Just now watching this vid. No need to apologize for any of your implement purchases Tim. This is still America LOL. I for one enjoy watching new things and how they work or not work. Keep up the good work and great content. God bless.
Nice vid, Love the scripture, well done.... May GOD BLESS us all....
I've been planting sweetcorn in my back garden in London (UK), it's nice to see you folks doing the same on the other side of the Atlantic
Planter.... If it brings a smile to your face. Awesome! no harm no foul.
Love that planter. I want a 2 row.
Just is something about planting that makes the heart feel good...I still have to wait a bit yet. God bless
Great camera view,, love the rear tiller.
That is such a cool planter. You have it because it’s enjoyable to you. All that counts. And I hope you had a Happy Birthday!
Tim enjoyed the planter putting the seed in the soil. The anticipation of how long it will take to come up, and the joy of seeing the first shoots breaking the soil surface has alway been a treet that I never tire of. Thank you and your wife for the happy memories.
That looks like one of the JD Max Emerge planters sawed down to one row. Very neat. I'm keeping our old JD 7000 series corn planter with the Hope's of making these one of these days.
I tell ya Tim in my opinion the planting tec. of that era of planters is the best. We have a six row and we always get a great stand. I'm very impressed with that tagline tiller it looks like a beast. I think your dirt perfect for planting, I like it when it's like walking on the moon. You did right by being patient.
Happy Birthday Tim, love watching your videos whilst in lockdown in New Zealand!
Happy Birthday Tim! We share the same birthday. Really enjoy all your videos. God Bless!
Your planter logic makes perfect sense to me. When I get ready to plant corn, I would like to do the same thing. Looks predictable and easy to duplicate somewhere else and/or for someone else.
A beautiful day for a Birthday. Sunshine and planting in the garden.. The dirt looks so much better without last years continuous rain.
Happy Birthday Tim. You just keep doing what you do, the way you want to do it. I just feel blessed to be able to check out what you fine folks are up to every now and then, Thanks for the videos
Never overkill, it’s your garden, your equipment.
Like the instruction you give and trying difference methods with the tiller. Can’t wait to see how the corn turns out!!!!
14:13 In 75 days we'll still be in "corn"tine!
Happy Birthday TIM
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIM
Good work
You have great soil Tim. Here where I live it's clay unless you are in bottom land. When we farmed we plowed in the fall and used a disc harrow in the spring. My grandfather had a saying that if you plowed wet ground in the spring you would roll clods the rest of the year. He was right. Now everyone no-till's. I've found out that with our clay you can roto-till the soil too fine and the ground will crust over impeding the seed coming up. Thanks for your videos. I appreciate really them.
You can only wait so long for the ground to dry. Wait too long and winter will come before the crops are ready.
Happy birthday Tim!
Happy Birthday Tim! celebrating by planting some corn. I just got half of my corn in this weekend plan on planting more in a few weeks to space out the harvest.
Great to see you in the field again Tim and Christy. What a difference a year makes. We are finding that too up here in Minnesota.
What part of Minnesota are you in. Morris here
I love the planter. Nothing like doing it the way dad or grandpa do
No such thing as overkill if you're having fun. Happy birthday Tim.
What a birthday present! Planting sweet corn. Happy Birthday!
That is great you are able to "farm like your dad"! Keep up the fun! Take Care!
Good job Timmy!
Absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to use a planter like that. “Because dad does it that way” is reason enough. There are probably many among us that have a Johnny for similar reasons👍
I was going to comment, but you said it exactly like I was going to.
Well done Friend.
I still have Dad's 8-row 7000 planter, it's overkill to plant my sweetcorn with!
I'd rather find a JD 71 flex planter unit, they have the drive wheel on the row unit and use disk openers like the 7000. Using a plate in sweetcorn isn't that critical, and it keeps everything simple...
Hard to beat a single row or two row 7000!
Happy Birthday! No better way to spend it-on the tractor planting corn😊
Birthday blessings to you Tim! That is a neat planter and they have stood the test of time. Maybe Spring is finally here...
Triple sweet corn, excellent choice Tim , we are it all summer when we were in NY. I am a born and bred farm boy , so have eaten many kinds of corn. Love your videos
Great video. It's cool to see the cats getting involved. We have two cats that always want to "help" out.
Wow I'm jealous, it was spitting snow here in w.Pa today and darn windy. To anyone thinking about a planter I bought a 2 row from Harris last year after Tim got his. I love it, it does a great job and they are great people to work with. They also ship them and it was reasonable.
Looks good
Happy Birthday Tim, been enjoying your channel for years and have learned so much. Tell Kristy for me you can have as many cheeseburgers as you want on your birthday. God bless you both!
Happy B-day Tim! Thanks for the awesome videos!
That really is a nice planter. The cats were really into this episode, I laughed out loud when Mary fell.
I’m with Mary, chicken and corn!
Happy birthday Tim hope you had a great day
Great video Timmy and the to the person behind the camera! Love that 7000 max-emerge planter setup! Nothing better than fresh sweet corn. Nothing better than eating out of your own garden, whatever you grow. Hope your dad keeps his farm in the family.
Happy B-Day Tim..! Hope you had a great day..!
It looks like you had a great time. I hope the corn grows well.
One brave cat lol going up in the tiller keep those videos coming god bless us all
Looks to be high clay content. Easy test:moisten with water and work with your hands: if it feels slimy it's high in clay.
Just need to do a ribbon test. Get soil, moisten (like you said), roll it into a ball, then press it with your index finger and thumb into a ribbon. If the ribbon gets more than about 2ish inches it’s pretty high clay content. If you drag your thumb on the ribbon after you make it and it’s shiny, it’s clay and if it’s feathery looking it’s more so a clay-loam.
@@tylermartin4726 i know it's now the subject of the video.
But what amendments do you add to lessen the %% of clay. Iowa, my yard has high clay too.
John Jacob JinglehimerSchmidt to improve drainage in your yard and the health of your grass, maybe try aerating it and then top dressing it with sand. This is a common practice used by golf courses to improve rooting and grass health. After top dressing it with sand you use a broom to help the sand into the holes produced by the aerator.
it's a very strange soil, iv'e never seen anything like it, i wrote to tim : your soil seems to have large sand grains, or large volcanic grains, that would explain not powdering. i don't know why it stays wet, it must be wicking up from below, or your not much above river height ?
Happy birthday, Tim. Hope you have a wonderful day. Hoping to get some corn planted this week.
Tim , I loved seeing the tractor and the planter doing their thing, nice video, in muy ground Bodacious does well. 👍
Another great episode of Tractor Time With Tim.
Top job as always, Tim & Christie. I can taste that sweet corn already!
Hi Tim and Christy nice job and in 75 days you will have beautiful sweet corn freash from your Garden to the table you just cant beat it it will taste better than any sweet corn you can buy in a store the best of luck with it
I love your channel and I'm a cattle farmer in Indiana
Sounds good, Tommy!
Great video Tim happy birthday have a great day be safe and stay healthy.
Oh boy! I sure hope I didn't jump on planting corn to early. I was following Farmers almanac Tim!! April 6 the I think I put seed in ground. I also planted potatoes!! Have watched it and seen corn has germinated. It's still in ground. It's frosted a few times here and looking like again this Eve. I know it's not a big planting but sure would be nice to get two crops as you speak of. I love that planter!!
can't imagine it needs much water as cold as it has been. If it sprouted a long while ago and is not yet up, I would not be encouraged. I'm afraid a replant might be in order!
@@TractorTimewithTim I'm afraid your right. Got me thinking
Happy birthday
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Tim!
Good stuff! Thank you. Love the nosy cats😂
Happy birthday Tim!
Tim might I suggest getting a drag, it’s perfect for covering seed, no mechanical parts to fail, just heavy iron teeth. Makes a field or patch look awesome.
Best drag grandpa ever had was an old panel farm gate, ran one behind the harrows for years.
Happy belated birthday Tim! The cats are a riot. Did you guys ever have dogs? A puppy would love running around in your property.
Happy birthday Tim!!
Thank you for all of your great videos. Tons of great in depth information. After watching all 8 of you john deere vs kubota videos I decided on my own Johnnie. Took delivery of it tonight. Thanks again for the videos.
Congratulations!
Hello Tim Sure hope you shoot some Video of getting your corn to Harvest . Would be nice the final staging of picking.
I identify with you because I want everything small, because my farm is really small... I wish you were my neighbor
Happy Birthday Tim! Enjoyed the video this morning over coffee. Hoping you can do regular updates on the garden as the corn grows through to harvest for us. All the best !
I’ll try. It gets kinda boring as there is not much action on it until harvest.
The kitty!
Happy Birthday 🎂 Tim
Loved this video Tim! What a nice tiller! And the planter is Awesome!
Well Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday🎂 Tim!🍔
Happy belated Birthday Tim
I plant usually 10+ rows of sweet corn - each row is about 60 feet long. I use an earthway-precision-garden-seeder. Rows can be spaced to 30+ inches and I can plant all the rows in about five minutes. For those who want a good planter and save some money consider those - about $125... The soil you have there sure looks heavy. Best wishes on a good harvest, Tim...
I am not happy with the results from the earth way planter.
1) it does not do a good job of seed placement. You may get 0,1,2 or 3 seeds in each ‘cup’ in the plate.
2) there is no way to change the population.
3) the wimpy ‘chain’ is useless as a covering implement.
Probably the best you can do for $100, but not very impressive.
@@TractorTimewithTim I've had a similar model for nearly 30 years.. I found that, by slowing down forward speed and keeping the hopper at least 1/4 full, I get quite consistent plantings.. If by chance an extra seed drops down it's not often and when plants get about 4" high it's easy to see any that need yanking out.. For the cost - it's worked well so far.. I also use it for snap beans etc..
Merry like oh chickens
75 days the racoon will be happy too LOL. Looks like the plowing helped dry the ground out. Can't wait to see the projects you have planned for this year. Great video and God Bless
Oh no! Our electric fence works wonders to keep them out!
@@TractorTimewithTim but they have to eat to 😞😞😞 LOL
Happy birthday hope you had a great day!
Great video! Thanks for sharing❗❗❗ 🙂🙂🙂 👍👍👍
Farmers put nitrogen on during planting as a pre-emerge fertilizer then side dress when the corn reaches the proper growth stage when the corn needs the nitrogen the most. Nitrogen is highly mobile in the soil so it’s best to wait because if you you apply it all now everything the newly germinated corn can’t use will wash through the soil column and no longer be available when it needs it (coming from someone who lives on a 2300 acre corn and soybean farm and has a bachelors in agriculture (mix of agronomy and at business)).
Happy BD Tim! Looks like that soil needs more composted material & some sand. Save all those leaves & grass clippings you get from the vacuum system that you have & spread them out on there in the fall.
Soil quality is phenomenal! It is just different to work with from what I’m used to.
I've often thought gauge wheels would be a worthwhile addition to a 3 point tiller
Dad's old one had a wheel, I wonder why they don't have them anymore?
Hey, Happy Birthday Tim!
Thanks Christy and Tim! You make me want to get back into gardening. I don't use much anymore, Sons have Families now and moved out but it still interests me. Great vid as always.
We specifically focus on easy to maintain/ harvest crops. Sweet corn tastes SO good from the garden, and feels like real farming.
...and I love to watch potatoes grow!
We avoid crops which are ‘difficult’ or time consuming.
Green Acres is the place to be!
I love sweet corn! I wish I was there with you to share your bounty.
I've been watching a lot of farmer channels lately and it is a little different to see them pull a 34 foot planter with a 400 hp tractor to what you are doing. :)
Best of luck!
Happy birthday! Mine was on Friday the 17th!
Happy Birthday!
Try to adjust your 3 point hitch lowering speed under your seat, might help to keep the tiller from going up and down with the tractor. Thanks for all your hard work Tim.
Thanks Tim, another great video
Don’t worry about the soil lumps just get on with seeding once u test soil temperature
Love that planter .
TIMMY! 3" is the perfect depth for corn to get the best yield.
Scared me when the cat climbed in by the tiller😮
We wouldn’t have started the tiller with the cat under it.
Tractor Time with Tim oh I know you wouldn’t... it was just a surprise 😁
Happy Birthday!!!
Happy Birthday.
Happy Birthday Tim! Your garden looks awesome, love that tiller and planter!
Happy Birthday! I'm still waiting for my garden to dry out enough. The lower end of mine looks like a little pond right now :/
Hello, love your videos is the soil warm enough where you live right now. Here in western pa we don’t plant till around Memorial Day give or take week or two and I live around lots of dairy farms so I just wait till I see them planting. Also kudos to you a the planter I’m the same way I actually have a two row Massey Ferguson corn planter with the fertilizer box for side dressing. It does a great job and I only plant like 6 rows of sweet corn also. I do plant some field corn for the deer here like maybe 2ac I also get the looks using the planter in our garden but like you I love it. I grew up around ag farming. I love tilling up the land and planting even though I’m little land owner . Ok keep up the great videos I hope to meet you guys some day maybe at a farm show take care. Chad PS it great to see some one else digging up seed after planting I do the same thing to make sure its doing well ok good day!
Seeing the size of your garden and thinking about how mine is slightly larger and I use a push tiller and plant all by hand. Maybe someday though😂
Might try putting a little gypsum on the garden to see if it will help it to break up better.
Also Tim you need to get a chain dragger to get to be flat then you can use a walk behind tiller
HAPPY BIRTHDAY STAY SAFE
