So proud to see this video. So proud to be Hawaiian.
I'm in tears....humanity loves to move forward so fast....we must have missed so many other stories....WTF. Hawaiians are the Kings of the Pacific.....not a single child born today will ever know of the adventures that humans are capable of....AI crap n phones....blah blah blah....garbage. I wish I could have what they did in the days gone...these are amazing young men....now as a man in today's society I'm just a Puppet.
Rest in peace you amazing warriors of the oceans!
Wow!
INDEPENDENCE FOR HAWAII!!!
What a compelling story! It amazes me how the US could use native Hawaiian students, and mostly non white students to go into a dangerous situation, and on top of that, give them the bare minimum to survive on. You would think the US would come get these kids, but they just left these kids to fend for themselves. I feel for them to have to lose friends and see some of them killed! The USA basically employed high schoolers, and young adults to do a mission they should have had adults to do. It feels like they used these kids as human shields. And it hurts to know this as a person of native Hawaiian ancestry. It was a mission that had so many odds stacked against it, but these boys made it work and they were resilient! They were more men, and had more balls than any of those military guys who recruited them and abandoned them on those islands! They have my utmost respect and honor!
well said...💔 ...
well said!
Are we surprised of the “Tyranical American Government” to do any less than that???
Incredible story
Never knew! Thank you so much for making this documentary. The outrageous irony of the colonial steal of our islands … who then named these young innocent Hawaiian men “colonialist” brings a blend of anger upon so much grief. What a huge dirty secret. However, these young Hawaiian men will forever make Hawai’i deeply proud. Many Blessings to each and all, as well as their families.
The US government has a long history of exploitation of native peoples and wrapping it with a blanket of secrecy then never acknowledging the contribution of the participants’. I am deeply moved by their story and Creator seems to always have a plan to reveal what is hidden and bring it to the light. Many blessings on their families their communities and all the Hawaiian people.

Very moving and i am glad their experience was shared and some recognition was given to them for their service
To the young men who made the journey, thank you for your service.
Wow, amazing history that many In Hawaii never knew much about until this video was available on RUclips. I'm glad that they are now recognized and honored.
Leads me to believe if not for the actions of “Hui Panala’au” this tragic part of His-Story would be buried to hide the Truths about the American Government, are we surprised???
Just WOW!! It makes me so proud to know that Hawaiians are as resilient as they are!! True way farers and setting an example for the modern generation to persevere through the times we currently live in. Imua E Na Kanaka Maoli
It’s the way of the “Indigenous Peoples” we know how to live in harmony with nature cause we respect & perpetuate nature and the sole Creator Akua.
Awesome events. This is the first time I've heard this story. This is what being a real man is about. I wonder if any of today's young men would be able to do the same. I wonder if I could.
Yes! The water men of today, the surfers and fishermen are still doing those things. Two white Americans on Maui, and an Australian took a 99 year lease on Namotu in Fiji. It is probably a five acre island. It is surrounded by great surf breaks. I spent a month there. Best time of my life. They planted trees and plants, they built huts, they bring over water and food, they fish most days, and surf. Another water man from Maui and California established a self sufficient surf camp in Java. It is a long tradition of traveling the planet to find perfect waves with no one else on them.
Wow! Came across this by accident at 2am here in California. Couldn't stop watching it. Young Hawaiian watermen who served their country so selflessly. Thank you for your service to our country at such a critical time in history. Hope the recognition of their service continues to grow. Such a remarkable historic story that needs to be shared. Thanks so much for posting. 🤙🤙🌊😎
No Treaty of Annexation . FreeHawaii
What a great story, almost lost in the mists of time. The families of these men can be so proud of what they accomplished. A unique and amazing experience. They were chosen for their uniquely qualified skills in Island survival, and they performed so well. Just like the WWII 442nd Infantry regiment, the most decorated in U.S. military history, composed of second-generation American soldiers of Japanese ancestry, they deserve to be honored and remembered.
Beautiful Peoples!
Wow just Amazing …mahalo for sharing these documentaries and stories of the unknown. These types of stories need to be known and recognized. 🙏🏽🤙🏽
Never knew of this. Really moving and sad their work, effort and the loss of lives of a few men went nearly unknown.
You guys are great. Proud to be kamaaina
Just another of many reasons why I am so proud to be Hawaiian.
I never knew about this and I'm sure many others in Hawaii didn't either. Very emotional story, pride, sadness, and frustration that it took so long for these young men to be recognized for what they did and went through. So many hidden stories of U.S. history that are coming to light now makes me wonder why they have been kept secret for so long.
My friend was sent. It was wasn't voluntary for him. Those boys had no support.
We are ko pae aina. Hawaiian is a nationality. None of our words in Olelo Hawaii end with a consonant. The US continues to use a narrative that is false. FreeHawaii
Amen
So sad prayers for them and the families regardless of how many years ago it was .😢
Amazing. Fascinating.
This info should be out up at the Memorial on Oahu... it wasn't when I was in the AF.
It was illegal for the US to use a Nuetral Nation State as fodder in that war. FreeHawaii
Incredible story.
Coercion that’s exactly what that is sounds like we need some generational restitution pay out
What an amazing documentary.
I am moved beyond words.
Ignoring the politics and imperialism background behind the story is difficult
but I mohave lots of respect for the boys on the Island.
All the boys should have had homes and property given to them by the government for having started the colony.
Chicken Skin as da Hawaiian boys show so much Aloha..
MAHALO HAWAIIAN HEROS!❤MALAMA PONO FOR THESE OHANAS!❤
❤the healing will always be questionable. My heart goes out to them all but especially the fallen. For what? How come? Why?😢
Aloooohaa nui loa...........
Why did we ever serve, and bleed and die? I can't answer, because we were always expendable and undeserving of one cent or honor.
Mahalo Choke fo tawk story
My heart is full of sadness for the young Hawaiian men. Having been posted to islands that were not habitantable. Intellectual young men. As a means too gain. Insulting Hawaiian culture yet again. Arohamai mamae taku ngakau. My heart is in pain.
Wow rip
I suppose Washington looked on the project of some significance that was perhaps never felt in Hawaii.
I seen this documentary for free on a flight on Hawaiian Airlines a while back.
Abraham Piianaia did mention his colonization experience when I took a geography class he taught at the University of Hawaii in the mid 60’s.
It's very weird I'm having a technical issue with your video. The screen is black as the video please but if I move the Little Red Dot to advance the film at the bottom in the little mini window I can see the pictures of your video. Unfortunately as I'm playing it the little PBS logo shows up in the bottom-right corner but the screen is completely black. It only happened with this video I've never had this happen before and I went to play other videos and it's not happening to them today. I'm not sure why the film when I stand early Play the movie is solidly black and if I touch the Red Dot to advance the timeline I can see the pictures I'm supposed to be watching. Very strange
No DOI. FreeHawaii
They took these youngsters when my mom was born. Natives were used as shields😢😢😢
I read about this on wikipedia
could we have full lyrics to the song and perhaps any reference to someone singing the whole song?
Thank You.
Remarkable, but perhaps Hawai natives can tolerate it better than Mainland people
They got along because there were no women to compete for.
Cool experiance.
❤#819 🤙🏽
❤Makes me wonder was this purposeful. What was the final reasoning? Notice they don’t ask wahine to do this. They would never have succumbed😊😊
😊hi
Hi
high school students?
Singing like that i doubt any ship is going to let you book passage. Colonizing with just men? What's up with that? Unbelievable.
I like the story of these men ans respect that. But its still another "America craps on its citizens of Hawaii" story. We were never considered real citizens. Just useful "technically" citizens 😐 RIP my Hawaiians.
Israel is doing today to Palestinians.
And Hamas?No problem?Not even close.
Read the Written word of God History of Gaza , or Azor is written of in Zephaniah and other books , AN historical document of A land God designated . ❤
You would think more attention would be placed on sun exposure. Hard to understand the need to do this. I was thinking Nuclear testing at first. Great Film!
