Hi Dan, Great video. I'm following it step by step. I'm at the point where I may need to remove the axel. Doesn't seem to flex far enough to remove the strut otherwise. i'm at the point where they cut to the finish. I'm stuck.

You're not alone, this gave me a bit of trouble too. Try to push down on the strut (within reason) and pivot the strut until it clears the wheel well. Best of luck!

What tools did you use? Can you please share link? Also did you have to move the whee steering from inside the car to take the strut out? Did you have to lower the jack? How much?

I used an impact wrench, a metric socket set, a spreader bit, a torque wrench, a spring compressor, two hydraulic jacks, jack stands and wheel chucks. You have to remove the wheel, but the wheel hub does not need full removal from the axle, just the strut. Be careful not to mess up the lines or the axle.

Really great job on it all. Video shows everything too. Except the part where you found out you had to drop the Axle to get the Strut out. LOL. But better safe than sorry right? It Won't come out of the drive train if it drops you don't need to worry about it. But you could tear lines as you pointed out if it just falls out without being careful. Good job as I said.

@@honweb I know this is far too late to be helpful to you but no you shouldn't have to remove the axle to get the strut in and out. Just make sure the hub doesn't drop when you finally get the bottom of the strut free from the clamping mount so no damage will happen to the brake line or other wires.

You installed BIG washer up side down.. Concave side suppose to be down , not up ....Otherwise your mount will not rotate as freely as suppose to be and will damage your mount rubber

Thank you for observing that. I will double check and make a redacted version.

Hey Dan thanks for the informative instructions. What torque spec is the 3/4 strut mount nut that is held with 6mm allen? Thanks, Jeff

Hey Jeff! Glad you enjoyed the video, and thank you for pointing out that missing information. I believe the top nut on the strut gets tightened down to 47 ft-lbs.

I purchased the struts from FCP euro, they are shorter to accommodate the xdrive system. www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-strut-assembly-kit-bilstein-touring-22214294kt?ads_cmpid=20310245653&ads_adid=149238516606&ads_matchtype=&ads_network=g&ads_creative=663535347544&ads_targetid=pla-293946777986&ttv=2&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwrcKxBhBMEiwAIVF8rIQa1Kbf7mZ3o8b28xF7RdjnzqtSW-KxDqhNpfSDuieKBAVvQUNixxoCTU4QAvD_BwE#fitment

@@dangoodman3487okay but is plastic cover can be broken if the car hit deep potholes or drive on uneven road? As far as I know cover dust made from rubber more flexible🤔...is that true?

@@nikmohdrostamniksoh4457 perhaps, I'm not sure. But in either case I recommend using OEM parts or trusted brand aftermarket parts. I bought mine from FCP euro and have no problems.
