    Great video, I have the savic rolly for my mouse, and 14" and a 16" tic tac. The rats love them.

    Great video thank you. All going well I'll be picking my 3 boys up next week. Hoping to get a 16" tic tac wheel next week too. It was great to see the baby doing well on the big wheel. Hoping my 9 week old boys take to it.

      They can take a few weeks to try it if they are a little scared of new things. However if they are from a breeder that introduces them to wheels early on they are normally straight in there

      @@IsamuRatCare thank you, they took to the wheel straight away. I can hear them through the night on it (pretty quiet but I'm a light sleeper) which is great as it's a considered purchase for a rat cage 😁 I'm still making friends with my nervous boys but each day they're a little more fun! Thank you for all of your advice.🧡🐾🐀

    Great video and very well explained! Whether people choose to have a wheel in their cage or not is personal to that owner, but I think you've explained very well the benefits of offering a wheel and the structure of a rat's body and how it's affected by a wheel.
    Do you have much more information around the concerns around 'wheel tail' which I've seen a lot in arguments against wheels (even labelling it as malpractice!)

      That's very much the aim. I choose too but it isn't needed. I'd always rather educate people to make there own choices rather than just do what I do. Much better for us all that way and I get to learn stuff too lol

    I just got a solid 16 inch metal wheel which my girls seem to love, one of my rats is a bit tubby and while dieting was helping her I felt she needs that extra little push to get down to an ideal weight

    This was super informative, thanks! What are your thoughts on the flying saucer type wheels? Does the way those are laid out affect what size is best?

      They tend to be only good for babies really. If they are used fast they try and take off. I've not found any of my adults use them though young babies enjoy swinging on them in free range

    Three of my girls use a 12" Silent Spinner and/or the 12" Kaytee comfort wheel (both in their cage on different levels). The three who use is are very small (all three between 290-340g), so it works out for them. I wonder if the reason the bigger girls don't use the wheels I have is because they're too small. Unfortunately, I'm in the US, so I'm not quite sure how I can get the 14"-16" wheels at an affordable price. I just checked and the shipping costs as much as the wheels!
    Do you think it would be feasible for someone with very little mechanics background to build a couple 16" wheels from scratch?

      There's a few people who have managed to make tic tac alternatives in the UK. If you join the Facebook group rat care UK and ask our search on there you should get options. They are possible though you may need a few tools.

    Thank you for your videos they are really good. We have recently purchased a 16" tic tac wheel, I noticed your seems to be covered can I ask why ? And what have you used to do so?
    I totally appreciate you not wanting to remove it for the video it is a bit of a show and dance :)

      I wanted something that fitted in with my natural theme and got a uncoated silver one off someone else so decided to have a go. I use patterned duck type and stick backed plastic. Not perfect but I like it

      @@IsamuRatCare thank you. I was just wondering if it was for any benefit but makes sense now. I love the whole theme for a cage but have yet to stick to anything as it's just a mix of what our boys like/need and what we are trying out. Our boys are our 3rd group of furry babies but 1st time having boys so learning as we go.

      Yep I never used to do themes either. This one started by me proving to myself I could do a theme and meet the rats needs. Then I really liked the rats responses to natural materials so it stuck

      Or of interest is she British/American blue? They can be prone to mite allergies

    I have 2 male rats who are 4 month old. They seem really small for their size, they weigh 320 gram. Is a 16 inch wheel to big for them or will they be able to use that size?

  • @BopBop36
    @BopBop36 5 лет назад

    I finally got a 16" wheel for my boys and they seem to have it. I only had one who ran on a wheel. But it was a plastic one and much too small.
    Any ideas on how to help him like the new metal wheel? Can you coat the inside with something to make the texture more pleasant for thier feet?

    • @IsamuRatCare
      @IsamuRatCare  5 лет назад +2

      They seem to run on it well but if they are nervous of it then try smearing a bit of wet food on it. It can take a few weeks for them to start using it
