This is a very good advertisement for the Poor Clares. The sisters behaved in a non judgemental manner and were full of unconditional love. I hope their vocations have boomed since this series.
It's lovely to encounter this series again. It's wonderful to be reminded to be still before God. Vocations are precious things, the simplicity and quietness, listening to God, communion with Christ. The obedience, community and unity, keeping the silence, are soul nourishing. Thank you Poor Clare's for being open to this.

Victoria is very immature. She doesn't want to take on adult responsibilities and so acts like a petulant child. But the point is she is not a child, everyone is there of their own free will. She should be respecting and honoring the home of the nuns, it's not a boarding school. They are being extremely kind and patient with her, which are all fruits of the Holy Spirit. It seems like she grew up without any structure and is now angry at the work she must do to grow up.
This is painful to watch. If one thinks a religious calling and life are alien, one should still show respect. At the end of the day if they can’t abide by the integral rules then they should leave. Vic is a complete nightmare and is spoiling Angela’s experience. I suppose it makes for good television but there are hundreds of women who would love to have that journey. I have met two of these Arundel nuns and they are truly inspiring. In a world full of Kardashian’s it is wonderful to witness real women of value.

Our whole modern world is opposed to a self disciplined way of life. The only discipline we accept is that of the work place or the school. Even them only because we suppose that we have to. Faith without discipline is meaningless. Discipline without faith is hollow. Discipline=Discipleship. This documentary is really insightful, I’m really really interested in visiting this convent, It seems like hearing what the visiting guests go through reveals a lot about the process to Religious life, and I didn’t want to watch these documentaries for some time, but I’m glad I finally got about seeing them, and it’s making me wanting to know - more . I love this because to me it points out the self-centeredness of Protestant worship (its all about me and my self-expression) and how God and Christ-centered the nuns are... and how most Catholic Mass is.... although they do seem to be changing to be more like protestants and moving away from what I have always understood as Catholic tradition....
lambchopxoxo I hear what you are saying. Don't forget Iona is a young women with a lot of energy. I think she will learn to calm down and mature in time, X
I am an atheist and I think religion is manipulative garbage. BUT, if you commit to joining these nuns, who are incredible civil and nice about them ignoring the rules, and commit to join their life style for 40 days, you have an obligation to NOT be immature and you have an obligation to follow the rules. If you can't do that you have to leave and give your spot to someone more worthy.
I was thinking the same thing! I'm an athiest too but my personality and love of routine would fit right in with the nuns - I also couldn't bare the thought of agreeing to something and then being disrespectful.
I can relate to Debbie, I get rather anxious like that. My anxiety sometimes makes me reluctant to go to church sometimes. I can also relate a bit to Victoria because I can get impatient with life sometimes... well, all the time actually.
did they ever do a re visit of the convent? in the mens version the monastery it was nice to see wot the men did 18 months later. wonder wot became of the ladies.
I can kind of understand where the aithiest comes from. But I also understand the poor Claire too. This is because I feel that their practice is how a truly devoted wife of Christ ought to live. Life does not come as a joyous game. It is a chance to learn, strengthen your relationship with Jesus God and Mary, learn a new coping skill, and find your true calling. Today I lost my living husband. But in a year's time I will also be a bride of Christ.
I think convents should do this more once a year. A lot of girls need help with all the stuff going on in the world. Gives a lot of help and support with healing and therapy.😇❤️👍🆒🗿
Wait, so it would’ve been too disruptive for Victoria to attend the funeral but having a dirty weekend away with her husband and THEIR 3rd ‘party’ wouldn’t be?? I can’t believe the nuns would be so naive as to think the 3 of them were going strawberry picking for the weekend. Very confusing decision tbh.
How anyone could have the confidence/audacity to be themselves without any awareness or respect of the beliefs of others is beyond my understanding or acceptance.
I've just finished watching episode 2, and I've no idea how this all turns out for any of the four women involved but I like Angela. She seems to me to be honest and trying to make the most of the time she is spending in the convent. I'm very interested to see how it turns out for her.
How terribly rude it is, when in someone else's home, to be doing one's "own thing." It's nothing to do with one's values, it's just plain bad manners.
Angela and Vic are a nightmare and so annoying. Totally disrespecting the rules. I was fuming when they were messing about with the mobility scooters very childish and rude.
Vic REALLY annoys me. She is lucky she has TWO men who love and want her and a husband who will tolerate sharing his wife. She is selfish and vile....Commit all love to your husband....Putting it about everywhere....
I thought in the end she showed real guts actually. It takes courage to go away and reflect on your life and recognise where you've gone wrong and admit it. Because now she's admitted it she has to make painful changes to her life. It does sound a little like there is jealousy of her which is driving these comments from women.
Her behaviour and attitudes come across as self-indulgent, without boundaries and careless of other people's needs and feelings. But I suspect there's other stuff going on in that triage. Plus, anyway, all this 'free spirit' palaver is usually fraught with all sorts of hidden difficulties and a fair number of exploitative people.
It's like they've gone from one extreme to another. I know I couldn't live there, following the rules of quiet, and nothing but prayer. There is no need to have to be so extreme. I'd last a few hours.
Just now watching episode 2 and noticed people stating there is no episode 4, please tell me that episode exists so we can see the conclusion. Has it been found?
These women are very fortunate to have the chance to look at their lives, and to seek God. Personally! I think the nuns should be more open about saving their souls, and discussing the 10 Commandements, AND opening up more about Heaven and Hell. Yes! They are understanding, sympathetic and loving, BUT! Really! Is this going save them from hell? No! They are not visiting some clinic, but they should be seeking God to be more holy, obedient and genuinely faithful to the word of God. Again! I think the nuns should have been slightly more stricter. God IS mercy and love, and HE expects us all to live accordingly to HIS words.
They had six weeks. Rather than preach at someone it is better to love them and show them by your life of prayer how the love of God transforms someone. The Holy Spirit does the conversion not us. Many people in a post-modern, post-Christian culture will recoil from being preached at. However if you enter into a genuine friendship of equals, sharing your experience and loving each other in all our brokenness, the gentle love of God can enter. The visitors were at all the community prayer times and would have been reading, singing and chanting from the bible all day (and night). You may be unfamiliar with Catholic spirituality.
