THANK YOU for posting this!!! I had no idea how to take that driver’s side CV flange off. You saved me from (stupidly) tearing the diff down to get to it!!
1. Another video that's a win 2. Both together for 30 seconds another win 3. Face down holes up another win. Well looks like we are 3 for 3 here gentlemen!
Is it possible to remove and re install the driver side bearing adjuster on the vehicle to replace the O-Ring? I was hoping I could just mark it and install it back in the same location.
Bearing races..... I changed bearings in my S10 once (2005). I greased the bearings perfectly. After hours of driving (3?) the bearings seized and blew. I just now (2021) realized it was because I didnt change out the races. I’ve considered the various facts of this story many times, but never have I considered the fact that failing to replace the races was a factor.
Yea, bearings and races tend to wear together. It’s best to change them at the same time. Also, you wouldn’t grease the bearings in a differential as they get lubed with oil.
@@RecklessWrenchGarage Did you leave this out of the video? Did you use a setup bearing for this? Do you need to set the pinion drag when checking pinion depth? If so, can you use the same (new) crush sleeve?
That was easy, my driver's side axle shaft is really stuck. I bent the slide hammer foot thing bolted to the flange. Read somewhere that the retainer ring can get worn flat so they won't come out. What do I do? Cut the shaft off and pull the carrier?
Remove the diff assembly with the shaft installed. Take the diff housing apart with the shaft still in it, take the bolt out for the center pin, slide the center pin out as far as you can and use a punch through the carrier to hit the shaft out.
Thanks for the great video. I pulled out my AAM IFS 9.25 Front Differential from my 2002 Chevy Silverado 3500 LT LB7 and wanted to know how you removed the Axle Bearing adjuster. It was in and all of a sudden removed. Is there a special tool or did you use a drift to spin it out?
Dumb question... Can you weld a GM 8.25 IFS front diff? Not one that's full time AWD. So it will be a locked front end once you shift into 4x4? Is this a dumb idea?
The case and frame mounting points between the two are different so, no, it wouldn’t be a direct swap. I’ve read about people doing the swap and over coming all the obstacles, so it’s an option, but I don’t know the details.
Awesome video!! Do you happen to know if they have any LSD or posi gears for those front diffs? Either the 9.25 or 8.25. I have an 08 Escalade and have been wanting to upgrade with bigger CV axles and LSD but have a hard time finding anything thanks for any info?!
Does anyone know if you change your gear ratio on your truck should you change install a torque converter with a different stall speed or does it affect your torque converter at all
Eaton makes an E-locker for the 9.25, which is what this is. I don’t know if there is a locker available for the 8.25, but if you give Yukon a call, they could tell you. Or look it up on diffwizard.com
I'm rebuilding an 8.25" right now! Super helpful!

You answered the pinion preload questions I had, thank you
NOTE. the special sauce from Yukon is a 3way mixture of red n green chili with an equal part permatex
😂
What will they think of next?😳

@@RecklessWrenchGarage yeah, I meant the bearings in the front hubs. Either way, watching the video made me realize what I did wrong.
excellent video!
Nice job, this will be helpful to me.
Thank you for your video. I recently replaced the actuator motor and I had some oil coming out from the hole. Is that normal ???
Good vid👍, just did one of these the other day,
Great video thank you what a big help!!
Did pinion depth change ? Did you just shim it the same as the old one? How is it checked on this unit?
The pinion depth is checked the same as a live axle.
I was actually able to use the same pinion shim stack on the front diff.

I used a drift, but you’ll want to be careful if doing the same.
@@RecklessWrenchGarage Thanks, Is that left or right hand threads?
Right hand.
Dumb question... Can you weld a GM 8.25 IFS front diff? Not one that's full time AWD. So it will be a locked front end once you shift into 4x4? Is this a dumb idea?
You could, but you’ll constantly be spinning your driveshaft which could lead to further issues.
Question: Can I take out my 8.25 axle and replace it with a 9.25? Are they the same size?
The case and frame mounting points between the two are different so, no, it wouldn’t be a direct swap.

I am not aware of any lsd parts directly from Yukon; however, there is an Eaton e-locker and an ARB air locker available for them.
Hi
How can i adjust the adjuster on gm 2015(1500).bcz this adjuster doesn’t have any locking tab
Special Sauce - Nice & Deep - Quick & Easy. That’s what I learned from this video. Lol 😂 Stay Reckless my dudes!!!
How much would you charge me if I dropped off a 9.25 ifs diff and you helped me rebuild it?
1 bolt hole on the case You went around the hole? Is it leaking today? @ 10:35
No leaks have come from the case since being reassembled.
How did you hold the pinion yoke to get the sleeve to crush, I cant get my crush sleeve to go. What is the trick!?
I held the pinion with a ford wrench. There is a tool that you can get specifically for holding the yoke also.
i have a 2003 hummer h2,i have a spare rear diff with locker, will the locker from a rear diff swap into the front diff
The part numbers are the same for the 9.5 rear and 9.25 front carrier. That said, I would say yes.
What is the carrier bearing preload set to
Does anyone know if you change your gear ratio on your truck should you change install a torque converter with a different stall speed or does it affect your torque converter at all
Any idea if they sell the front locker for a base model 4wd? I haven’t been able to found one for the front anywhere

Easy…Just weld the spider gears where the axles clip in. Or you can buy the carrier with welded spider gears for like $200
Where is your shop located
Will a 4 locker work in those front axle
I don’t know what you mean by ‘4 locker’.
@@RecklessWrenchGarage meant to say e-locker
I would say yes, considering there is an e-locker available for the 9.25.
🤙
You should put a Cummins in the tow pig
I have a duramax I considered swapping in, but we might just fix up the duramax truck instead so we can pull a goose neck.
Is this the same process in a hummer H2
I’m not sure if the H2 uses the 9.25 or 8.25, but yes, the process would be the same since the mechanics of the two are the same.
This early what’s that
10:00 that’s what she said
