You can turn anything into a phylactery so why not a World Class Item. In the game when you die you loose a random item you wear. It might be a feature of his Necromancer build that you can't steal an item you chose as a phylactery.

Could be but World Class Item would not be created to fight against an unknown force. If it's power is to fight against something that's not in the game. It would become useless in game.

its stronger if Ainz/Momonga uses it, -the unique thing about him in yggdrasil is having unlocked overlord eclipse class right? which is uncommon due to it being a role play class and not a pvp one if its Super effective against Dragons then its targetting HP and resistance (high HP/stat and magic resistance is something all dragons share) (another common trait is their love for treasures) -probably insta kills disregarding HP bar and resistances -or the red orb is a dragon trap that lures dragons to touch it If its responsible for about half of enemy kills during the invasion then its a mass AOE spell empowering (the goal of all life is death) -mass AOE insta kill sounds just about the thing that could wipe out that many players
The red orb is actually his Phylactory. In necromantic magic, at least as far as D&D goes, a lich must have a phylactory to anchor it's soul to it's body, and it could be ANYTHING. A crystal orb, for example. Sometimes, the phylactory is kept hidden somewhere safe. Other times, the lich chooses to hide it in his or her body. It depends on the person that turned into a lich.

Someone else in the comments mentioned that it might be a world-item turned by Momonga into a phylactery. That'd be epic. Plus, the web novel quote says that his name in engraved on it. Furthermore, it's possible that a phylactery related special class is in his build. He WAS a hardcore lich role-player. It makes perfect sense for him to go for that, and we still don't know about all of his Job and Racial levels. Edit: Plus, this world item being turned into a Phylactery would not only not go against the other theories for the Red Orb's effects, but it would also very likely bound it to Momonga, thus making sure that he doesn't lose it. As for what the effect of the Red Orb could be, I'm hesitating between "Orb of Dragonkind" and the "Spear of Annihilation"(which could be instead just named the Orb of Annihilation in Overlord for copyright reasons).
Another interesting thing about this can be correlated from how the Wish Upon a Star spell changed in the New World. What if the role-play element of Phylacteries(which in-game might maybe only give an additional location to re-spawn from) might end up become changed as well. That could mean that Ainz could potentially revive with all of his levels, should he die. After all, actual Phylacteries have the purpose of reviving the being bound to it, reconstructing that being without any loss in power. That's the entire point of it. On the other hand, there could still be a way for Ainz to lose some levels (and a way to gain them back with Mare's world item) if he uses Red Orb since it's been mentioned in the web novel that using it for its world item effects uses exp/levels.
When you realize that the design of his robe emphasizes the orb, and his paldrens/mantle has additional orbs for symmetry. There's a certain poetry to his presentation as guild leader.

I always thought of it like a philosophers stone. It’s a pure red orb that sacrifices exp and lvls (revealed in the 10th light novel) to use powerful effects and spells.
So basically similar to Ulbert Alain Odle's World Diaster class? But instead of sacrific of MP, it sacrifices exp and lvls. It makes sense why Ainz didn't use it in the fight against Shalltear.

my ideas so far for the orb of ainz ooal gown it can also be any combination of these ideas 1) phylactery / a core or heart of a lich to tie its soul to a physical body 2) mass undead army / an army of which only an undead can rule / which only a chaotic set character can wield 3) a world item that is bound to him / is more powerful when he uses it / that only he can use 4) it may be capable of enhancing spells / holding a spell / being a unique spell that can wipe out nearly the entire battlefield 5) the orb of dragon kind from D&D / capable of imprisoning / killing / mind controlling dragons ( primarily ) or any new world denizens 6) an item the guild were rewarded for inspiring people to kill them or in other words advertising the game ( long shot ) / was a reward for lord touch me that he gave to his guild / guild leader since lord touch me was a world champion who puts others before himself ( also a long shot ) 7) a natural protection from other world items 8) as a fellow commenter stated a world item that defends him from any mainline magic or force that inhabits that world / known universe / plain of existence such as the force from star wars or maybe even hamone from jojo parts 1 and 2 9) a custom world item ( thus the engraved name ) that the specific capabilities / restrictions are unknown 10) a banana idk running out of ideas here

I think the red orb is a literal nuke, it explodes in a huge area and kills everyone caught in the radius. I think since there is already a mind control item and items generally the don't have many effects that don't synergize with each other. The way its effective against dragons is that the damage pierces armor, pure raw damage is generally op in games because it bipases the balance of the games defense and I feel dragons across history are presented as having hard scales, so high armor but squishy interior, so low hp.
In D&D Dragons came from another plane, their own world, in which chromatic dragons (red, green, black, yellow and etc) are evil ones and metallic (silver, platinum, golden, bronze and etc) are good ones. So it does make sense why Ainz has yellow dragon under his control. And why platinum dragon may not be subdued
Well i’m a bit late but I think it may be a world item that is spawned by his specific character build. We know his build is more for role playing as a god of death using instakill and summons primarily, which made him lack firepower in comparison to people like ulbert and tabula. Maybe the red orb, like TGOALID is a product of this incredibly uncommon and potentially underpowered build as a way to bridge the gap. After all it is stated to have multiple powers to choose from and use. In the web novel it was used to wipe out part of the 1500 member raid on Nazarick so one power could be something like grand catastrophe by ulbert, or it could be used to deal extra damage to or control dragons, or it could be used to buff his skills or spells to a greater degree, and doing these things may cost experience points. He may have also not used it outside of Nazarick due to his paranoid nature and fear of others copying his build and obtaining this item as well. The red orb being an item spawned from his build may also explain why Momonga’s name is on it and can’t be changed. Since there are so few world items known it may be entirely possible for items like this to exist as a result of unknown character builds because of the potentially limitless combinations. But who knows it could just be a phlactery type of item as well.

My guess is it has a delayed insta kill effect that bypasses all resistances. The delay might be why he has no use for it in most pvp fights since the charge up would just make any knowledgeable opponents move out of range immediately while an invading force stuck and unable to easily retreat on 8th floor of nazarick would be unable to evade that one shot kill that has a high cool down.
If its analogous to a certain orb in D&D , one that lures dragons to be killed.. it is at least sentient , malevolent , and very very dangerous. Its activation an use absorbs the sum total of the users attention, rendering them vulnerable for a time. it would explain, why it is never used. it takes time to activate, total concentration to use, and it will try and trap you if you use it. For Momonga who was playing support, it fits.
The item is imune to the magic of other world items/wild magik, but is it posibel to modefy the magic insidee it?, eks. grants the wilder accsess to wild macik?

If we follow the web novel to the extent it went, it has his name engraved on it, the world item is literally his, no one elses. It might be his phylactery given his being a lich. And the other spells may include spells unique to the world item, like it being a nuke.
Little correction on the Shalltear/Aura situation. Ainz would have still won, as he was hesitant to kill Shalltear for fear of no ressurections. He hesitated in crushing it, but decided to follow through right as Shalltear recoiled at Aura's presence behind her. Regardless of Aura's interference Ainz could have crushed the cash hourglass faster than Shalltear's pipet lance could have landed a hit to interrupt the spell.
@@Vezoth56 It's just timing, Shalltear's attack wasn't launched at the time. Place them side by side and in the time it would have taken her to go from having it ready to launching at him would be comparable to the amount of time it takes him to compose himself and actually crush it, so at worst they'd hit at the same time

Perhaps the red orb is actually a soul gem. In dnd it is said that to become a lich, you have to bind your soul to a soul gem in order to keep existing.

I have a question, if Ainz knows over 700 different spells how many overlap with each other. There have to be some redundant spells that do essentially the same thing but in different ways. If not, his spell reservoir is insane!!!
Most of them are random conjuration spells, where he can make one specific type of food item. Or at least that is how i would imagine most of them are. So maybe 200 or something is actually useful
That’s true, doesn’t he have a series of spells called aura where each subsequent level of the spell would effect you more severely than the last? Something along the lines of lvl one will induce fear and you have to save against running away in terror, lvl 2 induced madness and you have to save against going insane, and lvl 3 causes death and you have to save against instantly dying on the spot (unless he has Goal of all life is death activated then you’re just screwed!)
The Boss ah yes, your description sounds more accurate, I knew it was something along those lines. I wonder if his trump card ability “TGoaLiD” would negate the lvl debuff on his highest tier death aura spell or not. Interesting to theory-craft how it would effect his many different instant death abilities such as his “true death” touch ability and the like. We saw how powerful it was when he paired it with his cry of the banshee instant death spell it even killed the air and ground lol!!!
@@oxtailsoup6493 being of higher level doesn't grant you immunity to instant death spells, but having higher geared character means you have more data crystal slots which grant yhou passive bonuses such as time stop counter measures and immunity to insteant death abilities. However if he uses his TGoaLiD ability non of these are effected however its effects are not appliable to world bosses for understandable reasons.
I have a feeling its like the orb Zurananon had that was used to raise undead, but it is a world item version of that with more than the power to raise the dead? Like the red ball is constantly glowing red and Zurananon's glowed red slightly. Or alternatively it is a World Item that has an extremely long cooldown and couldn't be used again for a long while. Even though we don't know when the war with the hundreds or thousands of players(Or I just don't know.) there might be a certain requirement to activate it too, like it has to be in the prescence of more than 50 players or so. Also speaking of the undead thing, what if the orb becomes more powerful the more evil the person is? Or it is like the orb Zurananon had and it only can reach its full potential when an actual undead wields it and it consistently becomes more powerful?
Have YGDRASI bekom a world lv-item (1 ore 9)? Have the ygdrasil materialised lika an ash tree whit access to the 9 worlds of ygdrasil (gameworld + the resources and materials)?
Liches in DnD store their soul in phylacteries to avoid death. When the phylactery is destroyed, the lich is destroyed as well. It's basically a Horcrux. So it might be his phylactery, which does not necessarily mean it isn't a world item. Maby phylacteries are equipable items for liches in Yggdrasil like trinkets are in many MMOs for the player character, and Ainz has a world item version..... Just an Idea. Quick Theory. It also might be a regular world item turned into a phylactery, not a phylactery that is a world item, to begin with. Thus whenever it is used, Ainz will be spawned right next to it when he dies, thus keeping it permanently in his possession. So it is a very good escape item, with an incredible on use effect and would only be used when Ainz knows his demise is neigh.
I thought the idea of a phylactery was to hide it in a place that would be hard for someone to find. Doesn't having a phylactery on your actual body kind of defeat the purpose of hiding the very vessel that contains your soul?

P XIII ok, you got me there with the indestructible phylactery theory. But coming from a strict DnD perspective, carrying around your phylactery on your body as a Litch would be akin to suicide. The lengths that some of the more powerful litches go to to hide, boobytrap, guard, and otherwise secret away their phylacteries are astounding.

In D&D powerful undead wizards are known as a lich, I believe Aniz is a lich, all liches have a thing called a phylactery which they feed souls too to feed and if the lich were to die as long as the phylactery was fine the lich would come back to life. So maybe the orb is Aniz phylactery?
In AD&D (At least before 5th Edition) There was an Orb of Dragonkind for each of the chromatic Colored Dragons. The Metallic Dragons and Great Wyrms did not have an Orb that mirrored their powers. If it is, then it's a Red Dragon Orb and limited to granting him Fire based spells, like Fireball and Wall of Fire.
In 2e book of artifacts there was 12 orbs each for different age category of the dragon there was 12 Plus after the chromatic and metallic dragons there was shadow and cloud dragon orbs. Of course d&d has over 100 dragons so not a orb for all

i mean u made the point that he didn’t use it in shaltears battle (which he would have lost) maybe it activates on death as an the reason he doesn’t rely on it is because there is a catch maybe it brings him down to lvl 1 but is a system where everytime he gets to lvl 1 he gains an something like extra stat points. or maybe its not a world class item but a higher class that ains cannot comprehend consisting of multiple abilities.

There is certainly a lot more that could have gone wrong during the fight between Ainz and Shalltear than just Ainz hesitating. For example, Ainz admitted later on in the series that if Shalltear had fought properly, Ainz would have had to run away. Had Shalltear fought properly, Ainz would have lost even with all of his buffs and planning.

staff of ainz ooal gown was better than most world items, so maybe the orb is a world item. not sure if it can break items, but ainz has a spell that can break items. Ainz was able to break the item on Nfirea Bareare head and save the young man.
greater break item is the upper level of the break item on which it can only destroy item that are divine tier and bellow, and btw, players can't create an item that would be the same nor on par with the world item since the amount of data crystal to create such an item is limited.

I agree with you, and I would even go a bit further and say that there isn't really any connection between the spear of annihilation and Ratatoskr. The whole argument which he made sounds as plausible as Tabula Smaragdina creating himself a body using Rubedo because the Emerald Tablet (Also known as Tabula Smaragdina) contains the instructions for the Philosopher's stone, which Voldermort tried to use to create a body for himself. From what I can see, most of the video seems to be focused on deception and speculation.

-the unique thing about him in yggdrasil is having unlocked overlord eclipse class right? which is uncommon due to it being a role play class and not a pvp one
if its Super effective against Dragons then its targetting HP and resistance (high HP/stat and magic resistance is something all dragons share) (another common trait is their love for treasures)
-probably insta kills disregarding HP bar and resistances
-or the red orb is a dragon trap that lures dragons to touch it
If its responsible for about half of enemy kills during the invasion then its a mass AOE spell empowering (the goal of all life is death)
-mass AOE insta kill sounds just about the thing that could wipe out that many players

The red orb is actually his Phylactory. In necromantic magic, at least as far as D&D goes, a lich must have a phylactory to anchor it's soul to it's body, and it could be ANYTHING. A crystal orb, for example. Sometimes, the phylactory is kept hidden somewhere safe. Other times, the lich chooses to hide it in his or her body. It depends on the person that turned into a lich.
It is already confirmed his WCI in the Evileye side story.

Someone else in the comments mentioned that it might be a world-item turned by Momonga into a phylactery. That'd be epic. Plus, the web novel quote says that his name in engraved on it.
Furthermore, it's possible that a phylactery related special class is in his build. He WAS a hardcore lich role-player. It makes perfect sense for him to go for that, and we still don't know about all of his Job and Racial levels.
Edit: Plus, this world item being turned into a Phylactery would not only not go against the other theories for the Red Orb's effects, but it would also very likely bound it to Momonga, thus making sure that he doesn't lose it.
As for what the effect of the Red Orb could be, I'm hesitating between "Orb of Dragonkind" and the "Spear of Annihilation"(which could be instead just named the Orb of Annihilation in Overlord for copyright reasons).
Another interesting thing about this can be correlated from how the Wish Upon a Star spell changed in the New World.
What if the role-play element of Phylacteries(which in-game might maybe only give an additional location to re-spawn from) might end up become changed as well.
That could mean that Ainz could potentially revive with all of his levels, should he die. After all, actual Phylacteries have the purpose of reviving the being bound to it, reconstructing that being without any loss in power. That's the entire point of it.
On the other hand, there could still be a way for Ainz to lose some levels (and a way to gain them back with Mare's world item) if he uses Red Orb since it's been mentioned in the web novel that using it for its world item effects uses exp/levels.

3) a world item that is bound to him / is more powerful when he uses it / that only he can use
4) it may be capable of enhancing spells / holding a spell / being a unique spell that can wipe out nearly the entire battlefield
5) the orb of dragon kind from D&D / capable of imprisoning / killing / mind controlling dragons ( primarily ) or any new world denizens
6) an item the guild were rewarded for inspiring people to kill them or in other words advertising the game ( long shot ) / was a reward for lord touch me that he gave to his guild / guild leader since lord touch me was a world champion who puts others before himself ( also a long shot )

I think the red orb is a literal nuke, it explodes in a huge area and kills everyone caught in the radius.
I think since there is already a mind control item and items generally the don't have many effects that don't synergize with each other.
The way its effective against dragons is that the damage pierces armor, pure raw damage is generally op in games because it bipases the balance of the games defense and I feel dragons across history are presented as having hard scales, so high armor but squishy interior, so low hp.

In D&D Dragons came from another plane, their own world, in which chromatic dragons (red, green, black, yellow and etc) are evil ones and metallic (silver, platinum, golden, bronze and etc) are good ones.
So it does make sense why Ainz has yellow dragon under his control. And why platinum dragon may not be subdued
Well i’m a bit late but I think it may be a world item that is spawned by his specific character build. We know his build is more for role playing as a god of death using instakill and summons primarily, which made him lack firepower in comparison to people like ulbert and tabula. Maybe the red orb, like TGOALID is a product of this incredibly uncommon and potentially underpowered build as a way to bridge the gap. After all it is stated to have multiple powers to choose from and use. In the web novel it was used to wipe out part of the 1500 member raid on Nazarick so one power could be something like grand catastrophe by ulbert, or it could be used to deal extra damage to or control dragons, or it could be used to buff his skills or spells to a greater degree, and doing these things may cost experience points. He may have also not used it outside of Nazarick due to his paranoid nature and fear of others copying his build and obtaining this item as well. The red orb being an item spawned from his build may also explain why Momonga’s name is on it and can’t be changed. Since there are so few world items known it may be entirely possible for items like this to exist as a result of unknown character builds because of the potentially limitless combinations. But who knows it could just be a phlactery type of item as well.

My guess is it has a delayed insta kill effect that bypasses all resistances. The delay might be why he has no use for it in most pvp fights since the charge up would just make any knowledgeable opponents move out of range immediately while an invading force stuck and unable to easily retreat on 8th floor of nazarick would be unable to evade that one shot kill that has a high cool down.

If we follow the web novel to the extent it went, it has his name engraved on it, the world item is literally his, no one elses. It might be his phylactery given his being a lich. And the other spells may include spells unique to the world item, like it being a nuke.

Little correction on the Shalltear/Aura situation. Ainz would have still won, as he was hesitant to kill Shalltear for fear of no ressurections. He hesitated in crushing it, but decided to follow through right as Shalltear recoiled at Aura's presence behind her. Regardless of Aura's interference Ainz could have crushed the cash hourglass faster than Shalltear's pipet lance could have landed a hit to interrupt the spell.
Can you quote where it's stated that Ainz would have had enough time to smash the hourglass even after he hesitated if Aura hadn't done anything?

Place them side by side and in the time it would have taken her to go from having it ready to launching at him would be comparable to the amount of time it takes him to compose himself and actually crush it, so at worst they'd hit at the same time

Perhaps the red orb is actually a soul gem. In dnd it is said that to become a lich, you have to bind your soul to a soul gem in order to keep existing.

I have a question, if Ainz knows over 700 different spells how many overlap with each other. There have to be some redundant spells that do essentially the same thing but in different ways. If not, his spell reservoir is insane!!!
Most of them are random conjuration spells, where he can make one specific type of food item. Or at least that is how i would imagine most of them are. So maybe 200 or something is actually useful
That’s true, doesn’t he have a series of spells called aura where each subsequent level of the spell would effect you more severely than the last? Something along the lines of lvl one will induce fear and you have to save against running away in terror, lvl 2 induced madness and you have to save against going insane, and lvl 3 causes death and you have to save against instantly dying on the spot (unless he has Goal of all life is death activated then you’re just screwed!)

I wonder if his trump card ability “TGoaLiD” would negate the lvl debuff on his highest tier death aura spell or not. Interesting to theory-craft how it would effect his many different instant death abilities such as his “true death” touch ability and the like.
We saw how powerful it was when he paired it with his cry of the banshee instant death spell it even killed the air and ground lol!!!
@@oxtailsoup6493 being of higher level doesn't grant you immunity to instant death spells, but having higher geared character means you have more data crystal slots which grant yhou passive bonuses such as time stop counter measures and immunity to insteant death abilities. However if he uses his TGoaLiD ability non of these are effected however its effects are not appliable to world bosses for understandable reasons.
I have a feeling its like the orb Zurananon had that was used to raise undead, but it is a world item version of that with more than the power to raise the dead? Like the red ball is constantly glowing red and Zurananon's glowed red slightly. Or alternatively it is a World Item that has an extremely long cooldown and couldn't be used again for a long while. Even though we don't know when the war with the hundreds or thousands of players(Or I just don't know.) there might be a certain requirement to activate it too, like it has to be in the prescence of more than 50 players or so.
Also speaking of the undead thing, what if the orb becomes more powerful the more evil the person is? Or it is like the orb Zurananon had and it only can reach its full potential when an actual undead wields it and it consistently becomes more powerful?

Liches in DnD store their soul in phylacteries to avoid death. When the phylactery is destroyed, the lich is destroyed as well. It's basically a Horcrux.
So it might be his phylactery, which does not necessarily mean it isn't a world item. Maby phylacteries are equipable items for liches in Yggdrasil like trinkets are in many MMOs for the player character, and Ainz has a world item version.....

It also might be a regular world item turned into a phylactery, not a phylactery that is a world item, to begin with.
Thus whenever it is used, Ainz will be spawned right next to it when he dies, thus keeping it permanently in his possession. So it is a very good escape item, with an incredible on use effect and would only be used when Ainz knows his demise is neigh.
I thought the idea of a phylactery was to hide it in a place that would be hard for someone to find. Doesn't having a phylactery on your actual body kind of defeat the purpose of hiding the very vessel that contains your soul?

In D&D powerful undead wizards are known as a lich, I believe Aniz is a lich, all liches have a thing called a phylactery which they feed souls too to feed and if the lich were to die as long as the phylactery was fine the lich would come back to life. So maybe the orb is Aniz phylactery?

In AD&D (At least before 5th Edition) There was an Orb of Dragonkind for each of the chromatic Colored Dragons. The Metallic Dragons and Great Wyrms did not have an Orb that mirrored their powers. If it is, then it's a Red Dragon Orb and limited to granting him Fire based spells, like Fireball and Wall of Fire.
In 2e book of artifacts there was 12 orbs each for different age category of the dragon there was 12
Plus after the chromatic and metallic dragons there was shadow and cloud dragon orbs.

i mean u made the point that he didn’t use it in shaltears battle (which he would have lost) maybe it activates on death as an the reason he doesn’t rely on it is because there is a catch maybe it brings him down to lvl 1 but is a system where everytime he gets to lvl 1 he gains an something like extra stat points. or maybe its not a world class item but a higher class that ains cannot comprehend consisting of multiple abilities.
The red orb is rubedo. After all it's a red philosophers stone like gem which coincides with rubedo's names origin.
Ainz would've lost against Shaltear only cuz he hesitated, had he not hesitated he would've won even without Aura's help.
And even if he did hesitate, there is no saying that Shaltear would have won anyway

There is certainly a lot more that could have gone wrong during the fight between Ainz and Shalltear than just Ainz hesitating. For example, Ainz admitted later on in the series that if Shalltear had fought properly, Ainz would have had to run away. Had Shalltear fought properly, Ainz would have lost even with all of his buffs and planning.

greater break item is the upper level of the break item on which it can only destroy item that are divine tier and bellow, and btw, players can't create an item that would be the same nor on par with the world item since the amount of data crystal to create such an item is limited.

I agree with you, and I would even go a bit further and say that there isn't really any connection between the spear of annihilation and Ratatoskr. The whole argument which he made sounds as plausible as Tabula Smaragdina creating himself a body using Rubedo because the Emerald Tablet (Also known as Tabula Smaragdina) contains the instructions for the Philosopher's stone, which Voldermort tried to use to create a body for himself.
