You're forgetting that the characters were specifically stated to be RETURNING characters. This means only characters in past Mario Kart games are possible, so don't get your hopes up too much guys

With the first three waves, they used nearly all of their heavy-hitter courses to attract early purchases, leaving the last few waves seeming a little less exciting. By announcing the characters late, it regenerates the hype for the BCP and keeps everyone interested.
Pauline's 100% certain bc if they don't add her, the fans would definitely be super upset with Nintendo. Also, I think Petey Piranha, Kamek, Diddy Kong, and Monty Mole would probably be coming as well. I hope that King Bobomb comes bc he is my favorite Mario character in the whole universe.

I just really like the designs of the first two and feel like they deserve to return to Mario Kart, but for Captain Falcon I think he just needs to be in the game because there’s already two tracks and a kart from his games in 8DX, like you said. I know this is the basic opinion, but I legitimately love Funky Kong as a character, and would love to see him come thru the BCP. I also really want Monty Mole, though its probably not likely. As for alt costumes, I really want 9 toad colors like shy guy and yoshi got, and a purple yoshi alt, though I doubt either of those will happen.

My hopes are: Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Paratroopa, Petey Piranha and Kamek. It has been stated by Nintendo that they're only adding returning characters, so no crossover characters unless they randomly get added to tour this year.
I deeply hope for Captain Falcon. It's so frustraiting that there's so much content on his franchise in MK8DELUXE but yet he ISN'T playable, the closest we have is the Mii costume but c'mon dude 😢
Petey is practically a guaranteed since he'd come in the wave with Piranha plant cove. Diddy, Kamek, and Pauline would also make too much sense not to put them in. Funky is also possible but I could also see Nabbit, King Bob-Omb, or maybe someone like Honey Queen or Wiggler just to throw people off

if i was at nintendo i would release: Captain Falcon, Funky Kong, Pauline, a character from the movie (probably mario) and maybe Samus. even though Captain Falcon and Samus are not from the franchise their introductions would kinda make sense since Metroid is killing it with its new 2 releases and MP4 should be coming out some day; F Zero GX is rumored to be released as a remastered version, so having Captain Falcon would rekindle the love for the franchise and more people would spend 40 bucks easily on a GX Remastered. But just these 2 characters, more non mario characters would devalue the name Mario Kart, it needs to be a special occasion, just like it was with Link and the other non mario characters, once a decade and thats it.

Of all of the characters from 3rd party companies, Pac-Man has the second (maybe third?) most extensive history with Mario behind Sonic (and probably the Rabbids)
They obviously wont add him as he's already represented by a Mii suit but Pac-Man would be so cool as a character in the game. After all, Mario Kart Arcade GP was developed by Namco and he was actually a playable character in that game so it would be amazing to see him in a way bigger light
Fawful, King Olly, Olivia, Dimentio, Count Bleck, Antasma, and Cackletta would be cool. Giving Mario Kart some Mario RPG representation from the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi games. They all should also be in Mario Kart Tour as well.
I feel like if they were to do alternate costumes or looks for certain Mario Kart racers, King Boo should get his Luigi’s mansion design as an alternate look. I just think it’d look cool, and this alternate look is already in Mario Kart Tour. I also think like if they were to throw in a completely new racer as one of the last ones, I’d love to see characters from Luigi’s Mansion get out in there. Like E.Gadd, Hellen Graveley, Bogmire, Chauncey etc. or any of the portrait ghosts from the Og Luigi’s Mansion or even the ghosts from Luigi’s Mansion 3, but they would have a much lower chance over the more notable LM characters like the ones I mentioned before.
Personally, my favorite color is blue so any blue characters would be dope, such as megaman, sonic, or the blue turtle guy that you mentioned. Seriously, if they ever make a new Mario Kart game, I want it to be Mario Kart equivalent of Smash Ultimate. EVERY. CHARACTER. EVER. Personally, I would want to see Sonic as a playable character, but I know that’s super unlikely because he’s owned by Sega and they have their own Sonic racing games.
Regarding the kong family and all the different Koopas, they could have differentials like they already included with inklings, Yoshi, birdo and shy guy, different colors and variations. You’d get your characters as well as other character releases
I wouldn't mind a Nintendo Kart game. One of my favorite things about games like Smash, is you get to play as your favorite character outside of their franchise. But Dry bowser is not a costume for bowser right now, so it probably won't happen. Actually "Captain Toadette" IS considered an alt in Mario Kart Tour. She has her regular emblem and is simply called "Toadette (Explorer)"

Since they're made by the same team, it'd be cool to have ARMS character as a guest. Mechanica makes most sense, could retool her suit into a vehicle. Either her or Dr.Coyle wanting to dominate in another fantasy sport lol.

if i was at nintendo i would release: Captain Falcon, Funky Kong, Pauline, a character from the movie (probably mario) and maybe Samus.
even though Captain Falcon and Samus are not from the franchise their introductions would kinda make sense since Metroid is killing it with its new 2 releases and MP4 should be coming out some day; F Zero GX is rumored to be released as a remastered version, so having Captain Falcon would rekindle the love for the franchise and more people would spend 40 bucks easily on a GX Remastered.
But just these 2 characters, more non mario characters would devalue the name Mario Kart, it needs to be a special occasion, just like it was with Link and the other non mario characters, once a decade and thats it.
My 2 dream characters are king Bob omb and captain falcon. Not sure why but I strongly believe that they both deserve to be in the game
I hate to say it but in the direct, they said only returning characters(including Tour) so there’s no hope for some of the characters. Also the blue koopa’s name is Koopa General
One character I would like to see (and I know it's a huge stretch) is Pac-Man as a callback to the arcade games
Of all of the characters from 3rd party companies, Pac-Man has the second (maybe third?) most extensive history with Mario behind Sonic (and probably the Rabbids)

Good news, the lastest Nintendo direct announced wave 6 they add Pauline, Funky Kong, Diddy Kong and Peachette!
Pauline, Diddy, E. Gadd, Funky and K. Rool would be my hopefuls.
They obviously wont add him as he's already represented by a Mii suit but Pac-Man would be so cool as a character in the game. After all, Mario Kart Arcade GP was developed by Namco and he was actually a playable character in that game so it would be amazing to see him in a way bigger light

Keep in mind for Captain Toad/Toadette the headlamp, backpack, pickaxe would justify a heavier weight class

I feel like if they were to do alternate costumes or looks for certain Mario Kart racers, King Boo should get his Luigi’s mansion design as an alternate look. I just think it’d look cool, and this alternate look is already in Mario Kart Tour. I also think like if they were to throw in a completely new racer as one of the last ones, I’d love to see characters from Luigi’s Mansion get out in there. Like E.Gadd, Hellen Graveley, Bogmire, Chauncey etc. or any of the portrait ghosts from the Og Luigi’s Mansion or even the ghosts from Luigi’s Mansion 3, but they would have a much lower chance over the more notable LM characters like the ones I mentioned before.

Personally, my favorite color is blue so any blue characters would be dope, such as megaman, sonic, or the blue turtle guy that you mentioned. I also think they should totally throw in some sweet skins for already existing characters. Maybe they can throw in skins from smash bros, like the reverse color luigi and the doctor mario outfit.

He was actually planned for mario kart 64 and not super mario kart. According to beta screenshot of mk64 he was replaced by donkey kong because DK was found more relevant at the time

Regarding the kong family and all the different Koopas, they could have differentials like they already included with inklings, Yoshi, birdo and shy guy, different colors and variations. You’d get your characters as well as other character releases

One of my favorite things about games like Smash, is you get to play as your favorite character outside of their franchise.

If dark browser returns, I will be super happy. He is my favorite Mario character so I would love to play as him. He could also be a costume for bowser with dry bowser. But Dry bowser is not a costume for bowser right now, so it probably won't happen. If not, gold dry bowser could be a costume for dry bowser and dark bowser could be a costume for normal bowser. they could also all be costumes of each other of have no costumes at all.
If Peter did make it to the game it would just be a new ability that only Toadete could use
