Thanks for posting this video, one of several on the BMW e30 fuel sending unit. Especially helpful to know about the specific Cr20Ni80 wire used to retrofit the fuel sending unit. With these units in short supply, this is valuable information. RUclips is a useful resource for this type of DIY community learning - thanks to people like you. Cheers.
Hello, thanks you so much for this video, i am close to properly refurbish one for my 318i E21. Unfortunately, the bottom contact of the float was too rusty and the small connector have vanished, i tried to solder something but it is far form ideal because the plastic melts very fast. Any chance you have this little bottom part which the one that gives the contact for empty tank (plastic + contactors). Thanks !
Hello, Thanks for this video. I have a problem with my gauge level it always indicate the level at its lower on the dashboard. However, when the level is low the light signal turning on. Do you think this could be related to the wire? I'am just like if the wire was broken the light will be on all the time isn't it?
Sounds like the wire is fine. Most likely the float is stuck on the bottom position. Go ahead and inspect it using this video as guidance. Good luck! 🙌🏻
Hi Issac, thanks for the explanation. How can I solder the thin wire to each terminal? It seems each terminal has some kind of resin to hold the old wire but that resin doesn't melt to hold the thin cable back. I was using a regular iron soldering tool and soldering tin. Tks
Hello! I would get a 0.5mm thickness copper sheet off eBay (they're cheap) and cut new tabs of the same lenght. Then remove the old tabs and solder the new ones. Hope it helps!
Hi Isaac, Thanks for the feedback. I read you're in Costa Rica. Can you share your email pls? I'd like to talk further with this issue I have. The problem is to solder the thin cable to the hooks. Tks
Glad it could help! I would gladly do it but I'm currently located in Costa Rica and the shipping costs here are insane. For around $5 you can get 10 meters of wire off eBay and that will be more than enough material so you can do it even a second time if for some reason you don't do it right the first time. Trust me, it's a lot simpler than it looks. Good luck!
Hello Isaac -- great video -- I have the sending unit with the feet for the filter. The filter has deteriorated. Is there a place to buy a new filter for the unit or do I need to replace the entire unit ? Have not been able to locate units with the feet, so am hoping can replace the filter. Thanks
Hello, I have a problem, I bought the resistance wire as in the video, but it shows resistance from 0-40ohm, it should be up to 60ohm, what am I doing wrong?
Hi Issac- I have a e21 82 320i, I have split the unit to have found both wires broken, can I send it to you for repair sine you have more experience than I? We can exchange emails if you like. Thank you John

Great tutorial, thanks. This was such an easy fix, can't believe I put it off for so long.
Glad it helped!

Because of you I am able to diagnose my no fuel level issue. I would re solder the wire but I can’t get it anytime soon. Could you possibly fix mine?

@@ryss15 do not worry, as long as you have between 40-60ohm you should be good.
at 40 ohms it shows 1/4 tank, it should show empty, I think I need to buy a wire from another manufacturer

Hello, not likely. Only give wrong fuel level readings.
