    Vickie, I'm pleased you enjoyed the video of my Elkounds.
    Once you've had an Elkhound you just seem to want more, they are very special.

      So sorry to hear about your Elkie, 18 was a good age, don't know of many reaching that age, our last oldie made just coming up to 15, we thought that was good, they leave a lot of good memories.

    I loved this video. I had an Elkhound for 15 years and unfortunately he passed while I was away with the Army. They are willful but I found it to be one of their most endearing traits along with their loyalty. I used to get a mound of fur when I brushed him but it comes with the territory. Luckily we had plenty of area to run him just like in the video. I didn't know they loved fruit so much though as mine didn't.

    I took nine-year-old Aanika to the Peachtree Hills Arts Festival in Atlanta last weekend. Aani was a model citizen, accepting the admiration and petting from all who offered it. Of about six hundred people she met, only about six of them recognized the breed.
    I'm OK with that.
    Elkhounds are the best dogs, but they're not for everybody.

    I really enjoyed this video. I have a Norwegian Elkhound named "King". He is always full of energy, so we take him for walks on a 2 kilometer path walk.

      LEGO TOM
      did you know that 10 minutes whith running freely in forests equals 1 ouer of walking for the dog.
      normaly my dog barks at me as soon as i opes the door, but in huntigseason she is as quiet as can bee.

      Daisy, you're right they are strong willed and try to take over, but once you understand them and learn to live with them, I couldn't have any other Breed now.
      It is a tremendous loss when they pass over Rainbow Bridge but they live in your memory for ever.

    How are these dogs in terms of shedding compared to buhunds or siberian huskies?

    • @Teamman30
      @Teamman30  9 лет назад +1

      Steven Barbir I would think they about the same shedding the coat, I've no experience of living with the Buhund or the Siberian but the Elkhound does shed an awful lot. a Dyson is the only vac to cope with the amount of hair, a vac with a bag will just clog up and stop working

    • @daisyrivers2181
      @daisyrivers2181 5 лет назад

      They shed really bad, but if you brush or COMB them EVERYDAY you WON'T have a big mess.

  • @hembrel
    @hembrel 7 лет назад +1

    Is it necessary to clip a Norwegian elkhounds' nails?

  • @ozzy61foster
    @ozzy61foster 9 лет назад +3

    I must warn people not accustomed to dogs that these dogs seem to be raised by experts. An ordinary elkhound is "sharp", e.g. ready for almost everything, including hunting and killing. It is very independent and will easily take the role as the boss if you fail to do so. The playing you see on this film is really the fight for world domination. Don't let this be your first dog; they top the list of dogs given up for adoption in the US. That said, this is the sweetest, friendliest and smartest dog you'll ever find, hands down. They can sulk for days if you treat them unfair and bite you if you get the stupid idea of hitting them. They are not afraid or have excessive respect for you so you have to show them that it is in their interest to cooperate with you.

    • @sy4920
      @sy4920 7 лет назад +1

      if your dog does do somethig that deservs punishment, do not hit your dog but grab him or her by the skin of theyr neck and pull, not too hard but so that he or her notices it. but do not punish your sog for something it did a while ago, then it wil most definitely missunderstand you.
