions are, how worthy his motivations are. He doesn't miss a thing. He became the collective memory bank or our generation in re pointing out how funny it all was.
