It's so great to see a mother shows her appreciation to her son, very touching and sweet. Caleb knows Mommy and Daddy love him very much, and he'll always love you. Both you and Alex have strong bond with Caleb and Finn Finn, which is great.
Being a new parent, I can feel how much the baby touches you and changes your life. It’s never been easy to take good care of a child. Hope you are all good and happy in Tw!
Years ago, I was shopping at David Jones, the premier department store here in Australia, at their Chatswood store. The store assistant was an Aussie lady and a school teacher before she had her kids. Her husband was a Hong Konger. She told me that when she took her eldest child for his first day for school, she was heartbroken for she no longer had him full time. She cried as her child walked into the school building. She had taught as primary school teacher and had seen parents, especially mothers, cry at school gate on the first day of their kids' school lives. She never knew exactly what it meant till her own kid starting his schooling. I am one of the younger kids of my parents so I never saw any emotions from them. They probably were happy that I was finally at school leaving them less need to do with me. Lol. I think first child has that added emotional attachments for the parents especially the mother. The life's change from first child is always monumental. Often there are surprises that parents never had expected till the first child arrives. Parents grow and learn more about themselves. They often become braver for the sake of the kid in dealing with difficulty and challenges in life. They are better as a person due to this experience. It is not to say that younger kid(s) are less important. It's just that the transformation in parents' lives are much more significant. With younger kid(s), it's sort of repeat only. On the first day of my school, during lunch time, just before I started on the lunch, for whatever reason, I called out "mummy". At least I thought I did. But no other kids noticed. The school food was different from mum's food so it might have been that. Lol. Yes, just ask Caleb if he has similar sentiment on his first day at school.. I was somehow embarrassed by it at the time. Lol .. If he does have similar embarrassment, well you definitely have him still .. My mum's cooking has always been the best....
I have never seen a thing touching my heart about mother talking about her child.Caleb,who is going to start the primary school! Lucy ,you are so wonderful and wish your family have endless fun and happiness forever!
I remember the very first day my son went to school, which was just like yesterday. By now he just graduated from a grade school in Michigan, but came back to continue his 6th grade in Taiwan. I teased him that he would graduate from grade school twice. Talk to your Caleb everyday, after his school and participate every activity in school, hopefully this will alleviate your fear of loosing Caleb.

One thing to add .. Perhaps don't be too worried about your Chinese language skills and likely higher difficulty in helping Caleb with his study. My parents, like most of their generation, had next to no education. So they never could sit down to help with our schooling at all. But we managed. And we kids appreciated their own limitations as it's how it was for them. Kids don't just need schooling. There are heaps of things you could teach and show your kids with other than school works. I'd rather have good wisdom from parents than anything else. I am sure your kids could benefit and get more from your own experiences and wisdom than just learning from books...
Yes, this!!! As a teacher I feel programmed to make sure he is on top of everything. Everything is reviewed etc. But he is doing that the majority of the day and it is all the other things he is going to be lacking. So, I have reduced my workload and we will be playing, socializing, baking (but only with own brand ingredients because I’ve reduced my work hours! 😂 only joking…ish) AND I am ready to listen to all the things that have gone through his head that day but hasn’t been allowed to say.
You're as proud as a peacock when you're talking about your son but can he remember the trip or the countries he visited before he was 5? As far as I'm concerned I can't recall any thing before I was 5 but after that I can remember almost every important thing as if they happened yesterday!
He says he can but I wonder if that’s because of the photos etc. we didn’t really have such reminders when I was younger but still remember some holidays from before 5. Some are my favorite memories. I hope that all he sees helps develop his personality. Being adventurous or understanding of other cultures, and peoples needs etc. 😅 I hope 🙏❤️
Chinese characters are difficult to learn, but Mandarin grammar is easy, it's just my thinking. I remember there has one British wife (not Amy) who often participate in Taiwan's foreign spouse talk show several years ago. She seems can't read Chinese characters, but she can speak Mandarin, I don't know how she did it......but she's not on that show anymore.
I have always preferred writing than speaking because I don’t have to show anyone. 😅 But this is exactly what I am helping my students overcome and I need to take my own advice. 🥰❤️ Thank you for your encouragement🙏

我覺得有趣的是，這完全不是台灣父母會有的態度，竟然會感謝自己的小孩！！！真正的台灣父母養育小孩想到更多的是給家裡交代、責任壓力、無奈煩躁，充滿著不得已和勉強...她的小孩很不錯，剛要上小一就跑遍北台灣的博物館和動物園，那是還沒上學老師要求交報告繳作業就樂於想去...台灣人是只有為了學校交作業才會去

I am afraid of having kids. They are growing too fast and I have to learn how to live without them. So tough…
