【トヨタ博物館】フォード サンダーバード / Ford Thunderbird (1955)

展示車両のほぼすべてを走行可能な「動態保存」としていることは、トヨタ博物館の最大の特徴のひとつです。
館内で上映している走行映像の内、販売用DVDに収録されていないものをRUclipsにて公開いたします。
フォード サンダーバード（1955年）について：
第二次世界大戦後、アメリカでブームを巻き起こしたヨーロッパ製スポーツカーに対抗してGMは「シボレー・コルベット」を投入しました。一方、フォードが開発したのがこちらの「サンダーバード」です。いずれも二人乗りスポーツカーですが、「サンダーバード」はサイドガラスを備え、オプションでV8エンジンも用意し、乗用車的な快適さとスポーティーな高性能をあわせ持ち人気を博しました。屋根は着脱式で、オープンカーとしてもクーペとしても楽しめたモデルです。

Ford Thunderbird (1955):
Seeing the enormous popularity enjoyed by European sports cars in postwar U.S., GM released the Chevrolet Corvette in 1953, but Ford took a different tack in developing the Thunderbird, which was positioned not as a sports car, but as a personal luxury car with a sporty V8 engine as an option. Although the Corvette and the Thunderbird were both 2-seaters, the sedan-like comfort of the latter made it more appealing to consumers. The model in our collection has a removable hardtop, making it possible to use the vehicle both as an open car and a coupe.
