  • On the 3rd October 2019 I had the pleasure of going down the rabbit hole to Vianney Halter's watchmaking world for a day. It was truly an amazing experience that I will never forget. I had a camera with me, so I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
I'm breaking down the visit to Vianney's Watchmaking Workshop into parts which are going to be released weekly.
This is part five, where Vianney talks his very first pantograph machine that he used to make his first watch, the Antqiua. He also shows some mazing antiques that he has collected, not only clocks that are 500 years old, but also scientific tools that borrowed parts of watchmaking to build tools to advance the sciences.
It's truly amazing to see, and we get more insight into his fascination with antiques, science and art.
Vianney Halter’s amazing philosophies on life and watchmaking. It is truly inspiration to hear and see the watchmaking workshop where Vianney Halter watches we all love are made, the from the Antiqua, Classic, Classic Janvier and the Deep Space Tourbillon.
Vianney in my opinion is the greatest independent watchmaker in the world. With his creations truly unique, like the Antiqua, Classic Janvier, Trio and the most current Deep Space Tourbillon. I discovered watchmaking through him and fell in love with this craft, which set me down my own watchmaking journey.
A huge thank you to Vianney Halter, who was so generous and accepted my request to visit without hesitation.

I think, perhaps, that this is the best series on individual watchmakers I've seen. His attitude is amazing, especially towards his finances, about sharing, can't take it with you after all. And also where he gets his inspiration from, all the beautiful old time machines. I could have listened to a weeks worth of videos in his workshop though, all those lovely, but well used machines, with barely a CNC in sight, and this coming from someone who has used those for all of his life. Anyway, great videos.

PS maybe I missed something, he doesn't seem to have many staff working is he still making watches.?

There were two others in his workshop that weren't in the video. But they were mentioned. He has only 5 staff who seem like they are close almost like a family. But he is definitely still producing watches.
