A clean city, and especially modern with skyscrapers and huge malls. Despite this, a family can safely walk with a child driving a tricycle, crossing a crosswalk and the traffic stops - no traffic lights! Really wonderful. In all the capital cities that I have visited, I have not seen personal safety and free space walking in the lower city in the USA. I hope Davud that you will have the opportunity to visit the villages and connect with their personalities and discover other and different worlds. Russians are not so well developed to influnce kazakhs in that way. Don't think much about russians. They killed millions of kazakhs, almost ruined kazaks' culture and language. Kazaks are much more civilized then russians. During their independence kazaks got rid of the savagery and uncivilization of Russians
There is no influence of Russia on the culture of Kazakhstan; the cultures of many countries are concentrated in Kazakhstan. The country is ahead of Russia in many respects. From education to quality of life
As Almaty is in very active seismic zone, the residential buildings of soviet era were specifically designed and engineered for them to withstand at least 7-8 earthquake on richter scale.... so those 9 story blocks of apartments were not built as easily as you say. They were tested and left unoccupied for at least 1 year before people would be permitted to move in...... So many buildings in Almaty that were built before 1995 are highly regarded amongst the local people and considered as reliable, well insulated with thick solid walls. I live in one of those blocks and I absolutely prefer Soviet built block more than the modern ones that do not look and feel safe to me.
People just need to enjoy a place without making negative comments about another country. No country is perfect. No country has a perfect government but there are places that have values and morals they try to uphold. The few in that country who ruin that unfortunately also create a poor image to the rest of the world. My point, just enjoy whatever city you're in and if it doesn't suit your preferences, just move on to the next but provide an honest explanation as to why it wasn't so.
