the snow was made by using a combination of deforming terrain and complicated materials. the snowflakes are snowsprites attached to particles that fall from a plane in the sky. the particles had quite a bit of Mel-scrip attached to them to make them act less uniform and allways aim at the chamera.
I agree on the review too :) But do keep in mind there were time constraints hehe. Once all particles were baked the scene was running at around 2fps inside Maya, so it was not fun at all to work with in the end. I used particles for the footprints in some places, and blendshapes in other places.

The pixar spoof at the beginning was more involved and better done than the main animation. It's still not too bad overall though.
