  • During the restoration of this 1963 Jaguar e type 3.8 XKE coupe, we did a few mods. Did I ruin it? Or is this the perfect e type spec? Let me know what you think.
    This nut and bolt restoration was completed around 2013. Find out if I'm still happy with the specification I decided upon.
    The e type is the car that Enzo Ferrari called the most beautiful car in the world. The sound of the XK 3.8 straight six engine is just perfect. Such a smooth revving straight 6.

      I don't have an E-Type but I do have an F-Type, a 3.0 S manual transmission coupe. It too awaits spring and all the salt washing off the New Hampshire roads. I've been sniffing after XJ6's, was hot for a 1986 VDP, virtually perfect low miles, then the later 2006 ones. Those in VDP guise are seductive and quite reasonably priced.

    Well , you've impressed me enough to subscribe . I did see your first contribution. And more importantly l know the're going to be an occasional treat ! You chose a Bentley colour but Jaguar Opalescent Dark Blue is pretty damn close . Father had a '65 3.4 mk2 MOD in that colour ....beautiful ! My Uncle Arthur ordered his drophead in 1961 but didn't get it until 1962 . His was the first in S.W. England . As a 9 year old l remember he took me out for a short drive . We lived in Kingskerswell in Devon and he took me to the Penquin lnn . I perched stood on the seat holding onto the windscreen as he touched 80 mph !!! The 4.2 was introduced in late 1964 . My '66 2+2 has a XJ6 MOD zo technically it's a 6 speed . One last tale .... Father let my bro' drive his mk 2 (moss box) so off we went . We hurtled from Shaldon to Newton Abbot and got to the traffic light's at the Penquin lnn (!) There was an old couple in the Morris 1100 next to us. My bro' was giving the engine plenty and selected first gear........the lights turned green ....a screech of tyres and off we went ! By the time Norbert had selected second gear the Morris 1100 was a distant speck ......in front ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 oh ! and P.S. I have deep set C.W.W for my car ..had they have been available in 1961 l'm sure Sir William Lyons would have fitted them as standard . Cheers !

    Gorgeous - brings back memories as a car mad 11 year old, when a family friend, who was staying at our hotel in the Isle of Man, took me to watch the TT races in his brand new 1962 E type coupe. Registration OWT 7, Sherwood Green. He had gone to the factory to watch it being built and drove it off the end of the production line. We drove to Creg-ny-Ba to watch the bikes coming down off the mountain - wherever we stopped,the car was mobbed by the spectators. When the race was over, we were first out on the circuit after the roads open car went through. I could barely see over the bonnet, but still remember the crowds still sitting on the hedges lining the circuit cheering as the Jag went by.

    • @sportscarstory
      @sportscarstory  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, I think it would be difficult, because the F type (& the e type) don’t have a separate chassis. The nearest thing you can get to, is buy a Challenger e type. These were kit cars from the 80’s that used XJ mechanics with a plastic moulded from an e type. I had one 20 years ago, & it was pretty good.

      Perhaps, but the original carbs have been pretty good. If I was doing a lot of heavy traffic driving in London , or any other clogged city, I would probably go for fuel injection. Modern fuels can start making carburettor cars misbehave when the engine bay gets hot.
