For anyone that does not understand what happen. The injections were similar to Undyne's injections/augmentation ( when she dies or begins to die she melts), or the injections part of Alphyis' tests that create monsters of out biomass. Since they were prototypes, instead of regenerating their hp or strengthened at all, it converted them into a slime/goo.

OK so a few people are confused by what is going on so I guess I'll explain. But SPOILERS if you haven't seen the true lab at the end of the Pacifist Route. This is also mostly theory from what I have seen floating around.
So this is an AU (alternate universe) known as the Bromalgamate AU in which Sans and Papyrus become an Amalgamation. This happens because Papyrus gets ill and begins to die so Sans takes him to Alphys to get help. But, like with the other patients who were injected with the Determination, their bodies couldn't take it and they began to melt and fuse together into the weird creatures you see in the true lab. In the two different versions I have seen, either Papyrus melts onto Sans and fuses them, or, like in this one Sans injects himself so he would stay with Papyrus. and then the whole thing with Gaster at the end is I guess because he was the one that originally started the determination experiments? That part is a bit foggy but I hope this helped!

Like a cool but scary one is the Gaster Blaster AU where Sans looses control of his powers and turns into a huge bone monster with the Gaster Blaster skull as his head while a funny one is the Mettatale AU where everyone has Mettaton's legs except Mettaton

The cool thing about this alternate universe is that the brothers aren't in pain . In fact they understand each other even better now as the bromalgamate. Sure they have a little difficulty adjusting but ultimatly they end up happier than they were before. And yes there's a happy ending to this.

Actually this artist is one of the creators for this AU and has stated before that its not actually sad because even in this form Sans and Papyrus are just happy being with each other. Eventually in this AU they manage to stabilize themselves and become Comic Papyrus. Whom is a rather happy dude.

See when it comes to six bones in my opinion it's a very interesting disturbing and sad comic idea because because it's already been imply that sans loves his brother very much and would do anything for him. he may not act like it but that's how he feels it's just heartbreaking to see him in such hopelessness just tears you down little by little then you can see the worry in his face he says he's going to help but he knows what he's going to do it won't fix anything but to him it's better than having to suffer being alone without anyone beside him so thinking he's the right he heads over to alphy's and uses the experimental DT from what I remember and he keeps reassuring papyrus it's okay it'll be fine but as a comic later shows he just couldn't bear to be separated from papyrus so he decided to to use the determination shot and fuse the two together because he knows what that mixture will do to them he knows the effects that it causes but he didn't care as long as he is just with his brother till the very end. That is why I like this concept so much

In the game, if you saw the true pacifist route, you'll know that Alphys tried an experiment with monsters that 'fell down' in an attempt to make them better. She injected "determination" into them, which is what ended up creating the Amalgamates you find in the True Lab.
This is basically an AU where Sans and Papyrus (and sometimes also the other monster friends) become Amalgamates, too. The ones I've seen usually go like this comic did, where Papyrus falls down and Sans attempts to help him/goes to Alphys for help. The whole Amalgamate thing in general is pretty sad honestly.. Anyway, hope ya understand it better now, buddy. 👍

The Sixbones au is terrifying. It’s weird how Papyrus is “fallen down” since it refers to the end of a monster’s lifespan. I guess this is where Papyrus has a shorter lifespan compared to others knowing that monsters in-game can get pretty old before actually “falling”. It’s based on how long their magic and soul can support him? But how did Sans consider it his fault?
