    These 1/18 models get more and more popular. Especially in the crawler community. Thanks for the presentation.

      Sure thing! I really like the size as I mentioned. So much fun with little money and lots of detail.

    I just received one and the body (on mine) appears to be rendered in a pearl white metallic; I can see metal flakes in it, so I think it is painted instead of a molded-in color. One other person on a RC forum said it is painted in lacquer so I will go with that until I know more. Instead of painting the "ugly plain white body" I will leave it as-is and maybe paint the window frames and trim. Pleasantly surprised at this revelation. 😍
    Furthermore, the basic 1/18 Land Cruiser 80 with full interior, straight axles and inner fenders seems to be going away. The RocHobby Katana is long gone and the FMS Toyota LC80 version seems to be sold out/unavailable everywhere. FMS seems focused on the newer FCX18 LC80 with portal axles but no inner fenders or full interior, so get one of these while you can.

      Yes that is what they are doing now with the never cars. A nice touch.
      yes i saw this too. Personally i liked the interior and the inner fenders but I am well aware of how much better the FCX chassis is. Still it was really nice.

    Great video, as usual. Factual, serious and calm, not screaming and jumping around like some other rc RUclipsrs.
    I'd love one of these for indoor use in the winter, as they look really nice, but I've already bought several WPLs (3xc24-1, and building a custom c14) and an Axial SCX10 II builders kit with hardbody the last few months, and waiting for an SG1802 and a WPL B24.... I think that will have to do for 2021. Ah well, maybe next year. 😂
    If you have any tips for hardbody builds for the SG1802 I'd love to hear them. 😊

      Oh i do plenty screaming and jumping, but that's at the office. this is a very good application. I use these indoors too! I did a video (#286) where I ran them on a Duplo bridge. Those WPL's are some of my faves btw.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  3 года назад +2

      It is but I still think the WPL is more capable but when you add some upgrades to the WPL, the cost is about the same.

    I definitely agree the WPL has too-large tyres. I actually test-fitted some WPL D12 1/10 scale wheels/tyres on the WPL C-54, and this maybe an unpopular opinion for all the rock-crawler dudes out there, but the D12 size tyres are perfectly-scale for the C54 if you're after a factory-fresh LandCruiser look. The current WPL C54 tyres are like a 40" tyre...😅 I've ordered some SCX24 1" wheel/tyre combos for the WPL (will use wheel hex adapters to make 'em fit)...can't wait to try those too. Along with unlocked diffs for the WPL. 😮 As you can tell I'm a bit paranoid about getting as close to 100% a scale experience as possible 😬

    3:45 I'm no expert but I thought this had the same interior as the RocHobby Katana, FMS Toyota Land Cruiser LC80 (FMMROC004RTR) and of course the EazyRC Patrion/Patriot. Instead of just deleting the interior and tinting the windows (Arizona), leaving the windows clear (Triton), they kept the interior which is nice. One of the few interiors with a center console area and a gear shifter.

    good review as always @ampro, think im gonna stick by my wpl for price wise, cant really knock it and parts are easy to modify/upgrade. if mistakes happen, spares are relatively tuppence.
    not sure the 1/18 scales isd for me, but interested in the tyre options mentioned in comments

    • @AMPROEngineering

      The WPL is such a great compromise. It is small, cheap and usable. They are detailed and totally capable outdoors, more than most can imagine. I totally hear you!

      These 1/18s use standard size 1.0 wheels with a 7mm hex and 1.0 tires. There's faaaaaaaaaar more tires and wheels for 1.0 used on these 1/18 and 1/24 like the SCX24 (same size)

      I was wondering the same thing. Some have more batteries (this had 2 while the yellow jeep had one), this one has more details and an interior where the jeep didnt so I would go by cosmetic preference

      Get the FMS LC80 or RocHobby Katana V2 IMO. They are identical. The red RocHobby V1 That was based on the hobby plus CR18 is nice if you are familiar with that truck. The V1 is far easier to get replacement parts for since pictures parts with the hobby plus CR18 and Atlas 6x6, but it doesn't have the CVD axles of the V2

      There's a video from donaldsneffe comparing the EazyRC, Katana V1 & V2/FMS
      Clif notes. As usual the EazyRC version has cheaper electronics and plastic axle gears.
      The katana V1 is discontinued and based on the HobbyPlus CR-18 axles, transmission, shocks, and chassis. The V2 uses the same electronics as V1, but uses the EazyRC axles & transmission with metal diff gears instead of plastic.

    • @Spoo76
      @Spoo76 3 года назад +1

      I've been loving all these hard body 1/18s over the last few years. Most don't seem to notice these have CVDs instead of dog bones, which is a big deal IMO.
      I prefer the FMS/RocHobby brands as they have better electronics, full interior, and metal diff gears.
      There's the LC80 Land cruiser,Jeep Wrangler 4 door, FJ Cruiser, and now the Chevrolet k10, and of course EazyRC has unlicensed versions of all of these with cheaper electronics, no interior, and plastic axle gears.

    Is it easy to upgrade esc and motor?

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  Год назад

      You would need to replace the receiver/radio as the ESC is part of that. FMS does make upgraded motors too so you can always swap that out. The motor is standard so that is an easy one.

    • @Spoo76

      It's the same as the Gray RocHobby Katana V2, not the red V1 which was basically a HobbyPlus CR-18 with the LC80 hard body.
      Aside from the lack of interior and cheaper electronics the EazyRC versions also have plastic diff gears instead of metal
