  • Sixty seconds. Seven floors. One elevator. Fifteen-year-old Will’s brother has just been shot, and Will is ready to follow “The Rules”: 1) “No Crying.” 2) “No Snitching.” 3) “Get Revenge.” But on the ride down, with his brother’s gun in his pocket, his plan is interrupted by a few visitors. D.C.-area native Jason Reynolds's New York Times best-selling book comes to the stage in a compelling and timely world premiere Kennedy Center commission production. Told entirely in free-form poetry, Long Way Down captures the potent minute Will contemplates retaliation. As mysterious guests appear at each floor, Will realizes there might be a bigger story to be told. He knows who he’s after. Or does he?

This book is simply amazing. Totally recommended for readers of ALL ages, including educators of young people. You are a literary genius, Mr. Reynolds.

One of the things Jason Reynolds teaches is that you DON'T have to be a "literary genius." He just loves children and tells his stories with great love. You too can tell your stories with great love!

This man is amazing. Even when he speaks his words flow like rehearsed poetry. I'm so excited to read this book

Just read it really gets under your skin in a good way like getting educated on a different way of thinking like a whole different style for the first time about different predicaments or circumstances some ppl are put in and it literally gets carried on for generations like a curse. And you gotta chose one or the other but usually both choices will be gut wrenching because your putting lion pride to the side for either of the choices you choose. Thanks for writing the book my brother made me read it! And the book gave me a different look on a lot of things!

So true & smart all he said. It is now I feel. Is like most humans must feel. If you are super happy vives it is easy to stay possitive, but not everyone is like that in face of adversity, etc. I know I'm not.

He seems like a well-spoken young man, I don't understand why he would write something that paints African Americans in such a despondent and illiterate light. All the negative stereotypes come to life. Why? Why perpetuate those stereotypes instead of writing something positive, encouraging or uplifting?
