Ilove how colt is embracing the filipino culture with the open mind its so refreshing to see him colt enjoy together your family . eat food of filipino dishes
Did she just tried to understand the vendor in tagalog? That’s so cool, trying to learn the language. There’s many foreigners vlogging in the philippines and the foreigners who tried to learn to at least understand tagalog for me are thr most genuine foreigners because it takes an effort to learn a new language and showing some sort of effort to do so means they love the country.
I recently visited the Philippines and shared my experiences on my channel, but sadly missed this dining experience. Picking fresh seafood and having it cooked right there seems fun. The locals were so friendly and helpful. I definitely need to try this on my next trip!🇵🇭
What most foreigners don't understand about Filipino cuisine is that with the exception of some western dishes that had been assimilated into the culture, Filipino food is basically one giant Rice Toppings menu. Everything has to go with rice because rice like water acts as the neutralizer, you eat rice to dilute the taste. Is the dish too salty? Eat rice. Too sour? Eat rice. Too bitter? Eat rice. Too sweet? Eat rice. Too spicy and hot? Eat rice. That's why most foreigners find Filipino dishes too salty, sour, sweet or bitter and extreme, because they don't eat rice with it to dilute the taste. Filipino food also isn't heavy on high protein due to the tropical weather, the heat would make you melt under the sun if you have too much high protein in your diet. Those are more apt for countries that have cold winters. For energy, eat rice, they burn off faster and are easier to digest than red meat. Then just add a small portion of protein by eating cubed or bite sized red meat as toppings hence the Filipinos' love for Menudo and Afritada dishes. They're perfect toppings for rice.
When I went to the Philippines for a vacation, I loved the "sinigwelas". The green "sinigwelas" are not yet ripe. The red ones are ripe and very sweet! Next time you see it, pick the red "sinigwelas". Also, try the fruit called "atis" aka "sugar apple". It's green and looks clustered, the white flesh inside is usually a combination of sweet and sour depending on how ripe it is.
Great vlog of your very fist dampa experience Lockwoods. I went to the same dampa when I last was in the PI. Only thing my family and I did somewhat different was shop for my seafood and gulay, (negotiated our price from the vendors,) then picked out the restaurant that would make the seafood that we just bought the way that we wanted it prepared. G told you Erin to pick your restaurant first…hummm, then shop hummm. See what makes Asian cooking the best is the different styles and use of flavors. That’s why the restaurant Is selected after you select what you want to eat that night. For example, I wanted my lapu lapu prepared Chinese style steamed with ginger, scallions and light soy. And I knew already how much the cooking fee was going to be. Yeah Phil, get you hands on that fabulous crab and go to town brother. Heck with being all neat. Why do you think they give us bibs and buckets at crab boils here in the states🤣😄
What a food experience. Didn't know that a fresh seafood outdoor market tied to a restaurant can be found in Pasay. Another item in my list to check out. Thank you again for sharing this kind of food experience. Love seafood.
You need to do a part 2 of Dampa. Only the Lobster and the chili Crab are the usual orders that I'm glad you got to try. The others are mehhh... The ones that you missed out are large shrimps tempura style, either Crab or shrimps in salted egg sauce, grilled pork belly, steamed fish in Tausi Sauce, Baby Squid Adobo style, baked Cheezy mussels and Yang Chow fried rice or Salted fish fried rice. Hongkong Master Cook or Aling Tonya's restaurant are the best restos to. Have your food cooked. I believe in your first ever video of the Philippines, J suggested you to go to Dampa and you replied that you're definitely putting it in your list. Quite a long time coming.
glad that you met them, and that they can show you how we eat several of those kinds of seafood, it's enjoyable to see that you've met a friend who could guide you, that's what we want, every tourist should find a Filipino that doesn't want to take advantage of you to introduce you on our culture and had your backs. Cheers guys, looking forward to your next vlog.
@@livethephilippines I am glad that you don't feel different, as much as possible we want you to feel like this is the extension of your country, and feel at ease.
nice content! i like the way you're immersing yourselves into the local culture by learning and practicing tagalog... it will surely endear you to filipinos all over. 😃❤
Dampa is a word with not only 1 meaning, depending on the usage... You are correct that it means dry, but another meaning is seaside, which I would say would be more appropriate source of the name where you are at. Since it is near the bay
what an awesome experienced, eating good seafoods that will cost me in California an arm and a leg...lol. Many thanks sharing with us, your family outing in Pasay City. God bless
Wow! Fascinating day/night folks. I love your video content. New subscriber here. I'm saving up to visit the Philippines assuming I can get time off from work soon. The food looks very delicious and everything in the market looks amazingly fresh. I love squid, but not cooked in its own ink. Looking forward to more of your adventures!
16:29 The one below are Santol.. You have to try them when you see those again, its one of my favorite filipino fruits :) Also, amazing Dampa food tour. Its good to take someone with you, because you have to be experienced with seafood to choose the right one. Because you can also just bring some seafood in yourself, has to be not even from there. I like the concept in general. I often walk trough wet markets and think "Hey that sounds interesting! But I dont know how to prepare it". The "bring your own ingredients" concept is fun
❤EATING AT Dampa' is a once-in-a-life-time experience - live fresh seafood galore rarely available in the wet markets. With my youngest son and my care-giver, I enjoyed "curacha" (pink crab from the deep sea) most available in Zamboanga at P350/kilo, prawns, and sea shells! Wow! God is good! Praise God! You should try our local fruits (jackfruit, marang, durian, atis, avocado) rarely found in grocery stores galore! Peace and joy! 🇵🇭🙏🏻👏⭐️🎉
The original Dampa place is in Paranaque also in Metro Manila. It is the go to place to celebrate an occasion like birthday or anniversary before the eat all you can and the Korean samyupsal became popular 😊👍
Plain white steam rice is best for seafood. It will make the seafood dishes more flavorful. Garlic rice is great for breakfast only with your Tocino( sweet pork belly) mussels is my favorite, clams are good with glass noodles and calamari is best when grilled till it turns purple ❤❤❤dipped in vinegar with sili and cucumber 😊thanks for sharing.👍🏽😋🌞
*_Your daughter's camera shy, I thought you left her in the hotel, lol. Enjoy your stay here in Philippines... and thank you for loving my country._* ♥
i love the content in this video...envy you for the delicious foods you are eating....am impressed with how Colt is so articulate...missing Brooklyn....
Thanks! Ya, Brooklyn is at an age where she’s making choices for herself and we don’t want to force her to be on camera if she doesn’t want to. But she’s actually feeling more and more like vlogging with us lately so she’s in upcoming episodes. And she loved our Sydney visit on Always Be Changing 🤗
Philippine government should just give you dual/honorary citizenship, your family is doing great things for our country, much more than most Filipinos ever will. So much good will here!
OMG, that is so cool you don’t pay the food until you get done eating wow 😮 I love that idea, i will look for that place next time we go back to the Philippines 🇵🇭 thanks for sharing and enjoy
Looks like you enjoyed that experience! And don't sweat the stress; you'll get used to it eventually. Just remember: primary stress on second-to-last or last syllables only, and check if you need to cut the airflow from vowels that end a word!. Otherwise, is it just me or is Brook more content to be in the background for most episodes? Would be nice for her personality to shine a bit through airtime, if she doesn't mind.
Yay! You should 😊 we don’t know what the total was because our friends were so generous to treat us. I do remember that they gave us a good deal on the lobster (3k php)
Hi 👋 I know everyone notices that Brooklyn doesn’t participate as much. We want to give her her freedom to choose if she wants to be on camera or not. We love showing her off to the world but at her age it’s important that she wants it for herself. I think if we’re patient she’ll come around on her own terms. 🤗
Yep, she gets to decide whether or not to participate in each episode but she doesn’t get to decide whether or not to join us, so sometimes she’s on camera and other times just in the background. A new phase of childhood and shes navigating it well! 🥰

So true - no dish is complete without rice. When I visited the Philippines in December, my guides called rice ‘Filipino power’ 😂
Haha! I like that :)
Rice is a staple food among many Filipinos and even to some other Asian countries as well

The ones in the plastic bottles are Mantis Shrimp. Their "punch" is strong enough to break the aquarium glass, that's why they are in plastic bottles.

Good job on eating seafood at Pasay. Btw try watching a basketball game live as a family or try visiting Star city. Highly recommended for the family.

You can buy the seafood first and choose whichever resto to bring it to and cook for you. And they should have suggested the shrimp to be cooked another way or you could have had em cooked 2 ways. The most popular is getting it cooked “tempura” style. Garlic butter is good too. But since the crabs were cooked like that.. the shrimps could have been cooked differently. The crabs are more popularly cooked sweet/chilli or Salted Egg style. And the most popular cook for the squid is calamari or adobo.
