Thanks for the great video! The distorted tone really set these speakers apart for me. The cannabis rex sounded full and natural, whereas, the stock fender frisbee was thin and a bit brittle.
Thanks! Yeah I agree. The stock speaker can sound more alluring clean because its a bit brighter, but honestly in person it has that frisbee cheap tone across the board. On RUclips videos the Overdriven contrast stands out alot more.
Being an OTR truck driver has it's perks. Pulling into the back lot at Sweetwater in Ft. Wayne. Fixing to buy a Cannabis Rex for my on board truckin' amp, the SCx2.
I have the head version with the 112 cab. I think this is such an underrated guitar amp. For the money and even not for the money it’s just so versatile. I have other tube amps and this one is just almost always the one I go to first just because it always delivers! Thanks for this demo
Yeah they're much better than they get credit for. I still think the original Super Champ XD is one of the very best budget amps of the last 15 years.
@@JackFossett Absolutely... I still have mine... I builded a head enclosure for it, re-biaised the amp (a bit cold stock), and use it with a 1 x 12" stock used Fender cab...
Awesome amp for the price I paid....
Great playing my friend !
Wow great demo. I've been playing for about 35 years and you are fantastic. I consider myself more of a tone junkie now, although I wanted to be the greatest guitar player in the world. I'm going with the CR. I like the tones you were getting compared to the RC. I do believe what you said in one of your replies, the CR is more fender like.
OMG! The warmth of the CR!!!
Great demo Jack, I'm thinking of getting this amp, I gig a lot & this amps size & features is perfect & can't beat that classic Fender tone. I think I would go with the Rajin Cajun. Thanks bro, you rock!!!
Dave Byron sure thing! I think the Ragin Cajun is my favorite for it too, not to diminish this one, but it sounds so powerful with the Cajun. Almost more like it has a 12" speaker.
I agree. It was a good demo and it was interesting hearing the Eminence CR. I agree with the Rajin Cajun approach though as I put one I my XD six weeks after purchasing it new in 2008. It along with my Vox AC10 are my main amps for gigging and pretty much everything. I have played around with tube swaps (finally settling on EH for power and Tung Sol for the preamp). The speaker swap remains the most significant and pleasing upgrade though.
Great demo....
I have a x2 head with the 112 cab....great amp lovely Fender sound. The intro alone already made me thinking...buy a second cab with an 'upgraded' speaker. Good job
Both good sounds, I stuffed a Jensen p10r in my Superchampx2 and after playing it almost non-stop for a month it suddenly made the amp a super princeton( 2x6v6) and yes it really sounds like a blackface 60s 10" combo but more versatile. For what it cost a new speaker and a phillps Ecc81 gives you a fender valve amp at a 3rd of the cost of a 10" 2x6v6 equivalent. Use it for recording at home snd small gigs/ jams. Great video, thanks.
Thanks for the videos and I'm enjoying my SCX2. I'm torn between the Cannabis Rex and Weber TF150T. I'm not so concerned about low end as I am with classic Fender chime and sparkle. Also, have you tried upgrading the output transformer? I hear that can improve clarity and low end.
Love the CR. The stock did sound great clean, but it all depends on what you like to play. For me, love the warm tones from the CR.
I have a Cannabis Rex 12" in my Blues Deluxe RI. Sounds awesome. Love that speaker in Fender amps.
Man, I have a Blues Deluxe and the sound seems a bit harsh for me sometimes. I'm considering the cannabis rex too. What can you say about it? I play SRV/Hendrix stuff, so i want that fat clean that works with overdrives as well. Greetings from Brazil.
@@joserodolfospin4756 I absolute love my 12” cannabis Rex on my Princeton Reverb. Honestly, you’ll only KNOW know if you prefer when you try to A/B it in person. Worth a try!
Just bought one the amps love it gonna check out one of the cannabis Rex speaker...very helpful video thank you so much.
Hi Jack. I picked up the x2. I already have the xd with a 1058.
Between the C.Rex or the ragin cajun. I’m not sure which one I want to put in...I plan on using both amps as a stereo rig. As always, great video.
I bought a new SC x2 last week to carry in the Big Truck. (Over The Road Truck Driver). Perfect size, great sound but I always upgrade everything I buy. So what will it be this week? Chrome for the truck or a Speaker for the amp? SPEAKER!!!
I have an FSR Blonde/Oxblood with a Ragin Cajun, and the Head/Cab with a Swamp Thang. Both sound amazing, and even better when run in stereo.
Hi Jack-So what speaker did you leave in the Champ? I enjoy your presentations!!!
Nice demo! I recently bought a used ×2 from guitar center, I THINK it's a 08 model, and it has a Jenson alnico 5, and compared with a stock fender, I preferred the Jenson, great playing mate!
Thanks! Jensons are awesome. Both my big Fenders are loaded with Jenson alnicos.
I don't think it EVER came with an alnico speakers, Eminence raging Cajun was put in that amp stock but that's about it.
You did say you bought it used so the previous owner put in that alnico speaker and I bet it sounded the best, I know mine did with the alnico, it turned that amp into the best little amp EVER!
Hi Jack, I ordered a C.Rex for my scxd. Thanks for the help with my decision.
Mines coming tomorrow, how’s your experience with it?
@@tylermrhandon: I really like the tone of this speaker with this amp. It still retains that render tone but with a twist of a bit more mids. I hope you like it.
Nice demo. I prefer the clarity of the stock speaker, didn't think I would actually. I'd have to try ti with a greenback. :)
Absolutely agree!!! Cannabis sounded mushy and unfocused.
I agree with your opinion on the speakers 100%.
Ordinaryavg.guy thanks!
I have a Deville 410. Any thoughts on adding 2 CR and 2 RC’s? Any thoughts on mixing the two?
I prefer the darker, more rounded tone of the CR. However, one thing these videos have shown me is that the stock speaker, which is an Eminence cheapo, does not sound horrible. It’s thinner but has a non harsh bite that will cut through a mix. One could presume that with some patient knob twiddling, a more rounded sound COULD be achieved. Fender should really do away with the goofy label on their stock speakers. They should work out deals with the different speaker companies and it would really class their amps up quite a bit.
I've heard that if the digital /modelling section malfunctions it's very difficult, sometimes impossible to repair - is that right? I guess one could just use the valve-driven channel with pedals.
Thanks Jack. Yet again I buy another Eminence based off your recommendation. You are batting a thousand and saving me hundreds in bad speaker choices...they don't take these back. I am building a parts cab out of all my swapped out speakers. Great fun. Love the vids and you are quite a guitarist.
Toney Davis thanks Toney! Appreciate the kind words and glad that the videos have made an impact. I may at some point put these extra 10" speakers I have kicking around into a cab and see how they sound together too...
I'm older and have had many amps in the past. Fenders and tweets. And although I do not put he X2 in that class. But I have the head version I matched with a 1x15 cab loaded with a d130 jbl
I need no other amp. This thing is perfect.
You can't really hear much difference on RUclips. One reason I bought mine is because it's less than 25 pounds. Also I hear they sound better after the break in period. Some just can't help but tinker and experiment.
Have any of you tried changing the speakers using the FUSE software? You can change to Cellestion and other speakers digitally. And different cabinet configurations. This changes the tone drastically.
Hi Jack, I know your review is a few years old but I was wondering what your opinion of this amp is. It looks like Fender may be discontinuing them but I found a new, limited edition blonde that comes with a 10" Eminence Ragin Cajun.
Great amps. Very versatile. Work best on the clean channel and using pedals IMO
How about the Greenback G10? That's what comes in the Red Wine version?
A Ragin' Cajun replacement doubled the volume and headroom of my amp. It sounded bad at higher volume until the switch.
Really ? It took all three sweet toned out of mine so I put the stock one back in, love it !
I was thinking of putting the chassis in a cab that holds a 12”. If a simple speaker upgrade, doubled your volume, I have to go that route
I have the X2 combo with a Ragin Cajun (I have the stock fender too) but also have the Super Champ cabinet that has a 1x12" celestion g12. Personally I think this amp sounds best pushing the 12".
You can put the 50 watt speaker in the 15 watt w no issues like that?
thanks
i am in the minority - got rid of my cannibus rex (and a celestion g12-65 and a celestion rockdriver jr) in favor of actually going out of my way to buy back the stock speaker (found on on reverb for about $40) - i think it is my favorite speaker - and i love the way it farts out too - love that!
Me too ! Got a used one for super cheap say guitar center and then after playing a new one in guitar center with a stock X2 I realized that the stock was brilliant and bright the way I wanted mine to be so I looked in Craigslist and found the previous owner of the amp I bought from guitar center with a ragin Cajun it selling a stock X2 speaker so I bought it from him and for cheap and put it back in the amp she kept it that way. In saying all that I mean the only speaker I liked in the X2 aside from the stock was a vintage alnico 12.
The main reason I’m interested in this amp is it’s weight. Does the Cannibus Rex add additional weight to the amp?
what people dont realize from reading the comments is that the stock speaker while I like the highs is that it farts out on the low end .I am thinking about getting a canabus rex for mine. I assume that because of the rex high 103db sensivity that it would make the x2 louder and not fart out.what do you think?.
yeah it does indeed fart out. However, I've heard quite a few people comment about using it power a 2x12 or 4x12 cab with apparently incredible results. I have a 2x12 in the basement I want to try it with but everything is covered with painting tarps and gonna be that way for a while I'm afraid. How dare a stupid house get in the way of music >: (
I like the way it farts - very expressive
Nice miking!
Diego Aparicio our yellow sun makes it the strongest mic holder in the universe
Jack, do you prefer the cannibus Rex over the rajin Cajun? Great videos. Thanks 🙏
Henry Cornejo I actually prefer the Ragin Cajun, but its character vs quality, they're both great speakers. The Cajun just makes this amp sound massive.
@@JackFossett Agreed, that's what mine came with and love it. Also, using the Fender Fuse software is a must - turns it into a little tone monster for a home or studio.
This amp is good with pedal?
the eminence are superior if youre going to distort them. Ive used them all over the years , red & blue series. The Ramrod is the one I'd use.
have u tried the Eminence Legend 1058? curious how it compares to the C Rex. looking to upgrade my pro junior
I have not, I did also have a Ragin Cajun in there which I really liked. The RC in a Pro Jr would probably sound great, but also depends on the tone you're going for.
Sturdy Mic holder there !
He IS the Man of Steel...
I've heard a Greenback through same (which sounded great) and, of the three I prefer the Cannibis. Based on your demo I went and got a SuperChamp head and picked up a Cannibis Rex 12" for a open back Cab I've had for years. Now I have the best of both worlds a great Marshall and now a Sweet Fender. Thanks
Awesome!
Can you advise me I want a clean sound for my fender blues deluxe amp
I’m considering getting a new speaker and an attenuator so I can crank the tubes in the bedroom
Can you advise me best for both ??
Please Ian
Hi Ian the best solution tonally and costly wise is to get Eminence 's either Reignmaker or Maverick that have built-in attenuating system. It is the cheapest AND best choice especially compared to speaker+attenuator (all attenuators darken the sound a lot).
Keep the speaker and get a $100 Bugera attenuator! It’s good to run a fan when attenuated because with the power amp tubes cooking it gets warm. Sound wise and temperature wise too.
Is this still Lawn Boy?
Without a doubt the stock speaker is brighter (more treble). Cannabis Rex seems more balanced and resultingly better midtones. Still, what would've been the outcome if you had tried to get the same tone from each, i.e., dial in the tone rather than judging the tone by the dial?
I have an Eminence Ragin' Cajun in m Super Champ XD, but the Cannabis Rex seems to have more clarity and chime. Might be looking to make another swap. The Cajun is bigger sounding for sure, but like you said, I do miss the character of the amp.
Yeah they both definitely have different strengths and weaknesses. The Cannabis Rex is probably more "Fenderish" overall
Isn’t the stock speaker Eminence v1030?
How would you compare Cannabis Rex to Eminence Alessandro speaker?
ThePilkasVilkas the Rex is much larger sounding, Alessandro is crisper
Love that groove at 2:05
You think I can sneak a 12" In mine? And can you also clarify if that would affect in any way
mmmm my guess would be no. But if you want a bigger sound, try the Eminence Ragin Cajun
...or alternatively, you can run it through an external cab
Love stock more
Personally, I think the stock speaker is fine, but Emimence does make some excellent speakers for those who want an alternative to Celestions. Although I generally prefer 12 inch speakers, I've learned not to underestimate what a good 10 inch can deliver. I also prefer Fenders to Marshalls, and I've been playing long enough to have a pretty strong opinion on this issue. I find fenders to deliver better clarity, more consistent tone, more headroom, and faster attack than Marshalls. They are also far more reliable, and far better pedal platforms.
I agree with you on the Fender vs Marshall thing definitely. Fender tone sounds more refined IMO. Particularly for playing clean. I think they're generally better for anyone playing genres other than hard rock (and heavier).
That descending pentatonic lick is super nice; the.. diddle-diddle-diddle-diddle-diddle-diddle-diddle-didely-didely-didely-didely-didely-didely, diddle doodle dadle dudle dangg -part. I love that you play this lick and nothing else in all your videos for going on 10 years. Great stuff. Fuck variations, just stick to the old petatonic diddely. Awesome!!
Have you done a review with a celestion g10 gold?
No I haven't although its on my short list -- I'm currently working with a Fender Princeton and have been toying with the idea of a speaker shootout.
I'm considering switching to an Eminence Legend 1058 in my Super Champ x2. For $65 bucks I can always put the stock one back in if the Legend doesn't cut it.
Cool! I haven't tried the Legend, but I've really liked all the different Eminence speakers that I've tried in this amp. And honestly, almost anything is better than the stock speaker.
I put the 1058 in Xd. For me, it made this amp come alive. Plus new JJ’s helped it along. Cheers
@@jbert7289 I have an super champ XD and was thinking of adding the 1058 speaker. Did it add sparkle and chime? or did it add beefiness and warmth? how would you describe it? please let me know thanks.
@@jordanebacher: for me and my ears...it added “life” to what is already a great amp. The lows became usable and the sparkle is “fender” if you ever played through a set up fender hot rod deluxe...the Xd with these mods is its baby brother. To me...it’s better than any stock blues jr. To me...these amps really speak is when you turn it up to 5-8. Amps very. For my amp it’s 7. FYI:It still sounds good at 2. If you choose to put this speaker in...good choice...think about new tubes and bias the amp. When you do that, it will keep up with any loud drummer. These are only my opinion and experience with what I have. If you have any more question. I’ll reply. I hope this helps.
If you want a Princeton type sound, a Celestion 10-30 would do the trick for half the price. Food for thought.
It’s interesting, the stock fender speakers sounded better for cleans and the Patriot sounded better for the driven settings.
There's an X2 with an upgraded speaker, Celestion Greenback 10 going for $345AUD ono - but the guy won't deliver unless I arrange it. Bleh. I'd grab it but I am lazy and can't be bothered dealing with the logistics of couriers and whatnot.
Or maybe I will...you can never have enough amps. This one seems like a good, versatile amp. Practice amp and more.
Canabis Rex. So sweet full and warm.
Amp emulation 12 is Marshal, 13 is Super Sonic.
The stock speaker sounds more "Fendery."

I prefer the stock for clean and the cannabis for the grit
In my opinion, fender amps sounds awsome for cleans. SS and tubes. Stocks speakers do their job very well. For OD channel I prefer pedals (crunchers and OD's). Low Gain and play with the pedals!. It's another point of view for the speakers swapp fever over fender amps.
I really prefer the sound of the stock speaker. The other one really is overwhelming. Id want to only hear that for 20 minutes and it gets wearing on my ears. I could listen to the stock speaker easily for a 2 hour plus show.
The Rex was a winner for me.
Stock sounds sweeter to me.
To me to, except for drive tones.
Actually the Stock speaker sounded better to my ears???
Wow.. I prefer the glassy sparkle of the stock speaker.
Why don't amp manufacturers give the option to by an amp without speakers, that way you can put what you want with it. Rather than paying for something that you will replace, sometimes sooner than later. Why pay for something twice?
They do. It's called a head.
@@Billkwando Brilliant...why didn't I think of that! I have five amp heads sitting here in my living room right now.
I have a late ‘80s Fender Sidekick 25R I’m getting high very very soon w/Rex
Jensen seems to have a permanent contract with Fender to produce low cost low-fi speakers for them. This Eminence here sounds very good.
I got the FSR X2 in red tolex. It came with a Celestion Greenback stock. The Eminence in this upload sounds like the Greenback which is a very good thing.
The greenback models are super cool!
The best demos put the speakers back to back, same riffs....with much less talk to scroll through.
…scroll through talking? 🤔
These vids are very useful. You can't buy a speaker based on picture! Bleh. So an upgrade like this is important to me.
I preferred the stock... also, when doing a demo, it would be useful to use the full humbucker SG behind you rather than the P90s which sound more like single coils. Thanks!
Anybody gonna talk about a speaker called cannabis Rex??
No
Sounds cool IMO
Decemt!!
Stock all day
man..I've got the impression you may have any speaker sounding good
I appreciate that!
IMO, this was not a good shootout - simply because the speakers weren't pushed - which is a true test of how well they come thru at higher levels. The high levels separate the good from the mediocre. Playing soft cleans and then switching to the 2nd channel to use artificial distortion , much like using pedals, doesn't bring out the true character of the speaker. You're not the only one that does this though as many on you tube follow the same disappointing procedure. Another problem of course is that listening thru a desk top computer via a mic is not helping things either :P
...ok pal
Fender don,t know what they are doing mmmmmm
You thank Fender don,t what they are doing to much on gear not enough playing guitar people
2:44 to get past the demo in E-gad and D-molished. 😛😛😛 Edit: Actually he gets to the point at 6:47....maybe.
You really just wanted to show of your playingskills? ;-)
