I am a retired CT tech having worked at Level 1 Trauma Center for nearly 15 years. I can't begin to estimate how many trauma brains I have scanned - certainly totaling well into the thousands. If I had scanned a head that showed injuries that extensive, I would suspect motor vehicle or other significant blunt force head trauma. If they told me it was from a fall, I would ask from what floor. I can't imagine a seizure powerful enough to cause these injuries. Basilar skull fracture and bilateral orbital fractures don't just happen without massive blunt trauma. Something is fishy

Even if he was a tall man who may have passed out and fell without any resistance and landed on a cement floor? The floors in hotels are cement. He was 6’3”. That comedian who passed out or had a seizure on stage and fell also fractured her skull, so it seems like he could have, too? And if he hit that hard, the impact could have caused the fractures in the eyes sockets? I’m certainly not arguing with you due to your experience, I’m just wondering.

@@JanetSmith900 Something very fishy going on here. A blow to the back of the head wouldn't cause the orbiits to fracture. From the extent of his injuries I would expect to see more evidence of trauma. The blow(s) to his head had to be significant because of the severity of the damage, but there was no laceration and/or severe blood loss. Then there's the contre-coup injury. I only saw this once as an ER Nurse. The patient was in an auto accident and she expired several days post accident. It takes a great deal of force to create this type of head injury. I hope that if there was foul play, and it sure sounds like there was, that the perpetrator is brought to justice. RIP Funny Man.

The police aren't going to cover up a murder for any reason, but especially not to protect the family's reputation. If it is a suspicious death, it must be investigated. It doesn't matter what the family wants. There has to be an investigation, which means detectives don't consider it a possible murder.

@@gman7644 I doubt it. Autopsies are performed when cause/manner of death cannot be readily determined or when foul play is suspected, or in the case of suicide--to make sure it wasn't a murder staged to look like suicide. It would be the medical examiner's job to establish cause of death amd manner of death. If the cause is "undetermined" or "homicide" the death must be investigated as a murder. The examiner must have reason to believe there was no foul play. Police can't just decide to cover-up a suspected homicide.

He would not be able to just get up and go about the rest of his night, talk to wife, crawl in bed etc. That is the part that is making the whole thing be off. Of course, every injury is not text book so I guess it is possible. I have personally never seen that with a basilar fracture. Now if they were just saying he had a linear fracture then I would say yes, he could do all these things and not realize he was injured. From seeing what the autopsy says it seems to me like he hit the back of his head hard and it shattered outwards causing multiple fractures including the eyes. That would have to be a lot of force. Think like if you break your windshield. You see the point of impact and it webs out in a circle. That's what I'm assuming happened to his skull. It would be unlikely he would get up from that. It's almost always fatal if not tended to immediately.

I can't speak for what happened to Bob Saget but I can say this much. The injuries reported so far in the autopsy are so similar to what my son, at the time 2 days shy of his 7th birthday, sustained when he was hit by a car and thrown 40 ft landing on the pavement. My son was in and out of consciousness only opening his eyes to scream out in pain for 1 second before going unconscious again. He did this several times before the ambulance arrived and transported him to the hospital where he was intubated and remained in a coma for a week. He spent several months in rehab where he had to learn to speak all over again. I can't see how Bob Saget could have even got himself in the bed at all. I suspect he somehow was hit in the head perhaps with a baseball bat and then received help from probably my more than 1 person, unless the person was very strong, into the bed. This seems very suspicious. I won't be surprised at all to hear his cause of death ruled homicide.

I’m no neurosurgeon, but I’ve been in law enforcement for over 10 years. I have never seen a single story accident cause such severe trauma in my entire career. I’ve seen elderly people take tumbles down the stairs and hit their heads on concrete floors and not suffer close to this much trauma. Subdural hematomas, sure.. but not multiple skull fractures and broken orbital bones. The forceful trauma he suffered is more what we’d expect from high impact car accidents or falls from significant heights, such as the top of a roof. This seems extremely suspicious to me. There is no accident I can think of in a one story room where this amount of trauma would make sense with what was initially reported at the scene. Where is the rest of the autopsy report? Did he suffer any other injuries on his body? Trauma so severe should also have resulted in other injuries to other parts of his body as well, at the very least bruising…unless someone hit him with something like a bat. Im not buying it. Im honestly shocked the medical examiner was able to deem this accidental with this amount of trauma and no real explanation for how so much trauma occurred. And since it’s ruled as accidental, police will close it…no crime to investigate without at least an undetermined cause of death, which is what I would have expected here. Guess we’ll never know now, but this doesn’t sit well with me. At least not until/unless further details are released. Obviously the ME has more information than we do and felt confident that no foul play was involved...I would like to know their theory on how these injuries were sustained.

His show ended at 10 pm. The drive back to the Ritz Carlton would have taken him 2 hours, perhaps less if he were speeding a bit. So he would have returned around 11:45 pm or midnight. But how is it that his key card does not show entry into the room until 2:17 am? This seems to indicate a stop along with way. If he were in a car accident on the way back, it would have taken a lot of people to cover it up. The rental car would have had to be towed and disposed of and his body taken back to his room and arranged. And someone would've had to compose that tweet he sent at 3:42 am to his fans, with a photo of himself. I don't think this theory is possible.

My only brother was in the audience that Sat. night enjoying the show. He said BOB SAGET did a TWO HOUR stand-up act, NEVER taking a break or even drinking any water during the set, and was VERY funny and in good spirits. He watched him LEAVE the venue shortly after midnight BY HIMSELF in his rental car. IDK if we will ever find out what really happened to this poor man who brought such joy and laughter to so many in his lifetime but it does NOT appear to have involved any other unknown persons. Trust me, Orange County has VERY experienced homicide detectives who thoroughly investigated his hotel suite and found there to be NO foul play. Where he fell and what he hit his head on, we may NEVER know. May he RIP.

Ret.RN here. Neuro floor experience, and one too many TBIs in my life that ended my career early. I broke this report down exactly like you did, Doctor. Thank you for telling people the truth.
I do not like to disparage the dead. However, people must wake up and research deeper into the person Saget was in real life vs. "America's Dad" and all--around nice, fun-loving guy.
That he would be "taken out", due to his hidden life, is extremely plausible.
I have a personal saying, "when Law Enforcement arriving on a scene seem far too dumb for words, when it doesn't make sense, it is a cover-up; lies being told."
I have an adult child that is a Detective. How do you look at a man perfectly tucked into bed with his arm positioned across his chest in a symbolic way, with the obvious double black eyes and trauma to the forehead/eye orbits, and state: no foul play suspected?
Not ANY police officer or detective I know. Then move the body and find the profound traumatic injuries to the basilar/temporal lobe? No way on God's green earth! No blood on the pillow from the "abrasion"? Only if he was killed elsewhere and put into the bed.
Furthermore, ANYBODY that has ever suffered a concussion would understand that you cannot possibly make your way gently into bed, tuck yourself in, cross your arm over your chest and go to sleep. The room, after a simple concussion, would be disturbed!
This "story" is equal to Jeffrey Epstein's alleged "suicide", Jon Benet Ramsey's murder, and the "single Las Vegas shooter" stories. Bumbling cops? NO. Cover-ups? Absolutely.
I believe Bob Saget's wife and family know the truth.
    This "story" is not it.

My last stay at a Ritz-Carlton was on Amelia Island. Our room was on the Club Level, and there was limited access to the Club Level floors. I have not read whether Mr. Saget's room was Club Level, but that would have added an extra layer of security presumably. I suspect he was attacked on the premises and the Ritz-Carlton wants to avoid a negligent security lawsuit that could cost the company millions. This whole tragic situation does not pass the sniff test. Why didn't his widow order a private autopsy to confirm the findings? She has the financial means to do so, and that is what I would have done. Dr. Jan C. Garavaglia used to be the ME in Orlando, and many may recall her television series, "Dr. G." She testified in the Casey Anthony murder trial about Caylee's cause and manner of death. She probably would have come in for a consult in this sort of high-profile case. At least he wasn't cremated, so an exhumation is possible for a second look. May Bob Saget rest in peace.

If he was found in his bed after theoretically falling and hitting his head, then that means he was conscious and lucent enough for some period of time to walk to his bed after the injury. He would have been in severe pain and would not have just laid down to sleep it off. He would have called 911, security, or family or some attempt at getting help. There is definitely something fishy going on. Dr. Rutkowski explained it well, while being respectful. He wouldn't have the extent of injuries he had if he simply hit his head. Think about it, in a hotel room, sure, you can fall in the shower and hit your head. You may get a concussion or something a little more serious, but the extent of the injuries listed is not adding up. I would look at two things. 1. No signs of trauma - injuries that severe would show trauma. 2. His body was found in a resting position, complete with his left arm across his chest (as if to suggest a cardiac event). In my opinion, Mr. Saget was murdered. I pray the family is doing the right thing and having second opinion conducted. As much as we want to know as general public, they need more answers for their own closure. This is insane.

An older adult woman that I know, fell down her stairs to the basement and hit her head on the concrete wall.
It was a holiday and her family were present at the time of her fall.
She refused to go to the ER saying that she was fine.
Three weeks later, she was admitted to the hospital with a brain infection.
The surgeon said that when she hit her head 3 weeks earlier, she had a brain bleed that resulted in the infection.
Thankfully, she has had a full recovery.

My husband was thrown 25 feet in a construction accident and he had similar injuries ( shaken brain, skull, bleeding). It took the force of hitting the ground after being thrown at great force, to cause those injuries. Was Mr Sagget in a vehicle accident that night and brought to his room by guilty parties? Laidout on the bed? I don't think he was attacked in his room because his head and brain injuries are too severe. And a fall, even two falls dont produce enough velocity.

I remember hearing about a case where someone had severe bodily trauma and died inside a hotel room, w/no sign as to what caused it, looked they had been in a car wreck level of trauma, but room was all nice and I think the door was even locked form the inside if I remember right. Turned out someone had accidentally fired a gun randomly, in another room, and the bullet passed through the wall and just happened to hit the victim. The autopsy had missed the entry wound, so for a while it had remained a mystery, the damage was so severe and widespread no one even suspected a single bullet. Private investigators uncovored the hole in the wall, which had been filled in by the people who had fired the gun, so it had been missed by the police. Both the police and the medical examiner had overlooked some key facts (the entry wound, and the hole in the wall) which would have solved the matter, but luckily private investigators later found enough to put the whole story together.

Raccoon eyes with a linear fracture to the occipital region, wouldn't that suggest that only the occipital region was hit?
I was only an EMT but to suggest that he was hit directly to the orbital region as a cause for orbital fracture would have other signs like broken nose or severe edema to the face with eyes not just blackened but swollen shut.
I am not saying that you suggested the direct orbital hit but many believe that if the orbits are fractured it only means he was struck in the front as well as the back. I would think that a heavy enough blow to the occipital region could cause his eye sockets to fracture, they would swell just a bit but certainly blacken.

Hearing your description of Saget’s injuries puts a whole new light on the matter. I had a head injury caused by losing my footing on a mat near the front door of my apartment lobby. I was thrown backwards with great force and hit the back of my head on a metal table. Needless to say, it bled like crazy. I applied pressure to the bleed and went to the ER. They checked for brain bleeds, stapled the cut and sent me on my way. My injury seems like it was like the explanation of Saget’s death, however, mine did not result in any of the extensive injuries you described. There’s definitely more to the story.

Since there was no blood loss from the head injury, the people who found him observed a man with no obvious trauma lying in bed. They assumed he in all likelihood that he died of natural causes. I suffered a traumatic brain injury that very same night. That Saturday night that Bob Saget suffered his accident. My accident happened at 4:45 PM. I was across a freshly mopped, polished concrete floor, that I did not know, was wet. I was walking very fast and, in one split second, both my feet were out from under me and I was flat on my back, and my head bounced off the concrete twice. I suffered a level three concussion and neck and back injuries. That was two years ago and I am still alive, that being said, when I heard the news of Bob Saget accident, and I read the report from the coroner that came out a little later that described all of his injuries in detail, I was shocked. I wanted to know how he could die from an accident similar to mine and why I wasn’t dead. The very first thing I said to myself was that he could not possibly have simply fell and backwards, and struck his head, even on the concrete, to suffer such injuries. If you have I socket injuries in the front and the back, someone clearly struck him with a blunt object or, my other Thought was that he jumped off of the roof of the hotel, and hit his head but he didn’t die. Still, I don’t think he would’ve had the wherewithal to get himself back to his room. Who knows but I honestly believe somebody attacked him and they know who it is but they just don’t want to say . Why else would his family not want to investigate any further and not want any other information released? I swear I think it was someone he knew, and they had an altercation of some sort, and he was beaten to death. That’s my gut instinct and I’m sticking with that. it’s very sad. Doctor, I would like to thank you for providing us with your thorough medical opinion regarding the death of Bob Saget. I may not be a doctor but just reading about those injuries as a common everyday individual gave me pause. Here what concerns me more. His family is seeking an injunction to have the pictures from being released to the press and public. Lol, it's none of my business how he dies. But it is my business as a frequent visitor to Orlando if Bob Saget was murdered with a blunt object such as a bat. It baffles me that the family is not creating more of a stir after the latest autopsy results were released. I get it. They are entitled to their privacy, but if he was viciously attacked on the hotel grounds or in his room, then I do want to know this. There is absolutely no reason to keep this from the public. Shame on whoever is behind this coverup. It just doesn't make sense. What was initially a unfortunate accident keeps getting worse as more information is provided to the public. Bottom line, you professional input certainly puts things into perspective and again, thank you for sorting it out and telling us all the truth.

Throughout the years I’ve lived in Florida several areas in the state have been known to be violent with tourists being robbed, gunned down, attacked, bludgeoned etc even while tourists are near or inside their hotels. Orlando has had significant problems of such even around the Disney area. I wonder if someone followed him up to his room and assaulted him before he even had a chance to settle in for the night. What I don’t understand is why his wife doesn’t want the police report and autopsy results released to the public. It appears something tragic happened but not from a slip and fall in a bathroom. 😢

Given these recent findings and the oversimplified summary in the autopsy report, other factors are inevitably brought into question. His body, given his massive head injuries seems to have been staged. It is extremely unlikely one with injuries so massive and severe would simply lay down on their bed and die in quiet repose. Second, the willingness of the family to accept the results without question seems suspect as well, especially in light of the most recent findings. Typically, family would "demand" answers and advocate for re-opening the case. The family silence may indicate Mr. Saget had a "shadow" history of unscrupulous behavior (e.g., Bob Crane) that, now with his death can be put to rest and the honorable traits of his character retained as his legacy. I certainly hope this is not the case, but, as with so many other celebrities, dark truths often surface after their passing. Regardless, there is a strong "wait and see" element to Mr. Sagets demise. I hope, ultimately, there is nothing amiss and his family can return to the privacy of their personal lives without embarrassment or shame.

Hotel previously stated security video shows him enter his room and then no other entry until hotel security went to the room and found him. This was the ritz Carlton so I’m sure there is plenty of security and cameras. He posted on twitter at 3:42 am. He was on the ninth floor so someone entering his room from outside would be unlikely. He is VERY tall (6’5”) so if he stepped into the shower and his feet slipped out from under him it would be a hard fall indeed. He could have hit his head on the tub. Heather McDonald fainted on stage recently and she cracked her skull. If you watch the tape, before she actually falls she bends over so she didn’t fall from her full height and yet she did have a skull fracture and black eyes. She also didn’t jump up and carry on. She left by ambulance. The fact that all the doctors are coming out to reject the idea of this being a slip and fall accident is disturbing. They also seem to indicate he couldn’t just put himself to bed after that type of injury. That’s the part that gets me because I do think a lot of people would attempt to brush themselves off and “will see how I feel tomorrow.” So many doctors saying nope not possible…the extent of the injuries are not from a slip and fall within his hotel room. I don’t think Ive ever seen so many people attest to what a nice person this man was so the idea that someone did this to him adds to the utter mystery of how Bob Saget died.

@@bopeep1455 I agree. There's a significant distance between a "bump on the head" (the term people use to characterize the unlikelihood of a fall in his room) and "being hit with a baseball bat." Those two extremes do not account for the variety of possibilities. There's absolutely a scenario where he takes a hard fall -- in the shower or otherwise -- and he knows it's serious but, as you speculate, lies down, thinking "Man, this is bad. Should I call an ambulance...?" And before he can get too far with those thoughts, he passes out and dies. I know that for a lot of people, this kind of scenario isn't "Dateline" enough. And God knows we live in a conspiracy theory-saturated culture where everything must have a nefarious explanation. But sometimes weird shit happens. This may well be one of those cases where it seems like one-in-a-million, but is actually quite simple. I've been really sick in the middle of the night and thought "Do I really want to go to the ER now, at 3:00 in the morning?" Saget may have had those same fleeting thoughts. Also, I don't put a lot of stock in statements such as "I'm a nurse and I've never seen anything like that." Sure. Until you do.

@@markdodson6453 You are 100% on point. I’ve been a Neuro ICU RN for many years. I see brain injuries literally every single day. That’s all I do. And I’ve taken care of many patients over the years with severe head injuries from a fall that occurred from a standing position to a hard floor. It happens. It’s not super common, but it’s common enough that I do it see it occasionally on my unit. And something else I see often is people blowing off severe head injuries. People can suffer mortal wounds and remain conscious for a while. They’re known as ‘walking corpses’ as morbid as that sounds. Natasha Richardson is a great example. I’ve taken care of many patients whose family members reported the patient was talking and walking after the severe injury, saying they’d just ‘sleep it off,’ only to never wake up. It sounds crazy to a lot of people but it does happen fairly often. With brain bleeds, symptoms don’t always immediately appear, especially the older you get. Your brain atrophies as you age, giving more room in the cranial vault to bleed and swell before the symptoms appear. His bleeds may not have caused immediate symptoms. As for the fractures, I always tell my patients/their families this: How do you know a wrist is broken? You can see a deformity. You can attempt to bend it and see what happens. With the skull, you don’t have that. You can’t always see it. You can’t move it around to see if it feels broken. And a lot of people don’t even realize you can break the skull! Because of that, many people will write off skull fractures as just a terrible headache and a sore scalp. It sounds insane to many people but again, I see it at work all the time. It’s really not as crazy and unusual as people think it is.

It's difficult to imagine any scenario where a slip and fall could cause this. Maybe if Mr. Saget suffered a really bad fall, one where his feet slipped out from under him and he landed with the back of his head on the edge of the tub? But you would think not only would he be knocked out and in great distress when he awakened, there would be blood or hair left on whatever surface he hit. Also, hard to imagine him just going to bed and then lying on his back with the bruised portion of his head resting on the pillow.
Suggests he had some help getting those injuries, and the room was staged. But then again - where's the evidence? No security camera footage? No sign of another person in the room?

He was murdered, let's face it. I have a feeling that some thug knew who he was and followed him to his room to rob him OR he had a hooker in his room that went really bad maybe because of the hooker or her pimp or both. I fractured my skull when I was eighteen, falling off car in motion screwing around which was the thing to do in my town. That was the feeling of death and it was only a hair line left parietal/temporal fracture, but it still put me out of life for weeks. So, I'm guessing he got bashed in the head by some perp and then placed in the bed. Something about his left arm resting on his chest doesn't sound right, sounds staged. Who sleeps with their arm across their chest? The facts will come out at some point....not on 'who done it,' but the law will have to make a statement at some point to speak of possible nefarious activities occurring the night of his death.

I am a detective for over 30 years, most of the time, when we find a healthy man is a hotel room dead without any visible injuries, we find that the man took few pills for E.D anticipating a visit of a female. When the female knock the door and nobody answers, she leaves, however if the female is known to the subject, she would call multiple times, then leaves thinking the man changed his mind. On many occasions these incident happens to celebrities, families fight to keep the information private. I did not investigate the case of Mr Saget, maybe some medical condition afflicted MR. Saget, I leave this to the pathologist. I miss Bob very much, he was a funny man.
