Nice one, i always us the ole fairy mix. I guess this isn't recommended when using ct1 as it works in wet conditions?

I’m here in an attempt to rescue my husband’s diy shower disaster yesterday. I wanted to cry this morning at the state of it and it’s taken me three hours to remove his efforts. Bless him, It looked like the dog did it, blindfolded.
Any chance you could come and do my shower? I think I’m about to challenge your husband for the best impression of a blindfolded dog
Come on, we can’t be good at everything!
This comment sounds like it was made by my wife😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
😂
Thanks for the tips! Just sealed my first shower. A little rough around the edges but happy as a first attempt! All the best
Thanks mate, I now feel more confident to silicone my shower tray. I removed old silicon using window scraper as you suggested. The tip to use the blue corner thing - genius! I have one of these lying about from my plastering jobs! Other golden tip was NOT using your finger tips as you immediately transfer bacteria onto the new silicon. Will definitely tune into your site for my next plumbing challenge. Cheers!
Thanks very much for the tips. Been putting this off for a year but today following your tips at last I have got all the old stuff out and cleaned it up ready for the silicone which I hope to do tomorrow .
The clean edge tool looks a good idea so I purchased one. A tip for others a good newish paper scraper also slices through the old silicone and a screwdrier that fits nicely between the tile and the shower base is good for getting out bits that didnt come out with a pull.
Thanks for this!! I've ordered the window scraper tool plus some square things to smooth the silicone. As soon as they arrive, I'm getting it done!! Thanks for the video and advice.
This is the video I needed! Concise and precise and exactly the info I need. Thanks for sharing and extra thanks for keeping it quick and easy to understand.
You make it look so easy, but have given me more confidence to have a go at a job I have been putting off for months. Thanks!
Mr H good luck!
Guy is an absolute legend. Brilliant video - straight to the point no messing around banging on endlessly and even a bit of humour and personality to go with it. Super channel !!! Subscribed instantly. Keep up the good work bro 👍🏼👌🏼
Thanks for this so much, my job turned out great. The smoother was the best thing ever.
Terrific! Chatty and confident, makes you absolutely sure you could do it - almost - as well.
All that we need to know and use in a short straight to the point video. Thanks bro
Thank you, James. I'll be attempting this job tomorrow.
I've already finished most of the job last night, but not the silicone. Thought I remembered correctly, and I did according to you, but that finger causing problems with mold is a new one for me. Thanks from "Across the Pond".
OMG Thank God I watched this!!! My shower has been leaking for 6 months (into the garage below) so I've not used it for six months, had to have baths instead.... But I spent all day cleaning and bleaching the shower today -- and tomorrow I was just gonna silicone over the old silicone!!! I didn't think to remove the old stuff! Thanks so much for the tip.
No worries Dave, how did it go? SUBSCRIBE! ➡️👉 ruclips.net/user/plumberparts 👈⬅️if you haven't already!
Ive finished the remove it part. Thanks for posting this vid.
Great advice, really useful. Thanks!
Brilliant Video 👍👍 straight forward and easy to follow 👌👌👍👍
This is exactly what I needed to see, thanks!
Thanks. I've been putting off redoing my shower. No excuses now.
Thank you foe demo.i can't believe i did it...bloody messy job...but proud to say i did a good job...no leaks so far 👍
Thanks! Great video. The best I've seen on this subject 👌🏻
Thank you for the advice.
at last, some useful info on this issue. Thanks for the video
My first attempt at sealing and it is around a shower cubicle just my luck! Thanks for the instruction.
Great video mate thanks for posting 👍👍👍
Good job, it's work a try TODAY!!!
Next summer play Frilford Heath Golf Club it's an amazing place. Thanks for the silicone tip 👍👍
Hi - thankyou a very helpful video. Just wondered with Dow Corning sealant you used - is it 785. Many thanks
Great tips. I am ready to have a go!!
Thanks for the tips , didn't have the nice silicone former so improvised and used an old gym pass card , just cut the corner off . Well it worked ......not saying it looked as professional as yours but , im happy with it :-) . Maybe might part take in a Peroni or Birra Moretti myself ....i think i earned it .
This looks a lot better than spending an hour scraping at scabby old bits of silicone with a Stanley knife and blade :D I'll have to clean up my act next time I clean up a shower/bath. Thanks James, you the man
Buzz231094 No worries!
Great video, will give it a go. Good to see a plumber not showing his "plumber's crack" lol. Many thanks.
Brilliant. Thank you 👍🏻
Thanks mate great help
cheers - James brilliant vid as usual. What sealant did you use?
The new Fugi V set has a guide that helps the profile move neatly over grout lines. I've not tried it yet though to know if it really works - I've only just ordered the set.
@plumberparts What brand of silocone sealeant do you recommend these days, so many options, thanks
What is the name of the little square blue square you used to smooth the silicone bead?
Been looking for a good video to show me how to do this thank you.
I have a similar shower try to the one in the video with a dip in it where we stand :-( its on a riser kit any videos or advice how I can support / resolve it.
how do you suggest doing corners. clean finish with the silicone tool but the corners i find can look a bit dodgy if i dont go over it twice.
tips?...
great quick video thanks!
Top man James,
Top tips.
Very good video. Thank you.
That really helped me out, thank you for sharing. (Super tip about bacteria! Now I know that I should have bought the little tool Amazon recommended, I thought they were just up-selling haha)
Thanks great advice, especially the bit about not using your finger
Hi useful vid. What sealant did you use in the shower? Cheers
Thanks for the advice. Please can you list the tools used? Many thanks.
I've never tried the spreaders, use masking tape but watching this I may have missed a trick here, cheers mate.
Great work thanks for the help
No worries dude! Glad to help you out!
legend! just got my self a scraper and a pointing tool :D thanks
No worries!
Alright PP!! I have considered in the past having a t-shirt made which says "silicon sealing does not scare me" but to be truthful it still brings me out in a sweat so maybe not just yet....
Window scraper with Irwin blade all the way for me, though not seen that retracting version before. Smooth. Then bit of chemical remover if needed, then meths (mostly for cleaning...) then new stuff. Formers much better than finger as gives good decent sized cross section.
Take it easy!
HandyGuyHints CheersHandy Guy! Those formers are the dog's!
Nifty, thank you 👍😊
I've found that if you spray the low flat seal beads (where water sits) every year with white wine vinegar and water (60/40) it never goes mouldy. Thanks for the tip on the plastic disk. Gonna make one. I was always using a wet finger and always got in a reeet mess.
Thank you
You’re the man
I'm getting one of them silicone formers. Much easier than using my finger and leaves a much better finishes. Cheers matey :)
+Jack Jones They are great! PP!
Came for the sealant tips, stayed for the golf course reviews
I've read that you should use methylated spirit to clean the area after removing the old silicone and before applying the new silicone is that correct?
Can you use the same process for around the outside of shower and around toilet base?
I'm going to install a new shower tray and enclosure this weekend. I'm using a fugi 5 kit for the silicone. What size do people recommend a use on the fugi blade for the shower tray ,6,8,10,16? Also the same question for silicone the shower enclosure panels?
Good video, good tips thanks, not sure about the golf tips !! Definately going to get the silicone profiler.
No worries Dave, glad to help you out fella. GOLF FOR THE WIN! SUBSCRIBE! ➡️👉 ruclips.net/user/plumberparts 👈⬅️ IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY! 😎
The new Cramer Fugi profiler kit has clip-on plastic rails which bridge the grout lines, so you don't leave little dents in the silicone where they cross.
What should I be searching under to find a 10mm profile that you used to smooth the sealant in this video. Many thanks
Hi what silicone do you recommend for shower base please thanks
Fab, thanks.
Nice I need to buy them little blue guitar pick type things 🙏🏾
hey, I need some help. I sealed my shower tray a few weeks ago, I let it set for 24hrs before using it but I has broken away again! any advise?
You are great!!
Yo PP what did you use to clean the black from the old sillicone??
Ta!
What's the best method for sealing larger gaps between the tray and the wall?
VERY GOOD ADVICE......
Thanks Tom!
Thank you. Please would you do a video on sealing a bath tub. I have been told you have to fill it full with water to eight it before sealnt is applied. Is this true?
Yes fill it at lady half full and leave for at least 24 hours before letting the water out
Can you use wulti tool to remove silicone?
OMG Simon Le Bon Moonlighting !
what do I use to clean away the black stuff with, please? before applying silicone? thanks
I did my shower tray week and did a neat job, but have noticed it’s leaking I checked the tube and it’s dowsil 796 the stuff for windows & doors would this be the reason even if it’s got no gaps and it still looks tidy?
Would you seal the tray and the verticals at the same time? if so how do you stop the Fugi smudging the other bead...? Or is it best to allow one to dry and then apply? Or will this join be an area where issues may develop in the future? The Fugi kits come with little wedges to stop grout lines messing with the seal profile - Should these be used or does this create a place for water to gather..As you can probably tell I'm going out of my mind here....Sort me out with a professional view.
Nice one James! Do a video on how I can avoid tradesmen from hell😂 I either get messrs bodgit and run or John Wayne and the cast from the Alamo which is why I am doing this stuff myself, wrong side of 60 with one hip replacement done and another one lined up for when covid19 has run its course! The sites that say they vet tradesman are an absolute joke by the way, I reckon their mum and dad write the reviews for most of them. More power to your elbow old son love the no nonsense videos they are bang on and also entertaining keep em coming.
Use the tool the opposite way first so the chamfer pushes silicone into the joints then use opposite way to finish off.
Stanley blade scraper is the muts nuts
What a great video. You wouldnt believe the agro ive had in the past trying to silicone. One profiler getting bought. Cheers
Live and learn , another valuable tip. When removing excess silicone from the edging tool with toilet paper make sure you put the messy paper into a container or a plastic bag. Dont put it on the floor of the shower tray whilst you carry on working. If you have a small putty knife ( looks like a small paper scraper ) you can use that to take off most of the excess silicone on the edging tool and use it to fill in the gap further along the shower tray.
😂
Good tips. I already tried sealing without removing the old silicant. Didn't work. Waste of time and money. This time I have removed the old silicant but not scraped away the excess. Now I'm off to B&Q for a window scraper and one of those smoothing tools you used. I would have used my finger and made a right mess. By the way, I don't mind the banter. Because most of it was at the end. I could enjoy it knowing that I didn't have a hundred more videos to sit through because this one had answered my questions. Mind you I have to admit that at the beginning even the word "hello, I'm John" had me saying to myself "I don't need your name or an introduction to the video, I might have tons more to watch yet'.
Do you wet the silicon before profiling?
My most important tool is my plumber, what a sweetie!
Maria das Santos Aww ain't that lovely!!!
So you don't spray any water on before you start to smooth out the bead?
Just moved house and the shower tray silicon is atrocious. All messy, blobby and black mould growing in it. Can't wait to do a nice smooth finish! 😊 Thanks!
Hi where did you buy your multi master tool from? I saw it on one of your videos installing a toilet.. Be great if you get back to me thanks
Rickardo Napoli I think I got mine from Screwfix...
I need a silicone profiling tool in my life
What's your favourite pukka pie flavour?
Hi we have a leak in the corner of our new shower. The plumber said she would remove the old silicone and redo it. He removed part of it in the corner then went over the old and put the new in the corner. I'm not happy,is this ok?he also didnt clean it, so dirt is now stuck under the new clear silicone?
Hello Plumber parts. I just want to ask about my shower. Back in the 1970's when my shower was installed they put in a shower liner attached to the wall with nails. The liner has come away from the wall because the nails heads weren't big enough. So now I'm wondering if I go, remove the nails what should I use instead in a wet environment. Are there caps I can put on the end of screws or something like that?
Also the shower tray is not level. Have replaced the vanity in the bathroom (it was absolutely horrible) , but this shower I'm hoping to last me a few more years. I went under the house but got no clues as to why the metal shower tray is at an angle so you end up with a pool on one side. Anyway I'm not the most clued up about plumbing. Will eventually pay someone to rip the whole shower out but got to make do cause blew all the renovation money on double glazing. I am planning on replacing the toilet seat though just cause it will make the toilet look a bit newer than 44 years old. Thanks love your channel :)
Thank you cutie!
Where can you purchase that window scalpel?

Good video @plumberparts BUT I found that there is a 4mm ish gap between tray and tile, full of silicone. I'm led to believe you shouldn't silicone on top of old silicone.. but digging it out of this gap is hell.. help!
what silicone do you use buddy?
When Grouting a shower for the first time , should the joint between the shower tray and tiles be grouted or left open to receive more silicone ?
Also the same question regarding the vertical corner joints ?.
Many thanks in advance
You can run the grout it, then go over with silicone. Should be fine! SUBSCRIBE! ➡️👉 ruclips.net/user/plumberparts 👈⬅️if you haven't already!
If the shower tray has an upturn that has the wall sheet on top of it, this joint is sealed as part of your waterproofing process.
The joint between the bottom of the tiles and shower tray should not be sealed! It should have a 1.5mm gap unless the shower base has drain recesses moulded into it.
Grout is porous and you get some water behind the tiles. Seal that bottom joint and it can't escape. That leads to water damage outside the shower enclosure and mould growth at the silicone, as seen in the video.
Where do you get your silicone forms from mate?
Any local hardwars, or check for Bedek ones online.
Do the silicone formers work well on rough stone effect tiles, wondering about getting one 🤔 great vids fella
LakesLee, silicone former's follow the conjecture of whatever its riding against. if surface is really rough on 1 or both sides of the crack its hard to use this tool & get a good seal on either side of the caulk, try taping off the smooth side if u have 1 & put in as little caulking as possible & strike with finger both ways to work it tight in the rough surface. you can apply a little more then if needed. remove tape carefully while still wet. hope this helps.
@@kickenchicken9645 yeah that's what I usually do, tape both sides then wipe with finger, then wipe each time I remove a tape. 👍🏻
I use mr sheen polish it stops it sticking to anything you dont want it too . Try it ;)
