Wait whaaaat!!! After he killed her, the police DID NOT ARREST HIM...he had to turn himself in...EVERY SINGLE person who failed this family should be held accountable.
I can only imagine the reason these guys turn themselves in is for the free food and housing after lock up. He clearly didn't feel bad about anything he did.

My ex tried strangling me! I have to say Chicago police did help me they arrested him and he spent a yr in prison not county jail he was transferred out of there. This was years ago! I even got a call when he was going to be released. I had an order of protection as well. He found me when he got out and knocked on my door. He knew my car and where my kids went to school. I told him to leave or I would call police and he didnt want to go back to prison, so he left I was very fortunate! He since has passed away .

Statistics suggest that it's the deadliest when you actually leave. It's a slippery slope. Women are NEVERRRR protected! We have to start moving in silence. Smh. Crazy bc I was raised to harm any man that abused me..bc I was raised by a DV survivor. As a result, I've become so non tolerant but also abusive. Abusive bc if you show me ANY sign of abuse (controlling behavior, aggressiveness, talking down to me etc), I react immediately. I also leave too.. smh.

So sorry you've been through it. What's so frustrating are the people gaslighting women saying that women chose wrong. They don't want to accept that there are manipulators who take advantage of people. It's so much easier to blame women, say it's their fault, this is what they get, too bad, so sad types of attitude. It's much too hard to hold these abusers accountable, to punish them, to uphold the protection orders. There are REAL MEN out there who WILL defend women and aren't gaslighting them and blaming them. My heart goes out to everyone going through any type of mistreatment.
The sounds of her screams on that surveillance video will live forever on in her children’s lives.
Knowing her daughter witnessed everything. Those screams will forever be in her head. Her poor son performing CPR only for her to pass away. He will forever have that moment ingrained into his head and feeling like he failed her and he will feel she died bc he couldn’t save her.
The man who k*lled her gets to go to a place where he will be given a pillow, blanket and place to sleep, he doesn’t have to worry about the cold or how hot out it is, he will given free food and the “comfort” of never having to provide for his child. I hope something clicks in his head about his actions and I hope he is fully haunted everyday with what he has done. He has k*lled a women, a daughter, a friend, a sister and most of all a mother. So many lives destroyed because of this monster’s PREVENTABLE actions. Every person who wrote the report up for her should be investigated and charged with negligence especially since there was physical proof that it was him!
I’m never quick to blame “the system” or police but this situation is an absolutely heart wrenching tragedy that could have been prevented. So many people of authority failed her.
I hope the children will be able to still feel the love their mother had for them. I truly hope that they will be able to get therapy to help them through this trauma. I hope they will be able to forget the manner in how she died and for the memories of how she live to take over. There’s no peace within this tragedy but I hope that her brother will be able to take her death and change it into something that will help prevent other women from this same outcome.

The only thing a person can do in these cases is to leave town or buy a gun for protection . Waiting for the law to help is usually fruitless.

Here in Canada my friend had suffered domestic violence and she has 2 kids. When she finally got out the law enforcement took care of everything so quick he was arrested the same day she called the cops. the report was all taken down, paramedics checked her out, took pictures of her bruises. investigators took her statement, child services interviewed the kids and he was put in custody. He paid bail but the matter is in court now.
All this was done in less than 2 days.
All I am saying my friend got lucky to have justice on her side. Everyone was very helpful and kind to her. The matter was taken care of in 48 hours.
If people just do their job properly less victims will be in this situation.
P.S
After we came from the police station to take her statement, the cops followed us home and then they went in the building with us and checked all the corners and our apartment, outside the windows to make sure the husband was not in the vicinity.
That is how Canadian law enforcement works.

The tactics do not stop an abuser. Even though everyone has the right to equal protection. The victims should be equipped and allowed to defend themselves.

My abuser violated the protection order 6 times. All he got was a suspended sentence. No punishment at all for chasing me at 2am and slashing the tires of mine and my father's vehicles. Nothing for trying to run me off the road in front of witnesses. Nothing for hitting me and admitting it to cops. This man even kidnapped me across state lines and left me for dead with no consequences. This was 20 years ago and i see 2024 Chicago is just as bad as 2000s Tennessee. And they say the South is backward.. at least TN strengthened DV laws.

Mine does daily, and I left him in 2019. I've even been told that at this point, I can shoot on sight. I'm afraid to stay alone, I have a 10 Yr old daughter, so I moved with my mom. I'm almost always depressed, and feel like it would be better to just not be here. It is what it is though ig.

@aliciaguitar- Thanks for sharing your story. I had to deal with stalking & Dv as well, years ago early 2000s. I know the cops "failed her" but honestly they don't do much even when they do act. The judges are not innocent either , suspending sentences and not feeling the case warrants jail time. As a man and father of two daughters and one son, this makes me upset. My sister went through a nasty divorce; she had to get a permanent restraining order. She came to me to help her buy a weapon and train. My dad and I went to her house to move her out until her divorce was finished. Her husband showed up when he wasn’t allowed to be around. She called 911, and I confronted him, man to man. We argued that he didn’t want to leave, so we got into a fight. I am 5”10; he is a 6”0 fit former personal trainer. I was a boxer when I was younger. I beat the hell out of him. It took my dad and three cops to get me away from him. They didn’t arrest me or press charges. He was arrested for violating the PPO. She is living with my dad now. The scumback is still trying to make contact with her. I told her to always carry her weapon and use it if she needed to. My situation took place in Florida, and the cops and the court acted very quickly. That is the main reason my only sister wasn’t hurt and I am not in prison.

It's just that a lot of ppl don't know to take anything like this to their local DA. If their needs aren't able to be satisfied through local law enforcement. Sometime it is a necessary step to protect yourself from D.abuse and other issues, as well.
I'm only aware of this bcuz a city police officer took me to our local DA office in 1986 in Louisiana over a stalker. Idk about all states, but I know they will help here. I had recent confirmation again 2 weeks ago concerning D. abuse my gr.daughter (14) and myself experienced back on Dec 15th 2023. The DA made sure the Judge added a stay away order in court today.
Hopefully, that doesn't just add fuel to the fire.

Unacceptable. The system failed her :( I had a close friend whose father was abusive towards her mother. Her mom kept filing reports as well and got a RO. My friend lived with her mom. Along with her son, and boyfriend. One night her dad broke in and started shooting. A bullet barely missed her son's head. The dad shot/killed the mom and then shot himself, all in front of my friend. My friend couldn't handle the trauma anymore, eventually taking her own life a few years later.
The trauma that her children will face because of this is unimaginable. Maria tried desperately to save her life. She tried so hard to protect herself and her children. All she wanted to do was live her life safely. I pray her soul is resting peacefully.
This poor woman did not have to lose her life if someone had actually done something about her situation. This is so sad on so many levels 😢. May she rest easy in the arms of angels
This woman lived in terror & fear and finally lost her life. What is wrong with this man? Was he so angry that she could move on & took steps to defend herself? He killed her a few hours after being served the restraining & restraining orders.

So sad. Look at the protests against Chicago police in the summer of 2020 to defund police & ppl running for office saying the sane. The police in many cities were weakened by that movement. And when an officer has to defend himself protesters & media are so quick to turn on police. That’s a tragic case. The ppl who led that movement didn’t care about ppl like this nice woman who. That movement was partially funded by groups to get more violent criminals unleashed on society. Police used to prevent crimes. But in “blue” cities elected officials in charge of police pulled back police presence so they only respond to crimes after they occur. BLM & AntiFa’s gift to blue cities. The same ppl who complain about police today wanted them defunded in 2020. They got their wish.

I was friends with twin brother and sister and they were so sweet and kind . His twin sister got killed by her child's father . He was abusive and he lured her out to meet him and he killed her.I know how he feels without his twin and the justice system should be held responsible for this. The courts ignored her cries for help, even the police ignored her and she had to go to the district attorney's office to get him arrested. She shouldn't have to jump through all those hoops just get help and was to late.
