  • The Grand Bazaar lives up to its name: 65 interior streets, 21 access doors, 3600 shops! In other words, you can get lost!
A point of reference: globally, each type of craft is grouped by district! Tell me what you buy, and I'll tell you where you are! Well, almost, because merchants of Turkish delight, sweets and spices proliferate everywhere!!!
The oldest part of the grand bazaar dates from 1455. It was built of wood by order of Mehmed II, on the site of an old market.
In the center is a vast vaulted room, the Bedesten, a sort of flea market where countless old things are piled up. We find everything there, we negotiate everything, but nothing is guaranteed, and certainly not the authenticity of the objects - and nothing is taken back, by the way!
Despite the profusion of goods, the bazaar is perfectly organized and the stalls well ordered! It is a real "shopping mall" of unusual size!!!
Objects are offered here, like antiques. But again, nothing guarantees it!!! And Turkish law does not allow the export of objects over 100 years old, as in many other countries!
So, we can dream … or have fun, but this market is essentially a tourist bazaar!
