  • I hope this long awaited video inspires you to try hand quilting or to try a different thimble when hand quilting. I've used Jean's thimble from House of Quilting since the early 2000's. No more hand cramps. I've included many samples for ideas on how to hand quilt your projects. Have fun and relax.
    My favorite batting for hand quilting is Quilter's Dream Cotton and the loft is REQUEST.

      Thank you Angela for checking it out. You can find it on my website under the shop tab. There's a link to take you to Jean Adkins site to order them. Have fun. You will probably have to call her to have it shipped over. Or have a local shop contact them and order several. Have a great day.

    This thimble reminds me of a woman who used an old spoon many years ago. Her husband had semi-flattened the bowl for her. I can't remember what was wrong with her hand, but she couldn't wear a regular thimble. I know some quilters also use spoons beneath the quilt so their fingers don't get pricked.

    I love that you recommend learning on a cheater panel! This was how I learned, and I quilted 4 quilts by hand this way! But my first trip to a local quilt shop, I was told I’m not a quilter because I hadn’t pieced a quilt yet 😢

    • @robinmeadows4758
      @robinmeadows4758 Год назад +3

      Many quilters don't piece their quilt tops. Not all quilt tops are made of pure cotton fabric either. Quilts started as a way to turn leftover fabric into something useful (waste not want not). Don't let these quilting snobs get you down. I'm 68 and have been sewing since I was 8, and making quilts since 14. My quilts have often been made from old clothes and leftover fabric (think 70's polyester, etc.) Most are pieced, but also baby quilt panels. Do what makes you happy. Life's too short to listen to naysayers. Keep going Sweetie!

      Sorry to hear of your experience. So I guess they don't recognize a whole cloth quilt done by professional long arm quilters that win awards in quilt shows as being will quilters either. I say you are doing great and you are a quilter. Keep it up!!!

    I am so glad I came across your video. I was probably at the same sew and quilt convention down at the coliseum and bought that tool. It has been in my sewing box since! I couldn’t remember what it was! I do use the yellow stickies. But now I will try using that tool.
    I enjoyed your video.

    Really like the thimble gadget. This was from a yr. Ago ,I am just seeing it. Was thinking , if you pin the safety pins from the back , then your quilting threads would not catch .

      I've never been successful hooping it. It always seems to get in my way. Most hand quilters use a frame or hoop but there are many of us that don't. Try both ways to see which you like better.
