Hi John. The boy was pretty happy with that one. I think that moment really captures what trout fishing is all about. Thanks for taking time to comment. Regards, Colby.
Cheers Farmer Bob. The boy is a good battler out on the river. Doesn't mind a bit of blackberry or gorse and is pretty good with his river crossings. I'm editting the first Black Creek video for this season now. Hope to have it done soon. Thanks for taking time to comment. Regards, Colby.
Excellent video - good humour - your fish management post netting seems pretty good also - minimal time out of the water - great to see. Keep it up. Adrian
Hi Adrian, I'm glad you liked the video. Yeah I use the heaviest leader and tippet I can get away with and try to get the fish to the net ASAP so they aren't over fatigued. All the shooting I do out of water is 2-3 seconds, then in post production I use slow mo to increase the duration of the shot. If you look hard enough you can see how slow the water is dripping off the fish. I've caught several of the same fish season after season so I figure I must be getting something right. In the last three seasons I know of one fatality that I caused to a good fish. Looking back on it the water conditions were too low and warm to fish. The trout went into a seizure as I took it out of my landing net and wasn't swimming well afterwards. Because of our maximum size limit rules I wasnt legally allowed to harvest it so I watched it for a hour or so after release. Three days later I found it dead washed up downstream from the run I had caught it in. It was a real shame and unnecessary. Hard lesson learned. Thanks for taking time to comment. Regards, Colby.
Great to see you back Colby, another excellent vid, couple of nice fish there and I bet that made you feel real proud of your boy, congratulations young man well done, you have a great mentor there in your father.
