I think the only really misjudged aspect of Hate Rodrigo's marketing was that it meant Yena's fans were trending a "Hate Rodrigo" hashtag right when Olivia was releasing her second album. That could have gone wrong if twitter's randoms had joined in thinking it was a real hate tag.
Being both a Yena and Olivia stan was one of the funniest times to be alive during the HATE XX era like i had to do double duty defending both of my queens
I feel SO BAD for Yena, even if I do think Hate XX's marketing was cringe. She's being treated worse than most male idols would be if they did something like that.

i feel like i'm in the twilight zone w/ how kpop is bc it's centered on capitalism and consumerism YET companies fail to capitalize off of artists' momentum. i''m going to cite aespa as an example (their cb is nov. 10 drama and it better be solid) as they're a group i carefully follow - aespa thrives in the asian markets especially EA and you'd think sm would give them a japanese release like a NORMAL company esp after next level's impact but NO, they promoted a mediocre english song like life's too short and it was forgettable. imagine if they scrapped that and the girls mini bsides (ik the title was polarizing but i didn't mind it too much, it still is their worst one though) and used all that wasted effort on a japanese release to promote on japanese shows, i even liked better things much more but it wasn't necessary plus we could've already had an ALBUM (they're def releasing one next year so). i firmly believe that's why groups like ive and newjeans are essentially at the top of the industry bc their companies actually know how to maneuver themselves in the market, i doubt without the same effective promotional choices they'd be in the same top position.

Im pretty sure I can recall one of the girls going on confessional in gp999 to talk about how theyve been on hiatus for a long time and dont have the necessary resources to make a comeback. This teenager is judged negatively for having this style by her mom and peers but it's the style the celebrity is rocking. It's not jealousy but feeling a kinship as the same type of hated outcast.
