You must be mistaken! The season prior to the WC 2022, he was still playing at the second Bundesliga. Which wouldn't have made him a real candidate for the World Cup. He's really a late bloomer and by now has only played two good seasons (he still didn't reach the 20+ goal mark at the Bundesliga. So even though he was performing well, he didn't "go through the roof". He was often used as an example for the current situation/downfall of German football: "The best striker we can come up with is a 30 year old player, who played in the second Bundesliga just 1-2 seasons before." I know that it doesn't sound fair to Füllkrug as a person. But in my opinion it really was a good example of the decline in the class of our national team! As a Dortmund supporter I don't have any hard feelings against Füllkrug and wish him all the best in England. But it's a huge step and West Ham supporters better don't expect any wonders/+15 goals per season on a regular basis by him! Edit: Pardon me! The WC 22 took place in the winter and Füllkrug already played in the first Bundesliga for ½ a season, prior its start.

And whenever he was ready for the next move, injury struck. A hard worker and fast learner with a great instinct. It’s a different thing to score 20 goals vor Everton vs 20 goals for ManCity.

I've been watching and supporting Füllkrug since he was at Werder Bremen. He is powerful and precise. Plus he has a very high ariel duel win rate, perfect penalty technique, buying time by holding the ball with his strength, fine first-touches, rapid flick-ons to team players, acrobatic finishing, directive leadership and top headers. 🙏Thank God he's playing with players like Summerville and Prowse because all he needs is more balls for him to outperform op's and deliver goals! 🦅⚒

As a (German) Dortmund supporter: Don't expect him to make +15 goals in his first season, or in general! He's not a "goalgetter"/scoring machine. He was rather overperforming over the last couple seasons. Don't forget he was playing at the second Bundesliga until his late 20's/2022 (only two seasons ago)! Of course you can call him a "late bloomer". But don't overestimate his abilities. I hope that luck will still be on his side. But you can't expect him to become faster and that his overall skills will improve much. This Füllkrug atm is as best as it gets! Of course I wish him and the Hammers all the best for the next season and that he won't bottle in front of the goal like Timo Werner!* Since Thomas "Hitz the Hammer" (fitting for the club) Hitzlsperger played there I have a weak spot for the club and I really can't stand the other clubs from London! Sadly I don't like the new stadium and that West Ham won the bid. Now Tottenham has the best stadium in the Premier League and We st Ham is left with an athletics stadium. As cool as it looks (from outside it looks just amazing!) and how modern it is. They also should've built a new stadium, on the grounds of the Boleyn. *Werner actually didn't play bad football! He won the UCL in his first season (together with the "German connection of him, Havertz, Rüdiger and Tuchel) . As a regular starter. Including in the final. But never in my life did I witness a player with such bad luck! He could've finished the Prem season with around 20 goals. He seemed cursed by a higher power!

Only Mbappé was worth more (Source: Transfermarkt). The decline of Sancho's value is without comparison in football. You could follow his decline basically on a weekly basis. He peaked at 130 million euros at 11.03.2020 and reached the bottom at 19.12.23. With only f**king 25 million euros! Of course I'm aware that it is also partially his fault. But United just destroyed him and he isn't the only player. When he came back to us, he instantly reached the UCL final! Sure, Haaland is from another planet. But people online directly came with "He only played in a farmer's league before!" and then he went on to "destroy" the Prem. They said the same thing about Lewandowski, who went to Barca the same season. Both instantly became the top scorers of England and Spain. This gave me a little satisfaction as a German! You got a ton of money for a guy with an injury record in his thirties and replaced him with Guirassy, a better younger player for a smaller transfer fee. Füllkrug also isn't necessarily the absolute best fit tactically compared to a Guirassy, who is better at linkup play where Fülle plays a more classic number 9 role. I really like Füllkrug as a footballer and especially as a human being but we have to be objective here, everyone wins with this transfer.

As a german: He is a very cool guy and we love him. If you give him a cross or pass near the goal its likely going in. But not very mobile and others need to do the work. Classic striker

As a (German) Dortmund supporter:
Don't expect him to make +15 goals in his first season, or in general!
He's not a "goalgetter"/scoring machine. He was rather overperforming over the last couple seasons. Don't forget he was playing at the second Bundesliga until his late 20's/2022 (only two seasons ago)!
Of course you can call him a "late bloomer". But don't overestimate his abilities.
I hope that luck will still be on his side. But you can't expect him to become faster and that his overall skills will improve much.

Since Thomas "Hitz the Hammer" (fitting for the club) Hitzlsperger played there I have a weak spot for the club and I really can't stand the other clubs from London! Sadly I don't like the new stadium and that West Ham won the bid. Now Tottenham has the best stadium in the Premier League and We st Ham is left with an athletics stadium. As cool as it looks (from outside it looks just amazing!) and how modern it is. They also should've built a new stadium, on the grounds of the Boleyn.
*Werner actually didn't play bad football! He won the UCL in his first season (together with the "German connection of him, Havertz, Rüdiger and Tuchel) . As a regular starter. Including in the final. But never in my life did I witness a player with such bad luck! He could've finished the Prem season with around 20 goals. He seemed cursed by a higher power!

When we still had Haaland and Sancho on our team, at one point in (I think) 2021, we had 2 out of the most valuable players at our house club!
Only Mbappé was worth more (Source: Transfermarkt).
The decline of Sancho's value is without comparison in football. You could follow his decline basically on a weekly basis. He peaked at 130 million euros at 11.03.2020 and reached the bottom at 19.12.23. With only f**king 25 million euros!
Of course I'm aware that it is also partially his fault. But United just destroyed him and he isn't the only player. When he came back to us, he instantly reached the UCL final!
Sure, Haaland is from another planet. But people online directly came with "He only played in a farmer's league before!" and then he went on to "destroy" the Prem.
They said the same thing about Lewandowski, who went to Barca the same season. Both instantly became the top scorers of England and Spain.

I have no idea why we sold Füllkrug (BVB) and I have really no idea why Füllkrug did not play as a first 11 player during the world cup (he is the best striker we have and way better than harvertz as a striker).

You got a ton of money for a guy with an injury record in his thirties and replaced him with Guirassy, a better younger player for a smaller transfer fee. Füllkrug also isn't necessarily the absolute best fit tactically compared to a Guirassy, who is better at linkup play where Fülle plays a more classic number 9 role. I really like Füllkrug as a footballer and especially as a human being but we have to be objective here, everyone wins with this transfer.
He's one of the most charismatic figures in German modern football. You guys can feel lucky that he choose to move to West Ham.

I've known him for a while since I live in Germany and was so happy to see him sign. I've seen loads of German interviews, so I knew he was humble and down-to-earth. This interview made me love him even more. He was so prepared on club history, praised his teammates and has shown an awareness of critical self-reflexion. I love how chill and funny he is - best combination.
Was unsure before about this transfer but its grown on me and after this interview i hope he smashes it for us next season!
