As I've read, The Green Serpent she is referring to is her battle with alcoholism. "Let the green serpent slitter away." The alcohol is the serpent, an animal that likes to trick you..
Sure. It explains a lot.
Yup this song is about sobriety.
in slavic (russian) culture green serpent or green vine refers to vodka or hard alcohol or green potions may symbolize poison. its often used in poetic forms to highlight the harm of alcohol consumption and has association with wizardry or witchcraft, hope you get it.
@@nicgapo9713 Sure. Everyone knows that Russians drink too much. Alchohol is bad at any amount. And the lead singer somehow wants to make a song about it. Gosh - - that's GENIUS! Or, is it a well worn subject that is sung about in lots of styles of music. To my ear - this style of music is old fashioned. The growling vocals are particularly unremarkable. But as I have said - they do have a pretty good drummer.
@@jeffthompson1869 Congratulations on unprovoked assholery.
Great new song! These guys are all so good. And that carpet python Tatiana is handling is gorgeous!
Yes, Tatiana has been sober for close to 3 years now.
Guys, Jinjer has an awesome new music video called "Duel."
The green serpent is alcoholism.
JINJER!!! What else would you expect from them??? Unbelievable musicianship…🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽🔥
This is some of my favourite vocal melodic composition from Tati, & I love her extensive use of her *gorgeous* head voice in this piece, a piece of her vocal repertoire that we've heard very little of up to now. That section with the combined guitar & bass tapping with great tom drum groove is incredible, & I love the Opethy outro. Even the stripped down, simple chuggy riffs in the last two heavy sections are a welcome addition, as Jinjer fans usually have to struggle to head bang to Jinjer's weird rhythms & unusual, shifting time signatures (which I also love, of course). This is a *great* song, destined to be a Jinjer classic, IMO.
They've already performed this song live, and it sounds great!
Yes, the bass on the way out is so Opeth. Eugine has mentioned he is an Opeth fan, which is cool as him and Martín Méndez are two of my favourite players.
Greetings from Arizona. Here in the U.S a jumper a child’s foote pajamas. I always enjoy your reaction to Jinjer.
Same in Canada, LOL.
"It's not him who drinks from the bottle
It's the bottle that drinks from him"
Jinjer is poetic as always!
BTW, white wine is not necessarily done from green grapes. The different between red and white wine is if the peels of the grapes are left in, or just the juice.
The author of the comment that you have read is Eugene Abdukhanov (JinjerBass) .
It is really a brave song about people struggling with alcoholism. The Green Serpent is an Eastern European metaphor for alcoholism. (Tatiana has posted about her sobriety). She and the band have a lot of talent but it takes guts to expose one's struggles. Great reaction as always.
"Brave" would not be boring people with your own problems. I get it- people like headbangers about drug and alcohol abuse. It's been done to death for decades now.
@@jeffthompson1869 If you find it boring why are you here? I find petty criticism of talented people boring though.
@@jeffwellman2883 The reality is that nobody needs to be here - bored or not.
I have been hearing this kind of music for decades. The comment is not necessarily about the artists - who are not that creative - but ARE talented. There is a difference.
It is those who are in the comment section gushing over derivative work as if somehow this band is some kind of supergroup of musicians. Or that the lead female singer can growl with the best male growler. If you like this kind of music - you are perfectly free to express yourself.
I do not like this music - and I feel free to perfectly express myself.
When I like a song or band - I have NO PROBLEM with expressing my delight.
So, here is the new question - If you think I am wrong and just a comment troll - why engage with my negative comment at all?
Could it be that we have a difference of opinion on what sounds good to us - and because you like this band - you cannot fathom that others have completely different ideas of what makes good music? And - that is the reason for engagement?
I thought I was pretty clear in my reasoning or explanation of why this kind of music is dreck to me.
I will say, on a positive note, that in the band - it is the drummer that I am most impressed with.
@@jeffthompson1869 Make the music you want to hear then.
@@jeffwellman2883 I do.
Nice to see you, guys ☕ Jinjer is awesome as always 🎸🤘🇺🇦🎵
Loving your reacts, great that you are not staging anything and just going all naturally.
Thanks for the reaction
It's clearly a song about alcoholism
It's not alcoholism, it's just about when you drink alcohol you sometimes became fm good person to a demon, Jinjer almost all times sing about duality Yin and Yang.
🤘🇺🇦❤️Jinjer
You are such a beautiful and funny couple ❤
lol Green Serpent is metaphorically referred to alcohol in russian. Bitten by green serpent in slavic tradition is symbolic of alcoholism and the depths of intoxication/addiction.....as for the song, the opeth outro is cool. Middle LOG breakdown is cool. Also kinda sounds like an angular proggy album cut on first listen, but quickly turns out to be a banger😂😂.....also tati looks hot here 😂😂
Jinjer - Audiotree From Nothing (Live Performance)
Jinjer - Call Me A Symbol (Official Live in LA)

Super!!!
He bought the online tee so he can search for a vintage concert Pantera tee for you. Yea, that's it.
You guys completely destroyed my image of what a jumper is. I always thought it was a kind of bodysuit and now I find out it's a knit sweater? The phoque???
Green serpent = alcoholism
Might have to strap Ash down for this one...😳
You were massively off lmao
im half a bottle of rum deep! hell yeah i love the green serpent and jinjer even more! ps. ur missers is a gaslighter who funnily enough is completely wrong on what she thought WAS IN FACT the meaning of this song
Gaslighter?
One of my favs as soon as I heard it, and I only like it more on each listen. May overtake Wallflower as my favourite.
Its about alcoholism...
🇺🇦💛💙
Amaizing song!
Nemophila reaction plz
Waltz is better than this. I'm sorry but true. Been following Jinjer for over a decade and I prefer Lena Scissorhands because she knows her band well enough to make better music than this. Why is Tati doing this? This is so mediocre.
Not my cup of tea. The growl thing has been done to death. And it was a gimmick the first time it was done. Repetitive drivel.
Not your cup of tea and not liking growling or a type of music is perfectly understandable...harsh vocals can grate on me too, after a while. Music is an individual experience. But, when you expound upon your thinking to reveal you are an ignorant twat, I am gonna say something.
"The growl thing" is not a gimmick. Growls and harsh vocals have been a part of music and a mainstay of some metal genres for going on 40 years now. Harsh vocals are part of the vocal range that any human being can tap into, with practice and dedication. Growling is no different than the distortion pedal, wah-wah pedal, or other effects pedals a guitarist may use. It's both a vocal style and a vocal effect that can be used to emphasize certain parts of a song and/or emotive content. Being able to switch back and forth between clean/normal singing and growling is a definite talent. It's not a gimmick in any way.
As for repetitive drivel, harsh vocals are no more repetitive than the commercially successful, predictable verse-chorus-verse song structure, used across multiple genres, that has been proferred to us for generations by major record labels and radio stations.
As for Jinjer, they are the antithesis of repetitive. They rarely follow traditional song structure. You never know what genres they may borrow from or what may happen....only that it will sound like Jinjer.
You forgot something like "Jinjer is one trick pony" for the complete prick's set
And yet you're here. Couldn't escape that clout addiction eh?
Growling is not for everyone. But for me a Jinjer fan it is a staple and an art form. I have been fan of metal since the 80s, certain bands I connect with and other bands I don’t. Jinjer is not a comercial band and they don’t try to be.
It's not a gimmick. It's an expressive technique that's best utilized to convey certain emotions reflected in the lyrics. Or as cathartic release of rage or frustration. Even a cultural tradition within the culture of heavier metal.
