It's an instrument with a pretty niche use case. All the beatle fare does hurt it's reputation in the versatility department. Some forums that I've been to often insist that the bass is too boomy without even trying to use literally any strings other than flatwounds, or get this, using the bridge pickup on its own. What I've gathered there is that most of the general opinions most bassists have on anything that isn't a fender often exist on the grounds of hearsay. I'd say violin basses are versatile if you put in the time of getting to know the instrument and dealing with it on its own terms. End of rant lol tldr: violin basses aren't the most versatile things out there but they can certainly do way more stuff other than 60s pop.
I think this a short scale bass, but sounds the way I like basses to sound. What a beautiful instrument. It has the better cup pots and that little Hofner logo on the body.
supposedly (key word here) the capacitors and wiring is better, so that improves the sound and durability of the bass and its electronics. Next to this, it looks closer to an og höfner, that's why a lot of people do it
I never cared about Hofner until now. I just read a thread on Takbass of a newbie buying his first bass. Should it be a Hofner or Pbass ? He wants the Hofner, and now I agree !!! The question was will it do Motown ? I think the answer is yes. Maybe not Iron Maiden, but Motown , sure.
@@MoeEezay hey, bros! Also looking for my first bass, same struggle right there haha, I've seen some bad reviews of the ignition, feeling quite uncertain on which to choose...
@Thales Partel Bro..I got the Hofner Ignition, and I cannot tell you how stoked I am. First thing I would say, ignore anyone saying it's not versatile. It's versatile!!! Tone options for days, and uchis easier to control. The finish is exceptional for the price tag. Playability and carriage is beautiful. I would say go for it man!

Thanks for not talking and just playing great bass in a musical context.
Great job
Amazing sounds really! I didn’t know it was so versatile until I watch this

@@possibly8180 Well, at least the 500/2 club bass exists, for all of the Hofner excellence, without the overbearing Beatles association.
Wow, what a versatile bass, I came here as a Beatles fan considering this bass, and was solid immediately! Great video and tasty playing👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Had mine for about two months now - really like it. Especially how light it is!
Thanks! So well recorded and played. This is very helpful, the bass sounds amazing and this helps me to make a choice :-)
The 3rd, 4th and 5th sounds were amazing

Sounds expressive and awesome.
Excellent demo! How does this model compare to the Cavern version that you demoed a while back?
The cavern version seems to have a nicer rounded tone to me. What does everyone else think?
@@briangold6605 I like this one a bit better because the “solo” switch sounds brighter
Cavern is made in Indonesia 👐🏼 the regular Especial edition I’m not sure. But it probably elsewhere
I've never played bass before I bought this bass to practice and I wondered which bass is better with epiphone violin bass or hofner se
the Hofner is generally received as better
What is the signal chain for the bass in this video? Thanks, and excellent playing btw!
Great demo! Thanks a lot!
So much for being pigeonholed into doing 60s stuff, that oughta do it to em.
This model is the $2000 plus edition?
Is this better than just ignition bass?
What is the difference between this one and the cavern ignition?
The cavern ignition has 2 pickups at the neck, while this one has 1 pickup at the neck and 1 at the bridge.
Can you please let me know what is the exactly weight of the bass please? Thank you!
2,3 kg
I see a lot of bassists changing the switch panel on the Ignition. They recommend Höfner Switchpanel HA2B-PC. Will this really change anything ?

Muito bom mesmo
Nice!
is that little hofner logo a sticker or is it imprinted onto the bass?
A sticker
nice sound!
Do you play with roundwound strings or flats?
This one came with roundwounds ... unfortunately! Might sound even better with flats for sure!

This is exactly my buying criteria. I'm still split between the Squire P Bass vs the Hofner Ignition.

@@MoeEezay thanks for the tip man! as a Paul McCartney fan I am looking forward to getting that violin bass beauty, good to hear that it's capable =)
Good for Jazz
Ur swing is killer
What kind of flats are you playing? Great playing BTW
They used the strings which came with this bass.. which are rounds for some reason
Rounds are cheaper, so they ship with those.
Hi! great demo. Can you explain how it was recorded? amp? direct to DAW?
interface -> daw
@@bassbonedo2158 that was the raw signal?? no EQ? no effects? Amazing!
@@samsschool3639 it was indeed! :-)
@@bassbonedo2158 But I assume you added an amp emulation, didn't you?
Great sound, nice playing , can you tell me , what amp and speaker you use!
I built a D.I.Y. Violin _"Beatles Bass"_ Guitar!!
Medesky, Martin and Wood.
Medeski ;-) (one of my favourite bands)
cant hear bass thanks
when u will learn.... we want to HEAR BASS.... not all these other sounds destroying the bass sound
Wow that does not sound like a Hofner at all, holy shit they ruined this instrument ugh.
