Even if you aren't an Aperol Spritz fan, you should try PDT's recipe! Pretty pumped to put together tomorrow's Venetian Spritz video - a little history of the Spritz as well as other traditional alternatives. Stay tuned! - The PDT Cocktail Book: amzn.to/2VElAh3
I'm from Padua near Venice and for us Spritz it's a traditional drink. We're used to make it with Campari instead of Aperol or with Cynar (my favorite version). Cheers from Italy
When Aperol representatives comes to events at my bar they actually teach us a different - much more efficient order: Prosecco - aperol - fill w ice - soda top This way it mixes automatically and serving is both quicker and more consistent . Thx for another great vid Steve!👍🙏
I’m From Padova, the italian city where spritz originated. You have got to try spritz misto. 30ml aperol, 30ml Campari, 90 ml prosecco and just a little bit of soda
Love that you're tasting and giving feedback. Especially liked this episode where you made two different variations. As a non bitter lover I like that you're explaining which one you think we'll like and why. I would love to hear your personal favorite tho. I know that it's not always easy to pick a favorite and that if often depends on the mood, seemed like the case between these two ;)
"For what mood you are in" . Yes you're right. Bad mood 😠 the bittersweet. Good mood 😀 the sweet. My mother in law would drink a extra bitter one all the time.
My first Aperol Spritz...Ever! I tried one without the orange juice, one with. OMG! both absolutely delicious but my favorite, with the orange juice. Thank you so much for the recipe!❤
I am Italian and my favorite Aperol spritz is made with: 2 parts of aperol 3 parts of Franciacorta brut (an italian prosecco) 1part of seltz water For Campari spritz i prefer using 5 parts Franciacorta brut 2 parts Campari 1 part seltz
Had Aperol Spritz for the New Year and I must admit, it was really tasty! I prefer bitterness over sweetness so these are perfect)) Happy New Year everybody!
Steve, thank you for providing us free, fun, and informative content. We all appreciate your care for cocktails, and, of course, that million-dollar smile. My only suggestion would be to do about ten videos a day because we love your videos so much. Be well!
This is perfect timing. I was just on vacation and tried getting my family to enjoy a Negroni. Epic fail. My mom told me that when she was in Italy she couldnt get into Aperol. When I go back I'll bring the PDT version with me and I'll win them over.
So good - but all my last trips visiting family in Italy, they used San Pellegrino blood orange soda instead of soda water and it's AMAAAAAAZING. Try it!
My local alcohol shop can confirm they love your vids! Or more accurately, they love the amount of spirits and liqueurs I've bought from them since discovering your channel :)
Yes, you definitely can make a Campari Spritz. Just know that Campari is 30% alcohol vs 15 for Aperol, and the cocktail will be a bit stronger. It seems Steve's video tomorrow will precisely be about those other versions of the Spritz, with a different base alcohol
Hi @stevethebartender The dryness in the 3-2-1 recipe comes from the prosecco, not from the Aperol. Try Aperol pure and you'll notice it's actually really sweet. If you like a bit more bitterness, add Campari to the mix. Your second recipe is not sweeter because of the orange squeeze but because you used more Aperol.
my favorite is 1 part Aperol, 1 part Campari,3 part prosecco and a splash of soda.Garnish with orange slice. I usually rub my glass with orange peel at the beginning
Nice! I've been making it 1 Aperol 4 Prosecco and a squeeze of orange juice. just because I haven't a use for the last 50ml from the small Prosecco bottle :) I will try with 2 Aperol tough
I substitute the soda water for a lemon lime soda for the extra sweetness/flavor and to me it's a bit better. I'm not big on sweet drinks, but this is a summer drink, so it gets a pass.
Hey Steve, you should change the way to make the Aperol or Campari spritz. First, in the glass with ice , you HAVE TO pour the prosecco and after Aperol/Campari soda , why ? Because of the physical law the alcohol is heavier than sparkling wine... I can't wait to see you here in Italy😀
I believe the order makes a difference and the prosecco should go in the glass first, then the Aperol, which is how it it shows on the label. I do like to start with a maraschino cherry on the bottom.
I have always added the Aperol after the Prosecco. That seems to mix the drink better because the Aperol is more dense than Prosecco and it flows to the bottom of the glass. If you add Aperol first it will stay on the bottom and you have to stir.
I notice in many American bars they serve Aperol spritz very cloudy and full of ice while in Europe it’s served with less ice and it’s clearly see through and carbonated
Steve you're a legend. Fun fact if you have lined wine glasses after 60 ml of Aperol just fill prosecco to the 150ml line for a perfect 90ml then add ice and a splash of soda for the 3:2:1 recipe
I think the prosecco causes most of the kind of bitter flavour. I tried one with only more aperol before and it was less bitter and more sweeter. I like it more.
Avid Aperol Spritz drinker here. I might try that squeeze of orange in the traditional recipe. I’ve tried a heavier Aperol:Prosecco ratio and didn’t care for it - the heavier mouthfeel from more of the liqueur is just not what I’m looking for from a summer drink.
I prefer the way they do it in Naples, quite alcoholic but with enough sweetness to round out the bitter flavor. Not sure how they do it but i do believe they put orange juice in. It can be quite a nice palate cleanser too when eating very savory italian food
Nice video. Interesting variation with the orange juice. Could you please make a video about different summer, refreshing cocktails, that are just easy to prepare as the Aperol Spritz? Thanks!
Check out this cocktail I came up with. 1 cup aperol, 2 cups pear or apple cider and ice. The aperol counteracts the sugary sweetness and acidity of cider. Poor man's aperol sprizz. Super refreshing.
I noticed that stirring the original recipe opens up the flavors, where without stirring makes it basically drinking Prosecco at first. I might try reverse loading it to see if that does the trick, keeping it more carbonated.
Yeah, same with my bottle - i edited me mentioning it out as it would have caused confusion the way I talked about it.. They have always marketing the “it’s easy as 3-2-1” on their bottle and within their marketing until recently..
THANK UUUU!!! I bought a bottle of Aperol last week, but did not like the taste of the original version of Aperol spritz, I hope you like your version. Are there other drinks with Aperol in ?? I need asap
I use it for the Negroni. People might shame me for it since it calls for Campari, but I think it tastes great (and I don't have to buy Campari separately 😉)
Great Video. Probably would of been nice to give viewers a basic rundown on what an aperitif is so viewers can understand WHY the 3-2-1 is bitter and therefore when the 3-2-1 version might be preferable (like before a meal).
I find that Aperol is more sweet than bitter. I like it, even though I have a bitter-averse palate (to the point that I don't like beer). Maybe dryness of the Prosecco makes the Prosecco's bitterness come out. I would argue that the main reason for the PDT version being less bitter is that there's less Prosecco
Great video! Didnt think to actually squeeze orange into a spritz but it makes sense. Can you please do a video on the Charlie Chaplin (sloe gin) cocktail? Finding it hard to get the ratios right so it's not sickly sweet
Campari is stronger and more bitter, but you can make spritz with campari. Many people in italy (me included) prefer the campari spritz as its less sweet
I wonder how many people were planning on unsubscribing but changed their mind since Steve said stick around for tomorrow's video. JK, can't wait to see it if you're so excited about it.

Thanks Giorgio! I’ll definitely be including both of them in my next video 🙌
I’ve been to PDT once and sat at the bar. It was like watching a magic show. I need to go again.
Great suggestion on the PDT Cocktail Book version - a great twist

Thx for another great vid Steve!👍🙏
But actually makes it more layered as well, that’s what I was teached as was wel!
Thanks!
Thank you! 🙏
Number 1 for me, all day. It's my go-to all summer long and whenever I fly to Europe it's a must-have when sitting outdoors, "people-watching" :)
Ditto!
Just the perfect summer drink for any occasion!!!
The PDT Aperol Spritz was a crowd pleaser at our Christmas party!
Thanks for sharing
I’m From Padova, the italian city where spritz originated. You have got to try spritz misto. 30ml aperol, 30ml Campari, 90 ml prosecco and just a little bit of soda
Yes,
that's the best Spritz you can drink👍🆗

Great version of the sprits for something different, thanks for sharing.
I like them both

Thank you so much for the recipe!❤
We had it in Paros, Greece. Loved it.
I am Italian and my favorite Aperol spritz is made with:
2 parts of aperol
3 parts of Franciacorta brut (an italian prosecco)
1part of seltz water
For Campari spritz i prefer using
5 parts Franciacorta brut
2 parts Campari
1 part seltz
Tommaso Lembo Looks like a great recipe !
Franciacorta metodo classico, prosecco metodo charmat
An Aperol Spritz is a wonderful thing to drink in hot weather. Loved drinking them when I was in Venice a few summers ago.
AMAZING RECIPE! I am Italian American and grew up with this amazing cocktail. I 💗 your videos mate!
Had Aperol Spritz for the New Year and I must admit, it was really tasty! I prefer bitterness over sweetness so these are perfect)) Happy New Year everybody!
I did a mix of both recipes and it was terrific
Steve, thank you for providing us free, fun, and informative content. We all appreciate your care for cocktails, and, of course, that million-dollar smile. My only suggestion would be to do about ten videos a day because we love your videos so much. Be well!
I legit bought aerial last night! Can’t wait, the weekend starts today after work!
You should save it for the next wedding you're invited to, it will be great for the reception!
This is perfect timing. I was just on vacation and tried getting my family to enjoy a Negroni. Epic fail. My mom told me that when she was in Italy she couldnt get into Aperol. When I go back I'll bring the PDT version with me and I'll win them over.
You talk about Negroni and Aperol but for Negroni you actually use Campari... Not Aperol...
Great as always
Wonderful. So Good Spriz. 👍🐷😋👍👍👏

Great episode mate 👌🏼
My local alcohol shop can confirm they love your vids! Or more accurately, they love the amount of spirits and liqueurs I've bought from them since discovering your channel :)
Hahaha I have had a few people blaming me for the increase in their alcohol budget..
The rocks Aperol Spritz was delicious! Far better than the traditional wine glass version. Thank you for the recipe!
Aperol Spritz is symply the best cocktail in the world. Thanks for the additional recipe!
Can you use Campari?
Yes, you definitely can make a Campari Spritz. Just know that Campari is 30% alcohol vs 15 for Aperol, and the cocktail will be a bit stronger.
It seems Steve's video tomorrow will precisely be about those other versions of the Spritz, with a different base alcohol
No one can argue with you.
Finally introducing myself to the Aperol Spritz this year, this video very welcome in the process, thank you Steve!
Hi @stevethebartender
The dryness in the 3-2-1 recipe comes from the prosecco, not from the Aperol. Try Aperol pure and you'll notice it's actually really sweet. If you like a bit more bitterness, add Campari to the mix. Your second recipe is not sweeter because of the orange squeeze but because you used more Aperol.
That's an interesting point. Basically and "Aperol Americano" but a great way to tailor to your guest's palate
Gotta love a good Aperol Spritz. Great comparison video!
I had one in a restaurant and they served it with Aperol, Campari and Prosecco, it was very nice.
my favorite is 1 part Aperol, 1 part Campari,3 part prosecco and a splash of soda.Garnish with orange slice. I usually rub my glass with orange peel at the beginning
Thank you Steve, I made one of these. And it was good. However I think I like your PDT version.
I love adding orange to the first version just a squeeze of feeds juice
I have to say, that i learned alot from your'e Videos since i Subscribed.
You like an Idol for me👏🏾
So thank you🙏🏾

Fan of the both version of them

How is it possible not to love Aperol Spritz!) It is a symbol of summer) ahhhh wanna)
:(( sorry
Would love to see you do a Limoncello spritz recipe.
I believe the order makes a difference and the prosecco should go in the glass first, then the Aperol, which is how it it shows on the label. I do like to start with a maraschino cherry on the bottom.
If you make them side by side, I doubt anyone would tell the difference unless you specifically tried to layer them...
The aperol Spritz is my favorite summer's drink.
I have always added the Aperol after the Prosecco. That seems to mix the drink better because the Aperol is more dense than Prosecco and it flows to the bottom of the glass. If you add Aperol first it will stay on the bottom and you have to stir.
it mixes better with syrup first for most all mixed drinks
It's a preference thing mate the drink will always mix at the end....
In Italy we have a version with Cinar added. But that version it’s way heavier then just with Aperol.
I love the spritz with Cynar!! I filmed it a while ago: ruclips.net/video/1VVarviKbEc/видео.html
One of the coolest color of any drink I ever seen. (Blue Hawaiian is weird for me)
I thought your guestimations were pretty off but either way I’m sure they were delish.
Love aperol. Sometimes even have it over ice
Was Just about to say that. The stuff is awesome. Try a few dashes of angostura bitters to give it more dimension 😉
I notice in many American bars they serve Aperol spritz very cloudy and full of ice while in Europe it’s served with less ice and it’s clearly see through and carbonated
Love the channel. Watch every new video. 😊

I think the prosecco causes most of the kind of bitter flavour. I tried one with only more aperol before and it was less bitter and more sweeter. I like it more.
Try Verdi Spumante instead of Prosecco - You're welcome!
I make a version with Gin, which is also lovely, and a bit stronger. I skip the soda and just use Aperol, Gin and Prosecco. Yummy!
@SK ONTHEROAD sounds good - what ratio aperol/gin/Prosecco ?
I prefer the way they do it in Naples, quite alcoholic but with enough sweetness to round out the bitter flavor. Not sure how they do it but i do believe they put orange juice in. It can be quite a nice palate cleanser too when eating very savory italian food
Gonna try the orange squeeze one. Still have half a bottle of aperol. Not usually a big fan but if orange balances it out, then im in.
Home Bar Hero here! Looks great Steve! I’ve gotta try this!
New to your channel and just noticed the Jamaican rum in the back! So proud right now.#Jwray&Nephew
He got me that way too! Big ah yard, big abroad! 😜
Nice video. Interesting variation with the orange juice. Could you please make a video about different summer, refreshing cocktails, that are just easy to prepare as the Aperol Spritz? Thanks!
I loved in Europe when everybody was drinking these!
Check out this cocktail I came up with.
1 cup aperol, 2 cups pear or apple cider and ice. The aperol counteracts the sugary sweetness and acidity of cider. Poor man's aperol sprizz. Super refreshing.
I like Aperol Spritz with fresh pressed orange juice.
Salud🍻from mexico
I always add a little bit of orange juice to my aperol spritz. It just tastes better for me personally.
It works well 🙌
That splash of orange juice sounds so good! I've been dying to get the PDT cocktail book.
I noticed that stirring the original recipe opens up the flavors, where without stirring makes it basically drinking Prosecco at first. I might try reverse loading it to see if that does the trick, keeping it more carbonated.
Just a gentle stir to mix the ingredients is ideal..
Thanks, Steve The Bartender!
Thanks to your channel I know enough cocktail jargon to freak out my family (I'm underage) 😂
My bottle of Aperol suggests equal parts Aperol and Prosecco. Add soda water and icecubes (no amounts listed).
Yeah, same with my bottle - i edited me mentioning it out as it would have caused confusion the way I talked about it.. They have always marketing the “it’s easy as 3-2-1” on their bottle and within their marketing until recently..
Hmm might try the ptd version. I prefer campari in spritz I make. Also like the traditional (I was told) vermouth (not low end ) with soda. Yum 😋
great video! are there any tiki cocktails with Aperol that you can show us?
My favourite drink 🍸
THANK UUUU!!! I bought a bottle of Aperol last week, but did not like the taste of the original version of Aperol spritz, I hope you like your version. Are there other drinks with Aperol in ?? I need asap

Paper Plane. Bourbon, Amaro Nonino, and Aperol.
I quite like 3,2,1 with a dash of orange juice
Greetings from Italy 😄

I learned that to get the Aperol Spritz layered you need to start with prosseco and Aperol Spritz afterwards?
Great Video. Probably would of been nice to give viewers a basic rundown on what an aperitif is so viewers can understand WHY the 3-2-1 is bitter and therefore when the 3-2-1 version might be preferable (like before a meal).
I make my americanos with aperol and its the bomb
I find that Aperol is more sweet than bitter. I like it, even though I have a bitter-averse palate (to the point that I don't like beer). Maybe dryness of the Prosecco makes the Prosecco's bitterness come out. I would argue that the main reason for the PDT version being less bitter is that there's less Prosecco
1:42 orange juice
Hi steve!
the most important factor for me is the prosecco/cava that is used. for me, it has to be dry and not sweet sparkling wine to compliment the Aperol
Try out the Aperol Touch
50ml Aperol
25ml passion pure
40ml orange juice
Shake
And top it up with prosecco
To the second recipe ( the one with fresh orange juice ) you may add one ounce of good Gin and the cocktail becomes even better. Salud!
That sounds like a great addition, especially with a good citrus forward gin
How do I share the pics..I followed some of your recipes..
MY MAN
hey steve, how do you make your ice?
Where did your smile go, Steve the Bartender? You're still doing a great job. I haven't been watching anything for a bit, so I hope all is well!
Not sure, must have been concentrating too hard 😁
I've never had Aperol, would you describe it as more or less bitter than grapefruit juice? Or could you compare it to quinine in terms of bitterness?
Hmmm.. maybe on par with grapefruit juice... if you don’t mind the juice then you’ll enjoy a Spritz!
@@StevetheBartender_ Thanks for the quick response! I'll pick some up shortly.
Looking at the comments bellow, seems like everybody seems to make the Aperol Spritz differently. Nonetheless great video Steve!
Great video! Didnt think to actually squeeze orange into a spritz but it makes sense.
Can you please do a video on the Charlie Chaplin (sloe gin) cocktail? Finding it hard to get the ratios right so it's not sickly sweet

Is Aperol and Campari similar?
Campari is stronger and more bitter, but you can make spritz with campari. Many people in italy (me included) prefer the campari spritz as its less sweet
giovanni fiorini thanks for the info I’m gonna have to try it. I just bought a bottle of Campari and I’m trying to find ways to use it
You're welcome! Try the negroni and the boulevardier too, great campari cocktails
Try the Enzoni!
And the Jungle Bird!
Nice :)
Try this new stuff "Faccia Brutto Spirits" outta Brooklyn. Straight fire.
Do you make your own ice?
I have a Hoshizaki ice machine.
@@StevetheBartender_ Oh wow those are nice. Way out of my budget though. Know of anything smaller and not designed for restaraunts/bars?

Love an Aperol Spritz, this 2nd option may be more up my wifes alley
