❤ Love the work you 2 are doing.
Now I am really just a stereo only sort of guy, as I just don't see a way to place more than two or 2+1 speaker setup in my home. So I am more interested in all things stereo, plus also the TV reviews as who doesn't watch a movie or game a little. Only you manage to make the multi-channel stuff interesting and, as the sort of go to tech guy in my circle, a little general knowledge never hurts. Kudos.

    • @KING_DRANZER
      @KING_DRANZER 4 месяца назад

No I still don't agree that SONY BRAVIA QUAD can be considered as a replacement for actual dedicated multi channel setup. I set up two rooms for my uncle one with HT-A9 + SW5 and other with KEF Qseries 5.4 + 2x Dayton SUB Kits + Onkyo 797. Yes dedicated setup was $300 more than SONY setup. But the difference was night and day. No kidding. He then returned the SONY setup and got the same setup for that second room as well. So yes there is a huge difference. And now that the price of BRAVIA QUAD going up by $1000 I think for that difference we can easily get good 7.2.4 Setup which far outclasses the Quad.
Now please don't think that this guy always drops in just to disagree with us or drop negative comment. I always watch your content and I do that because I love it. It is same as when mom asks me and dad why we only complaint when something is wrong with the food and not compliment when it is good. As she cooks to perfection 99% of the time we really don't need to point out the obvious of how good it really is. But that 1% when it is not good we just let her know. Similarly all your content I mostly agree with and love it. Just when I think that something stated is not right or something I just point it out. But yes I do love your content and enjoy watching it keep it up guys.

I barely have ever commented on YT ever. I figured out my old log in just to chime in. I used to work at an electronics store in the 90's and I have had at least 15 completely different set ups from 5.1 to atmos and then some. From $1500 to $12,000 systems. I have the A9 now and it blows all of the past systems out of the water! NOT EVEN CLOSE no matter the price of the set ups. The cohesive sound from the Sony OLED tv Center channel mode with the front two speakers is JUST INCREDIBLE AND PRECISE. I am absolutely selling my A9 I bought last year to get this updated version. I don't care if you think your $15k sound system is better. Your wrong. Period. This is the future. The future looks less cluttered and sounds better than ever. Like he says, if you haven't heard one in a home yet then you need to stop. It's absolutely spectacular. PERIOD. A new SONY OLED with this system is the BEST thing I have purchased in years.

Sonos sub is better, but the mini and gen 3 are better than sw3/5, and the Atmos is a bit better than Sony’s too, but this is mainly because you have control of your height speakers with the Sonos. Everything else, Sony beats it. Better separation. Better voice clarity, and if you have an AppleTV 4K, idk what it is, but LPCM sounds much better on any other system I had over Sonos. Did you test the Quads on the latest firmware Andrew?
The new firmware only came out a few days ago which did the following:
    Improved Acoustic Center Sync
Supported VoiceZoom3 feature (only available on 2024 tvs and the A95L)
    Other minor feature improvement
The new acoustic center sync now actually calibrates the TV alongside the speakers so that it plays in unison with the speakers instead of independently like the previous model. The update for this is available for the following tv models below and you'll get a prompt in the app to run an additional calibration with the TV included.
    2024 - Bravia 7/8/9
    2023 - A95L/A80L/X95EL/X90L/91L
    2022 - A95K/A90K/A80K/Z95EK/X90K/X91K/Z9K
    2021 - A90J/A80J/X95J/Z9J

Thank you both for your reviews. I appreciate the simplicity and flexibility of a system like this.
I’m no audiophile, but I used to spend time and money on components, speakers, wiring…etc. I was always fidgiting, tweaking and fussing with components in an effort to find some magical, mystical sound. I found myself doing this stuff on family movie nights with our kids and taking away from everyone’s experience. Then we bought a fixer upper house and had no system for a while…we ended up having the best movie nights using our temporary tv w no system and it was because it was no fuss.
I sold my components and bought a Bose soundbar 900 and sub based partly on your review. The family loves the simplicity and the fact that I’m not sweating about crossovers, amp settings…etc. Now we just have fun watching movies on a simple setup that sounds pretty darn good.
When the time comes for a change, I won’t hesitate to look into something like the Quad.

On a grading system, the sound for me is a solid B/B+. The ease of installation and use, is an A-. We do everything from music, movies even sing karaoke. I've seen guests look up and back to see where the sound was coming from. I don't plan on upgrading but if I had no sound system or upgrade from a mid-level soundbar, I would give the Bravia Theatre a try. Just one comment regarding more manufacturers joining the soundbar and virtualization bandwagon...
Manufacturers only exist as long as they have customers, and the main market is on those kinds of products.
Soundbars became a trend at the same time that having 6 rectangular boxes inside a living room became as visually striking as having a CRT TV.
The main difference is that TVs got smaller while they became increasingly better at displaying images (no matter how high the price of that CRT was back then), which certainly didn't happen with sound.
Soundbars and virtualization had a huge progress (which is always good), but in the end, a good 5.1 system from 20 years ago can still be great today, just by replacing the receiver to a newer one, and eventually adding up a few more loudspeakers for Atmos.
With all of these "Home Theater in a Box" designs, there won't be any support after de first decade (in best case scenario), and it will end in the trash.
This is a fact that anyone can easily check for themselves.
Back to the original point, most manufacturers were actually forced to have one or more soundbars in their line, because they bring customers and needed sales figures.
With so many people listening to music and movies on smartphones (with the built-in "speakers"), we could also argue that people "want" that, but it would be very hard to argue that anyone can have a great audio or video experience on such a small device. 😉
Some people are a little be more demanding, and use a small portable Bluetooth speaker, which can be great, depending on what any person is expecting from it.
It would be safe to say that there are insanely more Bluetooth speaker sales daily on any part of the world than sales of traditional speakers, or even soundbars.
Sales numbers are often disconnected from performance or objective facts alone, and have way much more factors than that, so I would never use sales figures as any sort of measure of quality.
Bear in mind that I really appreciate all this variety of products, as it means that there is a product for more individual and specific needs.
On many decors, there's just no way to put a pair of B&W 800 or even Kef R11 without visually messing up the whole room, and that's just one simple example of how all these "lifestyle" products are great.
But there's a lot of compromises with them, not only in performance, but also on how long they will last before the buyer has to throw away the whole system, because it is a closed system.
To me, that's also a part of the whole value of any product.

I heard something years ago that the easiest way to find the best place for your sub is to put the sub at your seating location, then you go and sit on the floor in the locations where you want to put the sub/think you’ll put the sub, whichever location sounds best is where you should put the sub. I can’t remember if you should do something like flip the phase while it is in your seating position, maybe it doesn’t matter?

It may be amazing! I'm always getting told off for having huge speakers in the house. If I could a smaller system that performed it would be in my basket!
Personally, bass is the foundation to an amazing cinema with clean infrasonics. With the sony sub and only the ability to only have 1, I couldn't go back to a single shallow bass sub.
It's only the future for people wanting to upgrade from a soundbar or a mid/tier 5.1.
And yes they will probably make lots of sales but thays because its marketed to the general consumer thats 99% of the market, not an audiophile that is 1%.

The big, overlooked, advantage of this kind of setup; if you ever want to move your room around, these are flexible. A full fitted, hardwired, in ceiling, atmos reciever system is not. For this reason, I went with a 990c..swapped out from a dual sub reciever system..and I'm never looking back. By the time im ready to upgrade the Samsung, these quad systems are seeming to shine. Though, at the time, I wasn't keen enough on the HT-A9.

What will happen if you buy 2 Bravia Theater Quads and connect them both with a hdmi cable that splits from 1 (arc) in to 2 (Bravia theater quad) or something connected that can run both systems at the same time.
Because now in theory you would have 8.2 without the center. 🤔

When this product was announced I was excited for it, but when I saw they only included 1 HDMI input again, I had to look at the Samsung Q990D as I now need the extra HDMI 2.1 input. eARC isn't always great depending on the handshake between the source and the TV and Sony's own TVs have limited number of HDMI 2.1 inputs compared to their competitors like Samsung and LG.

With the 360 feature on at higher volumes is there any hissing sounds from the speakers? I ask as I have the ES STR-AZ500ES and when I am listening at louder levels (not crazy levels like -20 not 0) there is some hissing that occurs unless you turn off 360 and it goes away. My room is an odd shape and smaller so thinking about getting the Quad to keep good sound and clean up some space to make things nicer. But the hissing would be a big deciding factor.

One reason people are concerned with software compatibility/support, and firmware updates are some of what Sonos has pulled over the years, creating sitations where functional harware becomes unfunctional and obsolete simply due to software support, so it isn't a completely unfounded concern. That said, Sony probably knows better and with the A9 being a relativly closed ecosystem, it should function once set up, even if the app no longer supports it or lack of updates hit it.

Nakamichi drafon bro!!! For sure! Listen, Nakamichi is big and bulky but MASSIVE sound. If you want elegance and lighter speakers go for the sony quad. I have listened to both and i would say this, if you have a small room or small living room the go for the quad, if your living room has a big couch then go for nakamichi dragon. But listen, you will only hear the difference when you have higher volume. If you want the cinema vibe you should buy nakamichi, if you want a great nice speakersystem that gives you lots of joy but not the full experience go for the quad. The difference is like making a comparison of the macbook air (sony the quad) and the macbook pro (nakimichi). Macbook pro, bulky, worse batterylife, heavier, but more power, macbook air is light, better battery life but much less power. So it depends. If you want the cinema super immersive big sound go for nakamichi, if you want refind light and good sound but with little bit of limitation then the quad will be super. But one thing you shouldnt forget is thar nakamichi takes alot of place it looks very ugly. If your living room looks fancy, buy the quad. If your livivng room is bigger and bulky and maybe not so fancy looking and you want the power go for nakimichi.
