FT-891 or FT-450D, none of that messing, 891 good compact rig, 450D more user friendly. I do like dedicated band switches though and Mode rather having to press multiple times to get where you want. I do love the look of the Galaxy, DX95T2 what do people think of these ?
Hi Steve fella - quick question .. how can you reduce the power on SSB to use with a KL203 etc - or is best to just leave alone? I love this radio a lot so much so that I've now bought x2 of them - the latest version 6 - thanks Rob
Hi Rob u can turn the power down on the front of the rig. The best thing is to connect to a power meter, and go from there. From memory I think the early 6900, the power only turned AM/FM UP and down.. On the newer 690oN it does it all. Some people use the Mike gain on other rigs.
TBH the 203 is quite a small amp, it will make a difference, but not a lot. Running any rig that can produce 3 times the maximum input of an Amp can be a disaster. You could turn off the Amp, and turn the rig back up and forget to turn it down again. That said if u are carefull it should not be a problem.
Yeah I agree Steve that these rigs do have odd settings but are good value and pretty powerful. I ve been looking at the Superstar 9900 which is also menu fiddly but is 45w FM and a good 60w SSB. Gets good reviews if you can get your head around it.
hi everyone. My 6900N is way off frequency 27.555.00 is 27.554.26, cant seem to find anything online to align it or whether its menu or internal trimmers ?
Hi , I've got a few crt rigs and in particular one I'm giving a friend is a 6900 no n or v just 6900 and was wondering what power its kicking out on each band standard please mate
Hi Steve hope you are well and staying safe.can you tell me please how to turn off channel 9 warning noise.there is a net that uses the frequency that's on my channel 9 on 6900 thanks
I would go ch 8, then use the 10kc jump. To this day I never use ch9, not on mid block anyway. Ch 9 high maybe. U may be able to program the rig if u have a cable.
Hi @Steve Stevens I bought the newer similar radio the KPO DX5000 v7. I know you know quite a lot about radios such as these as ive saw you around here and Freds videos. Im looking to know if its possible to use one of these radios (or the kpo) for FT8 Digital mode om 10m. I use an ic7300 usually but would be good to interce this radio too with FT8. Cheers for the videos.

Nice upload Steve. For all CRT 6900N Owners . TRX Labs ... Channel has a video showing how to zero beat SSB and AM Via the service menu. No covers removed. no screw drivers.. Once done its a fully operational Multi mode transceiver with accurate frequency TX . RX.. 73s 153AT88 P.S. Just noticed the upload is 2015. Guessing the firmware has been upgraded many times .. 2021.
Hi fella i think the 6900n is a pretty good rig, loads of breakers now have them. The one thing i do not like is the clicky Clarifier, but hey ho it is what it is bud.
@@CBRadiouk1 Yeah the CRE 8900 is the same. But the reason they have that click, is when you zero beat the radio while in the service menu. The clicks are small increments of frequency adjustment.. When you turn off the radio. The clarifier will automatically zero to that adjustment.. Hope this helps..
Hi ya Steve just watched the video very informative. I’ve also got the 3900 I like cause it reminds me of the old cobra 148 I had I loved that radio. Thing is I’m not sure if I’m on the uk 40 and the eu channels.
Hi David if your rig is the same spec as mine the 19 of the muppets will be on ch 33 with the kc shift to the 9 oclock position. Let me know how you get on ok fella.
I noticed that the Automatic squelch has a nasty habit of suppressing a conversation after it initially was receiving just fine. Somehow it rises the squelch threshold while receiving perfectly to a point it suppresses it and keeps scanning again. Very annoying and hardly intelligent or even useful. Newer CRT models can set a separate value for SQ and AQ and even Auto AQ. Do you have settings to counter this nasty AQ threshold behavior? BTW i like the setting to display SWR or BAT when transmitting, very useful. I used it to crank up the TX Power by adjusting the power supply at TX to 13.5 volts. 40 watts easy.
A qwerky radio Steve......like anything else the more you play with it the easier it must become.......I was looking at the alinco 135 which I suspect is similar Gary
Hi Steve and thanks for video, can i just say about the settings seem to be fo each channel i have discovered on the programming software there in a sectiuon says "single change data" if you untick and then tick which setting you want for every channell its sorted
Very well explained Steve, like you say make you bang your head at first,, ive had 3 different makes that all work more or less the same and my anytone v3 gets overloaded with very strong stations have to turn the rf gain down to combat that problem but I got to like it in the end ,,,good value for the money if you can put up with little strange ways they have ,, cheers Shane ct1017
Hi John I hope you get on well with it. TBH The build quality on the 6900 is not as good as the older rigs, like the Cobra range . That said they are a good radio, the menu can be a pain, mind. I ran mine the other day on SSB, FULL POWER. I ran it for a good 30 mins, it got warm but not hot. AM/FM operation is a different story, they get hot pretty Quick. Let me know how you get on ok fella..

Well it sounds to me as though the rig is being used on a badly tuned Antenna. It is telling you that the SWR is high. I havent used mine in ages, but i am sure you can turn that function to OFF.
Hi Daniel the power can in fact be turned down, on all modes by the rf power control. My first 6900 it only turned down AM/FM. You can reduce power using Mike gain on any SSB rig. I have never found it an effective method. Although it works it's fiddly.
Very informative Steve.. Seems a lot of bang for your bucks... Appreciate a vid of you connecting it to the computer if you are doing that in the future. Nice video. Got mine thru today and its all good - quirky, but getting good radio reports. I've been adjusting the frequency using the "push" part of the clarifier to fine tune/select specific frequencies. When I go off the channel and back to the same channel again, it doesn't default back to the original (*correct) frequency!! Er... what am I doing "wrong" - I feel like I'm mucking up all the saved channel frequencies!! 🤔 😆 Any tips for resetting back to "default"? 😆
hi Dave you are doing nothing wrong bud, thats the way it goes. that said if u are using SSB USE ANOTHER BLOCK, u could use one channel for 27.555, and the next one or two for a designated QSY frequency.
+Chris Simpson Hi Chris there is a double pot on the front of the rig that turns it on and off, take a look anticlock turns it off.If u cant find it let me know , give me a day to reply ok bud.
+Steve Stevens Hi Steve many thanks for your reply. Nope I can not see any double pots, The talk back is very annoying and very loud. I only have instructions for the SS6900 which states that you can adjust the talk back within the function menu however the layout is different on the "N" model and doesn't cover or mention talk back.
Very good vlog. Easy to understand tuples and to the point. Are these all the secrets of the radio transmitter? Are there any more mysterious features?

Hi Patrick if i am honest i cant remember , BUT u can go ch 8 and hit the 10kc jump to get onto ch 9. Although i still have a 6900n, i have not used it for ages. i in fact have loaned it to my mate.

Hi Steve. I am a new subscriber to your youTube channel & loving watching your videos. I have come back into CB land after 30 odd years and I have also purchased the SS6900N from new and had it opened up by the shop I bought it from. I am finding a bit hard to fathom out some of the features. I have got around most of them but for the life of me I do not know what the DW button is for and what does it do. can you please tell this old timer what it is. Also I am using the CRT M6 Mike as supplied with the rig. What would you suggest for the setting, I am running at about 30 whilst checking the Func Key. Do you think this is ok or can I up it a bit to improve speech power? Cheers Buddy 73's Keith
Hi Keith firstly thanks for watching the vids, and making a comment. Right Mike gain first , that is something you will have to play around with fella. A lot depends on how close you hold the Mike, how loud your voice is. And your rig, some may run louder than others. Dw (from memory) stands for Duel watch. You set the rig to watch 2 channels, it will skip between say the 19 and one other channel. The squelch has to be up for it to work. A bit like a rig with a scan function, once something breaks through the squelch scanning stops. I have never used the DW function. The best advice I can give regarding Audio , is get another Mike. The stock Mike is ok, but tend to not last a long time. Where are u Kieth?? Roughly.
Hi Steve Thanks for replying very quickly. Regarding the Mike I do have another one . At the time of buying the radio I also bought a K-PO DMC 110. I have heard that it's a good mike. The reason I am still using the original one is that I am disabled and I find it easier to use the up/down channel feature on the mike. As far as DW is concerned Thanks for the explanation, I probably won't be using that. I live about 12 miles south of Oxford. I have been in lockdown since March 12th and I have been going stir crazy. I started to watch some CB videos on here and I have sort of got the bug again. After chatting with my XYLn she said I should have a go again. So after spending nearly £500 down the line I am up and running again. I have also had a few DX contacts so it's given me something to do & to be honest I am so buzzed up. It's great to back on the airwaves again. Keep doing the vids buddy. 73's Keith. 1-SY-121
@@englishandproud1949 HI Keith no problem fella, well here is something that I may do. If I go to some high ground you should be able to talk to me on the air. What Antenna have u got up.
Hi again Steve. The first Antenna I got was a Moonraker 1/2 wave Silver Rod but the QRM was at S8 most of the time. I have checked out my own house and I am fairly certain that it's coming from something else very close to me outside. In desperation I bought a Hawkins Radio SSDb12+ Dipole with a built in choke set at about 14.ft from ground to the choke My SWR is about 1-1.4 across the bands. My QRM problem has decreased somewhat with the SSD 12+ and although I am still needing to use the RF Gain to bring it back to a better level I am still getting about S6 without the RF gain control. I am thinking I might need to buy a QRM Eliminator to try and beat it. But being a pensioner and already having spent over £500 to get fully re-equipped with everything I cant really afford to spend any more., After having bought Steel Masts,Coax,Antennas, Power Supply SWR/Power Meter, Flagpole etc it has soon mounted up. I also have a 1/2 wave horizontal Wire dipole which has been gifted to me . If I can get my son to help me get this one up as well I could use it as the counterpoise if I can find a reasonably priced QRM Eliminator. Don't get the impression I am a technical Guy Steve 'cause I ain't lol. I just been watching loads of videos on youTube to regain some knowledge from back in the day when I was a sprightly youngster. Now 70 and disabled & not being able to do much I rely on my Son to put the gear up outside and help me where he can. Thanks for replying to my posts to you but it does help me a great deal. Cheers Mate 73's Keith
@@englishandproud1949 HI Kieth qrm is a pain for us all. I am not really a fan of using the rf gain to reduce qrm. All that does is reduce the sensitivity of the rig. Some of it is just given parrot style, and it's hard to know what's true. Regarding the Mike thing have you thought about a desk Mike??

When it turns up, if you have ANY problems just ask and I will se if I can get you sorted ok fella. In case you are wondering why I mention is it an N version, the early 6900 suffered a bit from front end overload, ie very strong signals would distort. Hi Nickolas a 4 pin mike is pretty easy to do, here is an easy way to find where at least 2 of the wires would go. the bare wire goes in the same place the bare wire on the original microphone is. Now if you look carefully that bare wire will be wrapped around one of the other wires, make a note of what wire is goes around. That wire is what we call Audio. Put that wire in the same place as the Audio on the original microphone. Do you have a meter of any kind like a VOLT METER WITH A CONTINUITY SETTING, THAT WOULD MAKE THIS VERY EASY TO EXPLAIN.

@@CBRadiouk1 thanks Steve - great advice there many thanks - looking forward to some new CB videos from you hopefully.. best Rob
Can't you lower the output on ssb by reducing the mike gain?
Yeah I agree Steve that these rigs do have odd settings but are good value and pretty powerful. I ve been looking at the Superstar 9900 which is also menu fiddly but is 45w FM and a good 60w SSB. Gets good reviews if you can get your head around it.
Yes 9900 is also a great little radio .. I was very impressed the first time i hooker her up !
Hello could you explain what the HI-CUT is on the SS6900N thank you.
Hi Michael I have used my 6900 with both settings.
It just cuts out out the higher pitch noise really.
Almost like a high and low tone.
hi everyone.
Hi Steve, I have one of these but can’t get below 28. How do I get cb on 27. Thanks. Eamonn.
Hi @Steve Stevens
I bought the newer similar radio the KPO DX5000 v7.
I dare say it could be done with a home brew interface.
Can't help any more than that really.
Sorry for late reply bud.
@@CBRadiouk1 no problem and sorry for the spelling mistakes but you got the gist of it. I bought the Tigertronics SignaLink interface which works a teat. Cheers Steve hope you're well 73
Nice upload Steve.
Hope this helps..
yes i found this very helpful steve,,,thnks southapton uk,,,,,personel chris

Hi ya Steve just watched the video very informative. I’ve also got the 3900 I like cause it reminds me of the old cobra 148 I had I loved that radio. Thing is I’m not sure if I’m on the uk 40 and the eu channels.
Hi David there are a few versions of the 3900, does your one have a 3 way switch that says da/eb/f/c
Yes Steve mine looks like the one in your video.
Hi David if your rig is the same spec as mine the 19 of the muppets will be on ch 33 with the kc shift to the 9 oclock position.
Let me know how you get on ok fella.
Do you do a walk through for swr? I’ve not been on the rig for 37 years.
A qwerky radio Steve......like anything else the more you play with it the easier it must become.......I was looking at the alinco 135 which I suspect is similar

Hi Steve and thanks for video, can i just say about the settings seem to be fo each channel i have discovered on the programming software there in a sectiuon says "single change data" if you untick and then tick which setting you want for every channell its sorted

Hi Shane the early 6900 also suffered from front end over load, the 6900n does not. (result)

Well it sounds to me as though the rig is being used on a badly tuned Antenna.
It is telling you that the SWR is high.
I havent used mine in ages, but i am sure you can turn that function to OFF.
Steve Stevens had same problem,it was a short on the patch lead.
So this Radio you can hear the roger beep when you de-key ?, on my Amstrad 901 I can’t hear the beep unless I turn on another radio to hear it.
It was coming from the rig underneath.
Hi mate does the ss6900 have the talk back function
Hello sir! Is that correct that you can reduce the power of the radio on SSB by reducing the mic gain? Thank you! YO8UFO
Hi Daniel the power can in fact be turned down, on all modes by the rf power control.
My first 6900 it only turned down AM/FM.
You can reduce power using Mike gain on any SSB rig.
I have never found it an effective method.
Although it works it's fiddly.

Hi Pete I sold the rig ages ago fella.
Nothing wrong with them, I just prefer the 9900.
Any tips for resetting back to "default"? 😆
hi Dave you are doing nothing wrong bud, thats the way it goes.
that said if u are using SSB USE ANOTHER BLOCK, u could use one channel for 27.555, and the next one or two for a designated QSY frequency.
Great Video very helpful. However do you have any idea how to adjust or turn off talk back.
+Chris Simpson Hi Chris there is a double pot on the front of the rig that turns it on and off, take a look anticlock turns it off.If u cant find it let me know , give me a day to reply ok bud.
+Steve Stevens
Hi Steve many thanks for your reply.
Are there any more mysterious features?
the things i pointed out in the video covers enough to get people going.
Thanks for the video Steve lots of good info. Quick question could I run the 6900 off a cigarette lighter connection when going mobile ?
Yes because your light is protected by a 10amp fuse, which will allow 100 watts
I have noticed that no one has done a video showing how to program the 6900??

Cheers Buddy
73's Keith
73's Keith. 1-SY-121

HI Keith no problem fella, well here is something that I may do.

I am not really a fan of using the rf gain to reduce qrm.
