    Thanks for the walk-through and review - was thinking about picking this up, but I'm not sure about all the charts. I wouldn't have known that without your help - so, thanks!

    Thanks for talking through the game, It finally made me buy the game.
    Maybe I've overlooked it, but I can't figure out where to download the flowchart from Lou Correa?

    Have it, loving it. A very enhanced Queen of the Skies. Still learning the flow but getting it down and it's getting easier. In addition I am trying to add in the options to add to the immersion. Another added community environment I am also enjoying is an online play based on a group/squadron setting - 509th-vbw.proboards.com/. P.S> I modded Lou's chart (credited him!) adding some graphics and a few things to the flow including some if not most of the options.Forgot to note the updated flow chart is on BGG and requires 8x14 instead of 8x11.

    If you like TfT, Picket Duty (Fletcher Class Destroyers at Okinawa) is the same style of mass charts but lots of fun with the extra damage control rules. Extra fun on Kikusui attack days. I did not have the issues with the small counters you did. Stuka Joe had a great playthrough and the BGG table flow-chart guides are Mandatory.

      I have had it on preorder for months but I am still waiting on it to arrive. Ordered from a retailer so I have wait for them to get it in stock and ship it out.

      I must have ordered it right at the end of the preorder phase with Legion. Got it in the mail first week of March.

    There is one thing i miss in the game, supporting fire, so in each zone i roll 1D10, on 1-3 i roll 1D6 ammo loss of 1 box in random gunnery positions.

      I'm not sure since this is a little old. I would check BGG since they should have it in their files section

    Out of "Target for Today", "B17 Flying Fortress Leader", and "A Wing and a Prayer", what is the better game ?

    • @thegimpygamer
      @thegimpygamer  6 лет назад +1

      Haven't played Leader so I can't judge that one. Today and Prayer are pretty close in my opinion but if I had to choose between the two I would put Prayer first.

      I would say you have to group Leader and Wing for comparison as they operate at the more strategic level. Target for Today is single bomber and so quite different.
      Leader has a mini game for single bomber so you could play that for a cut down Target experience. Likewise, Target has a cut down Leader mini game where you keep track of the rest of the bomber wing.
      I haven't play Wing but I play Leader for strategic level and Target for the single bomber experience. I find with Target you get really attached to the guys on board and it gives the strongest narrative experience. Leader is still a very good game imo.

      I have played all three, and most enjoyed Target for Today.
      As others have said, despite being a luck heavy game, Target for Today tells a story.
      I didn’t enjoy Wing and Prayer because it was very luck heavy, but didn’t create any sort of narrative in my head. Just endless dice chucking and missions with no contact.
      Flying Fortress Leader is a great game, probably the best of the Leader series. However, it really shines in its longer campaigns which, imo, take too much time to play. If I could leave it out over a couple of sessions, it would be my favorite.

      I have TfT and am enjoying the heck out of it, especially when I apply the detailed rules and options. I don't have Wing and a Prayer so can't comment on it. I own FFL but have yet to try it. I love the TfT single aircraft system and as mentioned above the game becomes more personal and creates its own storyline as you try to get both crew and aircraft to survive. I have heard good things about FFL and am looking forward to the difference it offers, strategic challenge versus the single aircraft.

    So what is the difference between this game and B17QotS? Looks to me like a reprint where things just have been shifted around.

    • @thegimpygamer
      @thegimpygamer  5 лет назад +1

      To be fair not much besides this one being deeper.

    • @SlotraceDK

      Deeper in what way?

    • @thegimpygamer
      @thegimpygamer  5 лет назад

      @@SlotraceDK I havent played the other so I am just guessing based on what I have seen. It just seems that this one has more options for possible results that the previous one.

    I always get the impression that this is a game with no game play just random dice rolling.

  • @turks1966

    I do think that went a bit chart happy in this game. When you compare it to it's inspiration B-17 Queen of the Sky, the amount of charts needed is way to heavy. Having played both, I think B-17: Queen of the Sky plays as a cleaner and simpler game, it might not be as deep, but I think it's a more enjoyable game to play without the constant chart referencing(much of your information that is needed is found on your player aid cards, without every having to reference the rulebook, not true in Target for Today). Target for Today does have nicer and cleaner components, but I think they felt they had to add more chrome to the game and it wasn't really needed and it tends to bog down this newer version of the same game making it more of a chore to play and a bit less fun than it's predecessor.
