    Installing a 2.25" mid-pipe from Megan Racing, a quick rev from behind the car, and my thoughts after driving around for a day along with the sound of my exhaust from inside the car with the windows down. After the review, I did bring the mid-pipe a shop, but none of the shops near me that were open when I wasn't at work had the proper equipment to weld stainless steel. I ended up removing and selling it. It actually sounds great with a stock manifold, but too loud and raspy with a header, even one with a high flow cat.

    ALL of you're problems are due to you're aftermarket headers... the drone sound and vibrating raspy sounds you are hearing are all coming from those aftermarket headers. DO NOT buy aftermarket headers for this car. The car actually comes with headers that work perfectly fine.
    You mentioned getting a Vibrant resonator to fix this... that will absolutely work and fix the raspiness however, if you put you're OEM headers back in, it will go away. Based on what you told me in regards to what you prefer soundwise... you should consider the following:
    OEM Headers --- Stock S-Pipe --- Megan Mid-Pipes --- Megan Axle back
    The megan axle back exhaust is not loud or obnoxious and pairs nicely with the midpipes... i can tell you right now, no matter who says otherwise, that replacing headers or s-pipe does absolutely NOTHING for performance... even aftermarket headers still fit into the stock system so nothing is wider and there is no more airflow. Swapping out any piece of the Scion TC2 exhaust system to gain performance is as useless as a screen door on a submarine.
    The reason i know so much about this is because i had a similar setup until I parked it in a garage where some idiot joy rided it over the bumps and literally broke and bent a piece of the s pipe which wound up bending the entire system slightly to where replacing just one piece caused everything else not to fit. So I basically bought everything all over. But i decided to put my oem headers and spipe back on to save money. Then i bought megan mids and axle back... ZERO rasp and for the most part, it sounds almost exactly like if you were to buy the car with JUST a TRD axle back... which is a lot better sounding than stock but not in any way loud enough to annoy anyone.
    for those of you who want a louder sound... all you have to do is install the megan mid pipes and then pair it with an exhaust that has a slim muffler... the megan muffler is big and acts as a resonator so something like the borla is better... I can tell you now that the megan midpipes with the trd axle back sound excellent... but the trd is expensive. in any case, if you put back ur oem headers and spipe... you would not need to go to the muffler shop... and you would love the way it sounds...
    i hope this helps at least one person... and rem, if you are buying any part of the exhaust for performance gains on a scion tc... it will have the same effect as a helicopter ejection seat. Do not replace ur headers unless you want ur car to drone, vibrate and sound raspy.

      Oh, I know it's because of using the header in conjunction with a larger mid-pipe. I've been recommending doing either the header or the mid-pipe, but not both unless you want that awful noise. I'm actually quite happy with my header and stock mid-pipe setup, but I know others are happier with the setup you speak of. To each their own though.

    Good luck, hopefully the shop can come up with something that works well for you. Had a CNT midpipe paired with the Borla axleback. The sound was definitely loud and wasn't something I minded too much but couldn't say the same for my little toddler who made it clear to me that it drove her nuts hence ended up taking it off :). Probably already mentioned, but I'm thinking of going with a CNT Axle Back ('13 TC) AND CNT mid-pipe, with stock header. Will this give it a throaty deep-ish sound, instead of a "raspy" or high pitch fart-can sound?
    The other alternative is purchasing the CNT Axle Back alone, and keeping everything oem, but still trying to avoid the "raspy" sound.
    And thanks, I enjoy your videos dude.

    What was your final set up?
    I want a low baritone sound but, I can't take the loud noise during acceleration, especially in the city. I'm not trying to be a racer or a river!

If you don't want loud but want something that sounds good, start with the Borla exhast. Then either add a 2.25" midpipe (no larger for this setup) or a header, but not both or it will be loud.

    Hi Derrick, thanks for the great video. I learned a lot from it. I have a 2011 Scion tC (automatic), completely stock, and would like to make it sound better. I don't care much about performance, the goal here is nice, deep sound (not raspy and not obnoxiously loud either)
    I definitely want the Megan mid pipe, but I don't know if I should go with Megan or Borla axle-back (TRD out of budget - well, unless you think it's REALLY worth it - I heard it's almost the same as Borla (?)).
    Also, not sure if I should get an S-pipe, is it worth it, or will it be too loud? The only one I can find currently available is the CNT, though I'm also trying to find the Megan. Which one would be better? Is there any difference between the two?

    • @VampyreX13
      @VampyreX13  7 лет назад

      From some of the comments I've read, putting the stock manifold back in quiets the exhaust up a lot. The header in conjunction with the mid pipe is why it's so loud. The s- pipe probably doesn't help with that either.

    • @jitnyc
      @jitnyc 6 лет назад +1

      It wouldn't be louder, but it would do away with the wet fart raspy sound...
      The header and s pipe, for the scion tc at least, have no contribution to sound or even performance... I'm sure some people would disagree but that's prob cause they just wanna justify their purchase just like i did. Luckily for me, as told in my reply, some guy in garage broke my exhaust... My setup was...
      New headers, bigger spipe, Megan mids with vibrant resonator, and trd axle back.. The vibrant resonator was installed cause the headers made my car sound like a ricer.
      I put oem headers and spipe back... Then installed Megan mids again and then bought some cheap axle back exhaust on eBay for 90bux... My car sounds great and it growls like it's a bad ass but i know its a freaking toy... Its all good. The only piece that matters for sound is the axle back.. @maxxiidabeast1080 if you have a gap that's causing an exhaust leak even with a new gasket, then you need to figure out why the two pipes aren't mating up flush and fix that. If you can't get that fixed, then the other option is to use a 2.25" Remflex gasket ( amzn.to/4aKraUf). I have a video showing how I installed a 2.5" one on my exhaust at ruclips.net/video/iHqeVdxplQs/видео.html.

    Hey bro quick question, my car is
    Completely stock and I wanted to either buy a borla exhaust or keep the exhaust stock and just get this mid pipe which do you think would be better? I want it to sound a bit more louder and clean

    • @VampyreX13
      @VampyreX13  4 года назад

      I had a header and the Borla exhaust in this video and I was really unhappy with mid-pipe, but most likely it was because of the combination with the header. I've read other people liked how this mid-pipe sounded with the stock manifold and an axel back exhaust, but that is subjective. You can hear my old Borla exhaust with the stock mid-pipe and manifold at the end of my video at ruclips.net/video/ii9Uhje3iVo/видео.html.

      StrikeBlaze, 26 ft/lbs at the head starting with the bottom middle, then upper left, upper right, bottom left, and finally bottom right nut. I don't remember how much at that s-pipe flange. I think maybe 29 ft/lbs.
