I had a kit back in the day. The best thing I can say is that it got me into decent turntables - I bought a Rega RP3.
I still have a BD1 I bought in the '70s from a friend. It has an Acos Lustre GST1 tone arm, with a Shure M75ED cartridge.I used it with an amp and speakers I built from kits - The Powertran Linsley Hood 75, and Wharfedale Dovedale 3s.
