You know, I had a pedicab in Austin, TX once and he said.. just tip me whatever you want. I thought that was the fairest thing ever. in San Diego, it reminds me of the pedi cabs in Central Park!
I want to add, things are a lot closer than they seem in Gaslamp area so just try walking or take advantage of those annoying scooters! I hate them too (I live in LA) but honestly, they're pretty convenient and $5 seems to get you pretty far. I scooted my way from Logan to Omni hotel (which is at the end of gaslamp!) and it was so much fun.
Yup, when fueling up Costco (or even Sam's Club) is always going to be cheaper than other gas stations if you're into cost-saving. Remember to bring your membership card with ya! I fueled up at the Costco by the new Snapdragon Stadium in MV before leaving for LA. Best fuel station option! GasBuddy will help, too.
Was in San Diego this past end of March through the beginning of May. (Hadn't planned to stay that long.) Found out that if you stay over 30 days in a hotel that taxes aren't charged anymore. (Something to check out for a future video?) Also Gasbuddy and Upside are great gas Apps. We bought a Costco membership while we were there despite not having a Costco in our home city. (They told us they would be building one in a couple of years.) The price of gas was a bit of a shell shock when we arrived but they dropped for awhile and that helped. Love your vids, just wish I had found them before arriving in San Diego. Still going through them. Been coming out here every few years (hubby's a native), so it's been fun watching the changes the city and county have made over the last 25+ years. Keep up the good work. ~db PS: Add Taco Surf in Pacific Beach to your food lists. Great food and huge proportions!
I was with a group of friends in gaslamp after a padres game probably around nineish and we pass by this one bar cover charge of $10 we said nope kept walking circled back around to find another bar another group was at and we pass by same bar cover charge this time? FREE lmao, it had only been 5 minutes
Pedicab experience*** In the middle of the day I was sitting on a bench, not going anywhere in particular. My husband was working an event in town and I was spending the day by myself. A pedicab guy pulled up and said he was doing a “promotional free ride” and that he was expected to offer some short free rides to people. I told him no thank you and he kept pressuring and pressuring me, telling me we wouldn’t go that far. I actually gave in (I am a very high strung person so I was thinking that maybe I needed to relax a bit and stop being skeptical of everything - yes that was dumb, I know. Just putting you in the context). He started taking me down the street, along the water. He told me to kick my shoes off and put my feet up. Like insisted. I just thought the guy was a hippie or something. He kept asking me questions about where I was from, if I’m married, etc. I didn’t divulge that much information. He stopped a little ways down the street (like a 4-5 min walk) and told me he had to take a picture of me. Don’t ask why I also obliged, it was all happening so fast, I just wanted to not make this man upset so I could leave. In retrospect, he took a picture of me at an angle that I think could see up my shorts. He then grabbed my bare foot and said he wanted to give me a foot rub. To that, I immediately rejected and got out. Again, it all happened so fast that I didn’t have time to process what this man was trying to do! Thankfully I’m okay. But somewhere he has a picture of me on his phone…. Ladies, you can’t be too careful. If you think you’re stuck up, high strung, or prudent- it’s okay. 😅
OMG THE CD thing happened to me ! Three huge ass dudes forcibly put discs into my hands and asked me to give a donation. I gave one of em money and then his two friends begged for money too. smh.
I'm here right now. August 2021. I'm here.in pacific beach. Beautiful area. Definitely pricey tho lol. Loaf of bread back home was 2.25. Same Loaf of bread here was 5.00
So cool to find a fellow local RUclipsr, awesome brother!!! I found your channel when i looked up reviews on some local food spots and found the video where you guys were in Paradise hills. 🙌🏻
I'm happy to stay away from doing what everyone else is doing, even at home. I don't care about the "hottest" club or the best chef in town. There's usually a fantastic restaurant two blocks away from the crowds. If I go to the beach, I go in the morning. If anyone approaches me with some pitch or a story, I walk away. If I didn't initiate it, it's not happening. I have fun when I travel because I've found that tourist spots are overrated and mostly ruined by hordes of people loving the place to death. There is a ton of stuff to do that doesn't involve paying a fortune for canned fun. Ask locals what locals like to do, and often the answers you get won't even be in the tourist brochures. Go to SeaWorld if you want, but there's nothing about that attraction that is inherently San Diego. I lived in San Diego for ten years and never once went to Sea World or the wild animal park. San Diego is loaded with non-touristy stuff to do. If you're in Anaheim, sure, go to Disneyland because, well, it's Anaheim. :)
I've had the cd trick been done to me in the Hollywood walk of fame.. I didn't mind the homeless in San Diego they're worse here in Canada were I live. The worst homeless experiences I've had is in downtown Vancouver Canada and downtown Los Angeles
The hotel occupancy tax is unavoidable if you are staying at a legitimate hotel/motel or even airbnb. That tax helps the city maintain its infrastructure to keep San Diego as clean and as pretty as it is, since its a tourist town. The touristy areas will cost more because the rent is much higher in those places that businesses need to pay. If you are renting a car, always look at the gas mileage rate the rental company is offering. Many times, they are more competitive in pricing than nearby gas stations and you don't have to worry about filling up the car when you return the vehicle. However, the trick is making sure you return the rental car on a near empty tank to get your money's worth.
I got scammed by a Pedicab in Gaslamp🙋♂️ After the nightclub, me and 3 girls were walking back to my car which was 3 blocks away. The pedicabs are all lite up with all these Christmas lights and music. It cost $40 to go 3 blocks. I was like WTF? The guy said $10 per person. Uber and taxis are by the trip. Not per person. Never got another Pedicab. They drive their Pedi cabs swerving in and out of traffic like a bicycle. They act like a car and a bicycle at the same time.
Thats ridiculous! Yeah man pedi cabs dont care and will swerve right in front of you if you are driving. Ive only ridden a pedicab once in my life and i was wasted on new years eve years ago. Apparently i jumped out of it at one point 🤣🤣🤣
@@Jaycation Maybe I should start scamming Tijuana cab drivers because I’ve been ripped off even though I negotiate first but they raise the price during the ride.
Wow I never knew about this 10.5% occupancy tax in hotels! Did SD always have this or is this something new? I’ve been to SD twice love it my fav place :) found the prices to be similar to where I live (Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦). Great videos always informative and good content! Keep it up.
Hi Pavan, yeah it's been like that for years. It gets buried in the hotel bill so i dont think tourists mostly notice it. Definitely similar to Vancouver... I've been up there once. Had a great time! Thanks for watching and appreciate the nice words!
10% occupancy tax?! I think I saw that in my Hard Rock Hotel bill last summer. That made me realize why California is expensive to live in and also just to visit. Tijuana is getting to be like that too.
San diego is definitely expensive. I love miami. But decided to switch it up and come here. It's definitely more pricey and miami is pricey as well. But Sandiego makes miami look cheap af 😂

Yeah they include airbnbs... airbnb owners actually have to register for that in order to list their place. Just as bad as vegas resort fees!
I think the hotel tax in Vegas is ever higher and it's on top of the resort fees.
