My grandfather emigrated from Denmark to the USA in 1903. My grandfather was an excellent craftsman. His name was Soren Christian Frederiksen.
My father was the first born American in his Danish Family.
I built furniture for 20 years to include Amercian Shaker which is nothing more than copies of Swedish furniture from 100 years earlier.
I also made Swedish, Gustavian, Doukhobor, Russian, Ukranian, Mennonite, Hutterite etc All from Eastern and Northern Europe and Scandinavia.
I, too, prefer Danish design. Far more creative, imaginative and comfortable. Perhaps it is time for me to make some Danish furniture.
BTW we do have many Swedish ancestors as well, all craftsmen and artists, And the Swedish language is much easier to learn than Danish : )
Do you know of the Malmsten Skol (school) Design , Furniture etc ?
    I enjoy your videos.

This designer has always been one of my favorites within the "MCM universe". I think his vision, inventiveness and the talent he had to materialize pieces born of his imagination with great success is really admirable. Not in vain many of his designs are iconic. I have a Flag Halyard Chair from Manhattan Home Design and I really like using it a lot.

That was a great introduction to Wegner - his designs are so pleasing and elegant. I heard snippets of "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" again. Tack så mycket!

Just came back from Tønder, thank you so much for this nice video on Wegner. My Mother was a huge fan of Scandinavian design and I grew up with the Wishbone Chairs.

No mention of the shell chair? Maybe his most unique design!

Yeah, it's obviously a wonderful chair. But Wegner never really succeeded as a designer of plywood furniture. He tried, and created some really nice pieces, but he always returned to solid wood. Guess it had to do with the fact that he was trained as a cabinetmaker already as a teenager.

lastly this is soo super informative. there was a company here in Canada called "Deilcraft" that made a chair super similar to the CH33. I was going to start trying to remake those myself haha. I will have to dig into this more!

Yeah, there's quite a few companies around the world inspired by Wegner. And Scandinavian designers seems to have a special connection with Canada. Henningsen traveled in Canada and was inspired by the forests to design his fantastic Axe-table.

Both the Round chair and Wishbone chair were inspired by the Ming chair.
They are simplified version through Wegner's process.

Absolutely true! The Wishbone was a development of the Chinese chairs designed by Wegner some years prior. Danish designers was often highly inspired by Chinese craftsmanship.

Once I heard his quote. It sounds like this: "sitting is the most unnatural pose for human. So you can not design perfect chair. You can only deign one new way of sitting." Is it his real quote, do you know?

      @ScandinavianDesign101  10 месяцев назад

I think so. At least I’ve heard it too. But as always with old quotes, one has to take it with a grain of salt.
