as a former guitarist, who played this piece many decades alone to a point, where i could no more read without playing it on auto, i must applaud beautiful prolonged tone.
Thank you, Gergely! You play with great emotion, I felt it instantly. This is really the way this beautiful music needs to sound. Also amazing how full this little ukulele sounds!
Hi Gergely, I think that was fabulous!! And to think that just 20 to 30 years ago, the ukulele was seen as just a toy.. :/. It's amazing what you can do with 4 strings! Bravo! :) 🧡
Thanks a lot! Ukulele is a great instrument many musician play much more amazing things on it! :D It is might seen asa toy by some people but it's definitely a versatile and great instrument and it can take a lot to master it, just like with any other instruments. :)
Wow amazing, i started playing the ukeleu last Sept 2020, but love chord melody, my passion is the classical side, iam retired so have just started to try to learn this classical piece. Its really hard but a good challenge.
Thanks Thelma! It's a great piece, and not too difficult on the ukulele. I think classical music sounds very good on ukulele, especially baroque music. The instrument has a similar feel as the period instruments. Although a true baroque musician probably wouldn't like this statement... :D
Hi Thelma, how are you progressing on this piece? I too am working on it. Seriously I believe it will take me years to be able to play it even slowly. I am making progress though.
@@wendym2544 Hello Wendy Prelude no1 , by J.S.Bach Arrange by T.E.Preece I was once told, play it at your own pace, an feeling, if they say its played at 84 beats you might play at 80 , i think Bach played it how he wanted too. Enjoy
Thanks a lot! It is actually not an expensive ukulele, it's an Ortega. But I also think it sounds very good, when I was trying different ones in the shop this sounded better than some other more expensive ones. So maybe I was just lucky to find one which turned out better, it sometimes happens :) I did experiment with different sets and combinations of strings though, that counts a lot too.
@@GBandi You're so right about some being better than others. I play Kala tenor uke. It cost quite a lot more than the Brunswick I learned on, but I'm not convinced it sounds £300 better! Which strings are you using now?
@@startingfingerstyle on this recording I use a combination of Aquila nylgut and supernylgut. So it's the mix of the 2 sets, because that's how it sounded the best and also kept a fairly good intonation in the higher positions (still not perfect though). But I don't use a mix of 2 sets normally, I just really wanted this recording to sound good :) I want to try the fluorocarbon strings next, because I've heard good things about them. However I'm not a fan of carbon strings on the classical guitar, but I will see :) I also want to buy a better ukulele, but here in Budapest the possibilities are limited. I could order of course, but I don't like to buy instruments without trying and playing them, so I'd rather just wait for the perfect possibility :)
@@GBandi Thank you. Never saw this reply. If ones puts a low G string (that's what you mean right?) on their uk........does it affect anything besides the way it sounds. Do you play songs/notes any differently? Hope this makes sense. What kind of Ukulele are you playing? (if you can be specific on model # that would be great.) Thanks!
@@wendym2544 Yes, you can buy 'low G" ukulele string sets, for soprano and concert models too. Aquila for example has different types. It doesn't affect anything, if you are playing the melody on the top 3 strings anyway. If you use the G string in melodies (when it makes sense), then it won't work of course. If you are playing chords, everything stays the same, it will just sound a bit more like a small guitar :) however it looses a bit its typical 'Hawaiian' sound, what one has in mind when thinking of ukulele :) This instrument is an Ortega RU5. Quite cheap model, but it sounds surprisingly good, or maybe I was just lucky with this specific model.. However the intonation in the higher positions is not always perfect. But if you are using it for chords, I think it's a good choice, has a nice warm sound.

Thank you! Yes the lowest string is a low G. I am originally a classical guitarist, not too accomplished, but trying my best. :) But it actually wasn't difficult to change to the ukulele from the guitar, that's true. :)
I can't stop coming back to this video because it is simply one of the most beautifully played. A pure delight ! Can I ask you if you are playing in campanella style ? I could not figure out from looking at your fingers, lol. It doesn't seem so to me, but the sound is so good that I can be mistaken.
oh wow thank you! I am trying to play campanella wherever I can, but of course it's not always possible, also because this ukulele is with a low G, so not in re-entrant tuning. But you can check the scores or tabs for free, check the link in the description! :)

Bach on the ukulele, simply beautiful!
thank you very much!
This really demonstrates how versatile the ukulele can be :)
You have lovely legato on that little instrument! Truly a pleasure to hear this so cleanly and sensitively played.
Thank you very much!
This little uke is the only touch of color in the setting, making it the focal point, graphic-wise as it is sound-wise... Lovely !
thank you! I actually didn't think of that... :D
From all the musicians I personally know, you are the only one I frequently find myself binge-listening to.

Is this a tenor.. so to play this one needs a low G?
This is a concert ukulele (so the same tuning as a sopran), but with a low G string. So yes, it can also be played on a tenor:)
