Hey guys, I'm Brian the guys in the video. Thanks for the love! By the way, a lot of people have been hating on the cheesy spotlight in the video. Don't take it too seriously, cause it was Paul's idea in the first place! I thought it was pretty funny haha!
Paul Gilbert always plays with such conviction, never EVER letting the rhythm suffer...and this kid Brian really held his own, playing WITH the master every step of the way! Quite an accomplishment and he should be proud!
Hey Brian, I thought you held your own with Paul better than I have seen most do - INCLUDING professionals! Credit to you, and the cheese made this even cooler! Cheers man...
Interesting. I think its worth pointing out a difference in approach to one section between the two players. While the player on the left(not sure his name, will call him MI) used sweep picking for a section, Paul instead used an alternate style to achieve the same goal. A good substitute for those unable to sweep pick, like myself.
Does paul gilbert usally make time to come to mi and jam normally?? I applied and got in sadly I dont have the money so I have to wait 3 years till im done with the army and I will be attending =)
In a personal opinion I think they're great for the rock sounds, because you get that nice fat bottom-end in your sound. If you listen to the Foo Fighters, almost every single of Dave Grohl's guitar tracks are recorded with a hollow-body. Another nice example is Triggerfinger. The guitarists tends to play these lovely big hollow Gretsch guitars. When you move up to the high-gain metal/shredding territory they tend to get very muddy, so in that case I'd stick with a solidbody electric
It doesn't matter that he's Asian, What does matter is practice, patients and dedication to what one wants to achieve. As you can see Paul is not Asian and yet they both play equally great. Why be a tool
Hear yee, Hear yee, here doeseth arrive the white knight. On his noble steed of significant stature. Say knight, doeseth it ever get lonely up there, standing on your steed which standeth on a soap box..eth?

The student tone and taste and choice of notes impressed me 🙌
you play very interesting intricate fusion licks man...amazing and you have an amazing tone...
... how nice to be a student at Musicians Institute ... I always imagined that it must be like that ....
They're having so much fun! *jealous*
A wonderful dialogue between them! Thanks...
Should have listed the student's name - he's good enough to get some recognition!
+Tyler Yates He did. Just watch the video.
Towards the end u see the name
Beautiful.
Holding your own with Paul Gilbert, that's something not many can do.
That kids tone is beautiful. I love it. Paul's is always so thin sounding
+Paul reed Smith well he is on single coils vs the kids HB's
+Paul reed Smith Definitely, I've never cared much for Paul's ultra bright tone.
Paul reed Smith I thought the same...
Hey Brian, I thought you held your own with Paul better than I have seen most do - INCLUDING professionals! Credit to you, and the cheese made this even cooler! Cheers man...
That guy on the left was amazing!
well first I thought one doesn't want to get into exchanging speedy licks with paul but you handled it very well :D you're a great player man!
This kid is good, credit for keeping up with the best!
You rock Brain, I would love to jam with Paul!!
wow that was great on both parts! good stuff !
Hey Brian you were great man!! You Rock!!

That guy on the left,, that tone is sweet
Oh my god are you the guy from the Carvin DC400 review?! the guitar rocks dude and so do you!
Paul is still my favorite guitarist :)

That 0:50 - 1:01 was really awesome ! That was some sort of " Did you see that comming duh ? :p "
Does paul gilbert usally make time to come to mi and jam normally?? I applied and got in sadly I dont have the money so I have to wait 3 years till im done with the army and I will be attending =)
The same conversation like with Guthrie, cool🤘
Is the kid playing an ibanez hollowbody or a gibson ES335?
I just wanna ask u how good r hollow guitars for rock stuff with high distortion???
Aos 1:42 ao 1:44 Edu ardanuy Rock " Rock will Never Die" Hahaha ... o Cara toca muuuuito BEM 👏🏼👏🏼🤘🎸
Amazing!!! ;)
nice
what kind of fender amps are they playing through??
This video makes it abundantly clear that Paul Gilbert uses 9s.
Paul has a mature lines and theme, while the student follows his lines... Nice jam
Good student. But,
0:50 try to ramp up the technicalities, and
0:54 Paul will destroy you
:P hahah
like father like son
Actually, kid's sweeps sounded better to me.
Not that Gilbert wouldn't destroy him if it went down... :D
lmao maybe in the 80s
I think the student attempt after 0:54 was actually the best
Time to cry on a corner
You're so lucky
We've got a ton of great players coming out of MI. mi.edu/degrees-programs/performance-programs/guitar/
Check my vid
Damn Brian ! You've got something so special in you brain and fingers not a soul can take from you. But they can pay you for some of it. : )

You might get a lot of feedback if you use a lot of distortion. I don't use too much overdrive tbh, maybe middle of the road amounts of gain.
The kid has better tone then PG in this jam :)
At 1:52 Paul's like. He's getting cocky, time to shit on his face.
You can't really tell who won this battle.
honestly paul's every riff seems different and this dude is very good also he should learn from paul.
cool ;-)
you sir are a luck son of a bitch!! And a awsome player! Im jealous
The guy on right is better.
Who cares about the spotlight you can really play!

0:54..beda kelas

no one ever plays rhythm...EVER. LOL!
Yes, where is the harmony?
But i can hear the chord (which is A) and the groove. You clearly doesn't have any groove and your ears are deaf
lol gd the tone should be much much better coming from a gilbert video
The student has really fast fingers but lacks the timing and sense of rhythm that Paul Gilbert has.
LeafBucket the kid has some jazz-fusion flavor in his riffs, hence the odd-time signatures he does...
LeafBucket Hence why he is a student.....hes young, sounds good, wheres your videos?
Hear yee, Hear yee, here doeseth arrive the white knight. On his noble steed of significant stature. Say knight, doeseth it ever get lonely up there, standing on your steed which standeth on a soap box..eth?
Check my vid
master never look on the fretboard
not english, right?
At the beginning is all good, but as the jam goes on, the kid is running out of ideas. . Paul saves the day by ending it. :-)
blues scale aint gonna save you, paul ;/
3 minutes of walking...lol
THANK GOD FOR THE LIGHTS. THAT WAY I COUD TELL WHO WAS PLAYING.
Moron editor.
MI guitar student? Yikes....
