- Greenberg brings actor Ben Stiller together with Academy Award-nominated writer/director Noah Baumbach ("The Squid and the Whale") to tell the funny and moving tale of Roger Greenberg. Focus Features releases Greenberg in select cities on March 26th, 2010.
Roger Greenberg [Ben Stiller], single, fortyish and at a crossroads in his life, finds himself in Los Angeles, house-sitting for six weeks for his more successful/married-with-children brother. In search of a place to restart his life, Greenberg tries to reconnect with old friends including his former bandmate Ivan [Rhys Ifans]. But old friends aren't necessarily still best friends, and Greenberg soon finds himself spending more and more time with his brother's personal assistant Florence [Greta Gerwig], an aspiring singer and also something of a lost soul. Despite his best attempts not to be drawn in, Greenberg and Florence manage to forge a connection, and Greenberg realizes he may at last have found a reason to be happy.

This film dissolved a marriage.
Probably more than one
Came across this movie on Demand @ my aunt's house. Restlessness & Boredom led me to it. It was surprisingly good. It was different. I was curious to see Ben Stiller's role in this. While he's the same in almost every movie I enjoyed his character. Blunt, Honest and to the point. While watching the movie I noticed I related to it most aspects of it. Weird but happy I came across this. Made me think about my life and few other things going on in the present. Anyways, not the best movie I've ever seen of course but something worth mentioning and recommending.
Yes this! Really well written movie
Just watched it and I agree! :)
This comment is four years old. I wonder what has happened to the writer of it in the last four years.
Its kinda wired when you think about the fact both Noah Baumbach's then wife and his current wife were both in this movie. Kinda makes you wonder what was going on behind the scenes.
most probably exactly that! :/
i didn't see that you had an answer so i'll throw it on here. - All My Friends by LCD Soundsystem.

@MBLAAMABA You should watch GREENBERG again and look deeper and you will find something truly rich and real.

Wow the ex and the mistress in one movie
yep. some people have no shame and take whatever they want no matter how much it hurts others. some people mistakenly marry and work with such people and have to live to regret it
What is this in reference to?
@@parthjagtap5447 Noah Baumbach's then wife and new wife in this movie!
what is it with mid life crisis movies these days?
Because the 2008 crash made everyone lose their jobs. Everyone is having a crisis. Ready-made audience.

Ty fallen racoon
Looks like a real average film. Count me in!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
@FallenRaccoon What is the meaning to you? What is Greenberg trying to accomplish in this film. Not the character but what is the film trying to do? I'll give it a shot again someday its just that I have no interest watching it now. That tis all.
Such a oscar bait movie
um, whats the plot?

@MBLAAMABA Isn't that the point? That this guy is doing nothing and yet it's not trivial? I haven't seen it but this movie looks like a whole lot of nothing, yet it's not trivial.
The type of man you don't want to be
Why
Yep
Or to be involved with.
looks like a more serious movie for ben stiller
he's actually done quite a few serious movies. I was surprised myself

Would anyone recommend this movie?
horrible audio
Putting Starbucks and culture in the same sentence is a sin
@bearshaman0 agree
This film is both very funny and very sobering.
Very funny because Greenberg is such an asshole. Sobering because he reminds me of myself. 🙁
Umm, I'm a fan of action and scifi movies..if it's a relationship movie asking me to think..not for me. I'd burn my brain out trying to figure out a scifi movie with cryptic Higgs-Boson references, but yeah..not for lovey dovey relationship movies. But looks like a good one. And if my gf gets away with it, she might pull me through to watch something like this, and I'd have nothing to say.
It’s got a car in it. You might like that.
Seems VERY anti-climactic, from start to finish. 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤣
seems like it is trying too hard to pretend that it isn't trying hard
Can something be anti-climactic at the start? I’d want to see that.
This is the most fucking boring and utterly depressing movie I've ever seen
Severtson02' Just saw it on Netflix, it was one of the worst and most boring movies in the world, there wasn't even a plot and it was pretty depressing
Chris Martin at what point did you decide that the movie was shitty ? After the first 30min I would know
Fred Bread About 30 minutes or 20 minutes, I just didn't find it very interesting and it didn't seem like it had a plot other than following Ben around
It's a Noah Baumbach film? I think you had the wrong expectations
@bearshaman0 lmao
Eudud
.........................
@nothingtodo225 because baby boomers pay for movies DUH!
@BiodegradableHumans It is pointless and a waste of time. Don't watch it.
This movie was so atrocious, I could barely watch ten minutes of it. His character was narcissistic and pathetic.
Directionless, hedonistic garbage. Why anyone would be interested in the Greenberg character is beyond me.
slow uneventful intellectual movie
Dry. Humorless. Each sentence in every scene is random. Making for an aimless, stream of consciousness movie. Character growth is nonexistent. And perhaps worst if all, the protagonist never becomes likable, thus no one is rooting for him. Uugghh.
Keep yourself to superhero movies then lol. It's almost like it was your first Baumbach movie or something...
So the acting is really great, but the movie just isn't for everyone. There's a lot of plot, a lot of things happening, but very little is resolved or accomplished; the film almost feels like a stream of consciousness to which we're privy. What WILL Greenberg do after the six weeks are up? Will he stay with Florence? Will he jilt her? In the end, does it really matter? Probably not; the ending is abrupt, although not out of place for the rest of the film. But one really needs to be atuned to Greenberg's plight in order to enjoy the film. If one isn't, the movie's mostly dull with bits of funny moments interspersed throughout. I didn't find it terribly heartwarming, just a character study of an unlikable character. Which is not a bad thing at all
@@raulrajendra4053 Hell, II actually liked ole Greenberg... He had me laughing a lot, especially when he said "I'm making my brother's family a doghouse".,,etc and the party scene was hilarious to me.
Ole Greenberg is A Ok with me.. I liked this character. I rooted for him.
It can't be any worse then that movie "Patterson"! Worst of all time!!!
great a fail movie about a guy living off of other people.
Aka "The life of a liberal"

Probably a great movie. Endless crappy music.
Absolutely embarrassing, just terrible movie. I'm 25, so honestly I'm pretty sure I'm incapable of "getting" it, but I don't want to "get" it anyways. I don't care for the pretentious millennial-pandering style of this movie. I think it made it age hideously. Ben Stiller's character is another realm of disgusting. Yea, I know hes supposed to be shitty. But it's too much honestly. 1/10 don't watch it unless you're a Millennial because you will hate it.
I watched it when I was 21, four years ago. Liked it. But I'm from Kashmir not America. So maybe that's the reason. lol
Thought i'd like it. I did not. Not at all.
Wow what a privilege to be jewish, just hang out in new york and do nothing for a while.
What's being Jewish got to do with it?
Oh, I get it. You're an anti-Semite.
What a disappointment. If you are into narcissist men who drive women to abortion appointments, then you will love this movie. Hard pass for me on this.
Indeed there is a car in the movie
I feel like people in chat were all paid to make comments about this movie. I never seen a movie where I just got depression from the start. It's my third day I am still trying my best to watch this till end. If I don't comment again it's cause I just gave up on life and this was the movie that pushed me to that. Everything about this movie is boring so far. I never knew that you could capture what it was like to sit in a place that is flooding and you no longer care and can't wait to drown. In fact forget suicide this has even ruined that idea for me. The dialog the acting everything about this speaks misery. I want to just stare into a glass window in an insane asylum after making it this far into the movie. Did they just figure out a way to make a movie that drains your soul. That's how I feel about this garbage.
The comments saying that the movie is great with exclamations points are kind of weird because thats not the vibe of the movie. This is a very good movie though. Pardon my english
Look I respect everyone's opinion and would love to hear why you liked this. To me this movie was like listening to my wife complain and narrate everything that is happening in life. I couldn't wait till it was just over.
It's called a Black Comedy and focuses on the Human Condition
