Yes you can, assuming of course it's not yellow. Unlike commercial nurseries show growers tend to use older leaves to avoid messing up the symmetry. Some people say it takes longer with an older leaf but in my experience it works just fine. And if you put the leaf in a ziplock bag it will last a long time (longer then a week) before your ready to put it down, so long as it has light and the correct amount of moisture.
Can Streps be grown into large plants, similar to a fern? I'm back to growing Streps after a short start up in 2015. Have 7 Streps that look great but a month ago had my first rotted root all. Tonight I'm afraid I've found a second strep with 2 limp leaves. I use 60/40 coarse perlite and Pro-Mix BX, and acrylic 4-ply yarn to wick water.
I don't see why not, their crown naturally divides. You may want to split the crowns when moving up to a bigger pot. Some varieties grow bigger leaves then others. Some big one's I can think of off the top of my head are 'Iced Pink Flamingo', ''Fred's Yellow Ice' and ''Kalahari' (which looks so much better in real life then in photos). Medium size streps. are ''Joker' and ''Falling Stars'. And some are small like ''White Gold'. I don't wick. But I recently was not careful and some water accumulated in the dish, only about 1/4 of an inch but it caused rot I can smell the hydrogen sulfide. I flushed it with more water and I am trying to dry it out a little now. I may need to bag it to avoid dehydration. In the worst case I can restart from a leaf.
Please send me some leaf cuttings! Those are beautiful!
With all the broken leaves older leaves, can you use them to propagate?
