Avantasia is a German supergroup metal opera project created by Tobias Sammet, vocalist of the band Edguy. It has been characterized as a rock opera, as it features the contributions of various vocalists and musicians and it consists of concept albums. The name is a blend of the words Avalon and fantasia ('fantasy') and describes "a world beyond human imagination" (a quotation from the booklet of the debut album). Conceived in 1999 as studio-only, two-album project, Avantasia has since released seven other studio albums and has toured the world multiple times. It can be divided into four periods of activity. From the most recent record, the 2022 9th album, A Paranormal Evening With the Moonflower Society. Avantasia have a few core members, and invite guest singers and musicians. Some of the other vocalists on this album are Michael Kiske (Helloween), Geoff Tate, Bob Catley (Magnum), and Eric martin (Mr. Big). 🤘🤘
I do not know much about Avantasia but I love this. First heard of the band when I noticed that Arjen Anthony Lucassen wrote some comments about Tobias in the official video of Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down.T
If you haven't yet, I think you should take a stab at Avantasia's Ghost in the Moon. I've often described Avantasia, at least the later albums, only partially jokingly as being Power Metal as written by Meatloaf. Ghost in the Moon is quite literally that.
