Excel Formula Not Calculating: Just Showing Formula | Formulas Not Calculating Automatically

In this video, I demonstrate four ways of getting your formula to correctly and automatically calculate. The four reasons that they might not be calculating are:
1) Formulas are entered or formatted as text values
2) Calculation mode is set to manual rather than automatic
3) The 'Show formulas' setting has been turned on
4) You have a circular reference

Thank you, Thank you, thank you. Fairly complicated calculations for invoicing a client and couldn't understand why the formulas were suddenly not working. Called a couple of my Excel "experts," and they had no idea. Turns out it was reason number 3 in your video, the "calculation options" had somehow been switched to manual. Off and running now.

One method I found to be extremely useful is by finding and replacing the = signs. I've been struggling with this for a couple of weeks because by default my formulas were set to automatic in the formula tab and I just could not understand why after switching them to manual and having to double click each cell, the correct formula values would then appear. Bear in mind my dataset had about 28 thousand and some odd records and having to double click each cell just wasn't viable because I had to do the same for about four more columns (i.e., 28k * 4 ≈ 112 k) ,so for me the method I'd suggest is by finding and replacing the = signs if you're working with big data. And to avoid excel from not crashing, select about 500 cells and do the find and replace operation...a bit tedious but it works!

For those like me who tried everything but it is still not working, i realized that you also need to check the version of your excell. Mine was in 2019 and there are some formulas and functions not working but doing it in another excel with 2024 version, it totally worked just perfectly.
I hope you guys will find out what works for you and get that assignment or work going. ❤

Wel done ,you explain very well, Iwrite a formula in one cell (any one ,Left, Mid , Right) and take result, But when i write a another formula in another cell and refer previous formula (Left,Mid Or Right) in this formula excel does not show result but when i write manually values rather than using formula (Left,Mid Or Right) excel displys values,why? The issue im having seems simple but its not, if [If(A1>"","Data", "No Data")] somehow an empty cell is reading as if it has data in it

I found a 5th reason why formulas are not calculating. If the formulas are of a different type or category. In other words, if they do not match they will give a return of zero. My formula in i3 was =8.34*11 which equals 91.74. In cell i4 my formula was =[@[July Due]]+17 which equals 34. I changed cell i4 to the same type as i3, =17*2, and then Excel gave the correct sum of 125.74.
