Crusell was a very good clarinettist and composer. Listen to all his quartetts

Certainly a very fine and refined performance. All the phrasing, tempi and dynamics are well defined and effective. Bravo to Romie de Guise-langlois for the beautiful singing quality even though it is obvious that the string players have the better instruments to work with. The small diaphragm condenser microphones seem to work OK for the viola and violin. Perhaps the cello and clarinet should look for a personal larger diaphragm vacuum tube microphone personalized for such work. The full range of the cello would benefit and the clarinet would not sound so harsh in the clarion register.

Beautiful sound from the clarinet and nicely balanced with the strings. The sound a bit reminiscent of the early clarinet sound, I like it for the Crusell time period. The overall performance is the tops, doesn't get better than this. As far as the composition by Crusell, it is much better than his concertos which were written as show-off pieces, but not this beautiful quartet. Gorgeous!

excellent performance, all instruments are very well played . Good example for us starting the 28th this month! Second movement first! Our clarinetplayer will have the best part! Great!

Romie's breath control is incredible. Pretty sure there was some circular breathing in there.

For some reason this keeps reminding me of the chimpanzees’ tea party which used to occur at London Zoo every afternoon. Don’t know if it still happens or not

crusell was a first rate composer for clarinet...

Most central European operas were heard for the first time in Norway and Sweden because Crusell transcribed them for local ensembles and translated the languages. He had studied clarinet in Berlin and was considered as fine a player as anyone in the early 19th C.

How many sousafans are there? He was the first music super-star of the 20th C!

i lost count ha - yea he was truly a music superstar during his lifetime due to national and world wide performances with his world class band - the quality of his best marches was undoubtedly equaled by other composers but the sheer number written by sousa deservedly makes him the 'march king' :)
