Please pray for me. I'm trying to sell my little farm. They are building thousands of houses and apartments in my formerly small town here in N Texas. Traffic is horrendous and so many serious accidents because of all the people coming in. I'm praying this sells and God sends me the perfect place to live a simpler life and to be able to grow my own food. Where I am now, I don't get the summer rains. One year it was 6 months with no measureable rain and this year none since May. Thank you and I love you all!

There are many like us we just need to find each other.
This very subject came up this last weekend. My sister was visiting & helping can salsa. She wanted to go do something. She says when she tells people she was up north to visit, everyone asks, did you go.... or...
So we took her on a drive to area lakes & boat launches. Not sure that's what she wanted, but it is our life style.
Then brother-in-law calls and wants to visit in Oct. He says, maybe we can go out and rent a pontoon for fishing or something...
When the grandbabies come to visit, they always need to go to the store or go to the pool, or beach, or....
We are homebodies. We ramble around our 160 acres, looking at the trees, flowers, mushrooms, animals & such. Checking fences or fishing in the local stream. Why do people come to visit & then want to go someplace? I feel that we live in a beautiful vacation area, free of crowds, riots, ect. I guess we have just slowed down to enjoy God's abundance & we don't feel we need to constantly going....
Are they trying to run away from something??? Maybe themselves? Seems like they don't want to spend much time just being.
Maybe God is just calling us out of the crazy paced cities, so we can get closer to His peace & tranquility 🫶

I'm on disability with a small homestead & I am enlarging it as I can without going in debt. My kids often tell me, you need to go on vacation or go do something. I am doing something & this is my vacation, I love where I am & what I am doing. It's simple & peaceful.

@@tambrasmith9707 OH MY GOSH you sound like my sister! I do the same. I live in an apt complex in a very rural area and it has a small field at the back. I've built a small veggie garden this year and I'm out there all day! My neighbors tease me about moving out there and pitching a tent. 🤣

In my opinion, this was the best “Porch Time” I’ve listened to. I was in the rat race from before i could get working papers until 2 years ago. At 69, i finally have peace even in the mist of this chaos. I worked in the private sector achieving “success “, when i had kids, i worked in education part time in order to have more time with my family… Now i always wanted a farm but wasn’t on the same page with my husband. But now “retired” (ha!) i do things my way on our 2 acres in the north east. I have a large garden, chickens and rabbits. If i could get a mini cow, i would. I spend time talking to God and His creation and i can say i have found peace ❤ i wish my husband would move to a larger and more remote property but he will be 80 and says he can’t start over. He is introverted and likes to work from home as an engineer. We have compromised and him working has provided the finances for my endeavors. No debt, house about payed off but in my state they can take your home free and clear if property taxes are not paid and we both will not comply with whats coming… that is my biggest worry.

I don’t leave my property very often other than twice a week to church that’s 3 miles away. I don’t like dealing with people! Foreigners drive me crazy (those here illegally). I’m building my homestead. I have enough to do to keep me busy. The work isn’t what stresses me. It’s the having to do other stuff. Drs, grocery shopping, or anything I have to leave the farm.
I completely changed my life in 2020 when I was close to retiring. I decided to buy vacant land, 65 and single, by myself working like mad to get what I have done, done....built house, barn, now fence and then livestock (not yet, just chickens and my gardens) and now the less stress, looking for ways to bless. Unfortunately I wished I had done this a long time ago. Been watching you guys about 2 1/2 years now....learned so much. Very thankful for you guys. Stay well.❤

Thank you for porch time today Mr. Danny. I long for the simpler life just as many others do, and agree it is because that is what God intended. I would like to ask for prayer for my Mom, she has been in the ICU on a ventilation for the past 12 days now, and now they are wanting to do surgery to install a trach. It would take awhile to explain it all but please pray for her and me as well as I am her advocate and trying to make best decisions for her has been hard. I lost my full time job at the same time this all took place as well, so we really need prayers. Thank you and Miss Wanda for all you do, and thank you to this community for praying for each other. I'm your age, I've had 2 new hips, one shoulder and for a femur fracture repair.
My husband and I are very much in the same thinking as Wanda and yourself. We are both retired and take much pleasure with the tasks necessary to achieve a more self-sufficient life....We were just talking last night about when we had careers, and the difference being that we served everybody but our Lord and ourselves and those in need with whatever small help we could provide. It's a much better life now.
My husband and I are the same. We probably work harder now than when we had jobs, but the rewards are so much greater. Shalom ❤
Funny, misconception in how retired people live now. I had a choice…nice little postage-stamped lot, gated community, nice house, plenty of cheaper employed people to wash windows, vehicles, take care of the lawn, and on. And then what? You sit in a rocking chair and deteriorate? I choose a more active life and have gotten rid of many beautiful items to just be in nature, work about 6 to 8 hours per day on my property. I am grateful for everything my garden produces, and God will find me working until I can do it no longer. If my effort is not for me…may serve some else in need. Had my oldest grandson impressed with just cucumbers growing in my garden…so started his own garden…that’s how it works…leading by example. Danny talked by a staycation. Yes…love my place…lots of work. Hate going into the city for anything. Even a little traffic is annoying.

We live on 5 acres but some folks bought my grandparents farm next to us. They have 3 boys that run their 2 cycle motorcycles which makes it unbearable at times. They know they are loud and their mother has told me she knows it’s obnoxious but it still goes on. They have 67 acres in the back which helps some of the noise. I realize it’s their land now but the noise is ridiculous. We are in our 70s and would just like peace. I’m going to let the Lord speak to them.

Good morning Danny.
There are going to be millions who didn't see what was coming but, only a few saw the messages.
At 69 when I just sit and try to relax I tend to feel like I am being lazy. Worked hard all my life til I got hurt at 57 and couldnt work anymore. But I still have my house, yard, flower gardens and vegee garden in all but winter, to take care of. So plenty to do. But now I am supposed to take it real easy for 3 months as I just had a chunk taken out of my left lung. Sure hard to do when u are used being busy most the time. Lower back and shoulders all messed up so move slow and cant lift much, but still get chores done. Time to get wood for my wood stove and have to have someone do that for me now. Will be glad to get healed up by the end of November so I can do what needs done. Love living simply! Its still work but I love it!

I feel the same way I love stay vacations. I worked 17 years at hospital doing x-ray and I am now retired and I am living my best life so happy to stay home garden take care of my chickens work on flowers, canning cooking projects.
My staycation is no babysitting my grandkids, my husband fishing, no appts. Love being home alone!

I long for a simpler life. Unfortunately we are in a subdivision on less than 1/4 acre. I do grow as much food as possible and but in bulk and can lots of things. My prayer is that one day the Lord will provide us with a larger property, but i remember on a porch time in the past you talked about using what you have to the fullest extent until God gives you more. And i am working on doing that. We are not in a situation where we are able to sell and buy a bigger property right now. So we are doing the best with what the Lord has given us and praying for His provision and protection and guidance, until He chooses to move us elsewhere.

They don’t bite but 2 or them are stuck together.. that’s why they call them love bugs .. they are extremely bad at this time of year in the piney woods

Ahh….the simple life! Funny that I moved away and changed my life to create this simplicity only to find all this WORK to raise some food and to maintain small livestock.🤷🏻♀ No regrets! It’s a big learning curve for this old lady. Thank you, Danny, for your leadership. Great focus today - what ARE my priorities? Just one….or two tasks in a day. I will never be self-sufficient, but I am contributing SOMETHING towards my health. Quite a journey to exit from that system. Helping our neighbors - just a bit - to build community is a wonderful thing. ❤
I grew up in upstate NY in the mountains. It was already a small town but once Walmart made it there it devastated the local economy even more. Because of this I vowed over 13 years ago to never shop at Walmart. It’s not possible for most but I moved down to GA & love to support local as often as I can. I miss small town America so much…..

Keep it simple, that's what my nephew always say's, and it's true. I used to go on holidays and enjoy the beautiful flowers. Then one day, l thought, why don't you spend the money on your own beautiful flowers, then you wouldn't have to go anywhere, and you can see them all the time. So that's what I did.
Brother Danny, When less is more! You have discovered the secret of contentment in your life. 8 years ago, we started our adventure on our 11acre homestead. I can finally say I'm satisfied with what we have accomplished. We do stay at home vacations and provide about 60 percent of our own food and electric needs. We only raise chickens but have a large garden, some fruit trees, and berries.
Solar system, emergency water, and an abundance of wildlife. Most importantly, we share our abundant garden with the local food bank supporting the local community. I also volunteer my handyman skills with our church family for those in need and unable to do simple household repairs and activities. Our goal is to live by the golden rule, expand our self-reliant independence, create more friendships, express our appreciation for our creator, and continue to spread the love. The closer we live to nature, the more we will live a peaceful life. When our lives are cluttered with an overabundance of material things, we lose focus of what really brings us happiness.

Our Daddy had a Grist Mill for making fresh cornmeal! He had a Corn Shucker Sheller when we got to be teenagers! He also had a Sogum Syrup Mill! And he also had a Sawmill! All of these things operated off of a pully that was put on the back of the tractor that operated the Belt Pully for all of these different equipment! Awesome and Fond Memories! Your story fits ours almost perfectly. Our new life was most certainly directed by GOD so much so that we still sit in awe at how HE performed it. I always knew nothing was impossible with GOD but knowing it and living it are two different kinds of knowing.
Danny, I’ve had a problem somewhat like your heart rhythm issue. Mine is a barrage of heart palpitations at night when I’m still in bed. I had a stress test and angiogram a year ago. My arteries were perfect, and the cardiologist believed it was due to spikes in my blood pressure. I’m turning 67 tomorrow, so hopefully you are just fine too. Loved this episode, such wise, and Godly words.🙏🏻✝

Best thing to clean your car is a old woman’s stocking with some baking soda. Your right you have to clean them quick. If you keep a good wax on them and good wax or rain x on windshield they will wash right off. The mirrors will need a lot of wax also.

I work a full-time job and come home and work the farm full time. We don't take vacations but we love our homestead so much we don't want to leave, ever. My relaxation is watching the animals. Maybe some day I can enjoy it more than I do now by not having to work outside the house.

Danny my Daddy planted 40 acres of cucumbers one year. My brother and I worker so hard but we had so much fun when he took them to the pickling company and sold them. The smell was bad lol. But we learned so much. I feel just like you and Ms.Wanda. Home is where my heart is.

Praise God, I was blessed with some beets, I made powder from them to make my own beet root capsules, next I'm gonna make liver powder. I'm doing the best I can to raise my own food and saving water.

Mr. Danny, we totally understand what you said about the “big city” Dr appointments. We have an hour n half drive to the big city for all my hubbies specialist. Those early morning appts are horrible. We are fighting work and school traffic and we are so stressed by the time we get there. We ask them not give him early appointments. We are used to the country side, where our traffic jams are getting behind a tractor. 😂

Danny, I don’t mean to sound like a weirdo, but when you were ending your talk to us, I looked intently into your eyes, and I could see your goodness and happiness inside of you. This is the only time I’ve ever experienced that with anyone. I wonder if that was related to God in some way. I simply don’t know, but, given the fact of I’ve never experienced that before, I’m now thinking it was.
I hope you and Ms Wanda, and anyone else that reads this comment, thinks I’m a nut case. (Because I’m not). It was difficult for me to articulate.

Just looked up the bug JEESH! You just described my small town. I remember when I was in my twenties. I lived uptown above one of the stores. The store owners would come out and sweep the sidewalks and talk to one another before opening for the day. I could walk all over town and get whatever I needed. I sure miss those quiet times.
My favorite swimming hole is walker springs, Mississippi. I’ll never forget drinking cool spring water from the ground and the rope swing on the creek :)

Yes Southwest Florida, used to have a ton of love bugs, have noticed they are not as abundant as they once were I haven’t even seen any of this year. The area that I live in now for 30 years is it regular suburban neighborhood, when I move there I had not a single house in a 4 to 5 mile radius no street signs nothing. Hard to adjust to All the changes

I know exactly what you are speaking about Danny, I raised 50 Cornish cross meat chickens, I had no idea how much meat I had lol so I filled my little chest freezer as it’s just my husband and myself, I went to the single mother raising 2 boys that I gave eggs to before, when I knocked on her door and asked her if she would like this chicken meat I had vacuum sealed she started yelling at me , so I left went to the next home who gladly took the 2 sams bags filled with chicken, gave another 4 sams bags to another elderly couple raising 3 grandsons and struggling, I raise enough to help my mom, daughter, granddaughter but I can’t keep it up due to cost, and processing by myself and working I am cutting back since no one wants to help . The puzzled and amazed looks on the needing families faces I just smiled and said the Lord blessed me so he could fill your freezer with some meat.

I love this talk. It makes me feel like I’m not the only one who likes to be home all the time! And perhaps I’m not a weirdo because I get stressed out when I have to go to town or to a dr appt! I like slow living and being out here in the country.

Our week is like yours days run into each other. I remember when stores were closed on Sundays and if you needed gas or anything you better get it before they closed on Saturday or you were out of luck. Stores were closed on every holiday. Where we live people are selling farmland and houses,trailer parks, apartments, storage units are everywhere It used to be we were mostly family and in our immediate section it still is or people that you went to church with. Now I hate how the land has been sold below and above us. There was hardly any traffic now it’s almost constant. We don’t know the people above us in the 2 subdivision and trailer park or below us. Places my husband has places where people let him mow hay now most of that has been sold. I absolutely hate it. I hope y’all have a blessed week. Love from NE TENN.

My 29 year old found something that gives her peace. She loves to bake. She makes all kinds of bread from pumpkin bread to garlic knots to just regular loaf bread. It's funny how something so simple can put you at peace. The bad thing is I get to sample all her goodies so I'm gonna have to up my exercise routine. 🤣
I agree with you. I love being in my garden, my pond with my dog and grandchildren. I want simplicity
I am on my porch and it doesn’t feel like an oven at 6am. It’s in the 70’s for lows and it feels so nice!
Go the day before to the hospital get a hotel and take less stress off. Gives you time to find out where you need to go.

I'm 58 years old and I retired last month so that we could get back to the simple life.
I grew up the same way. Working on the farm and the only time we took a week off for a vacation was when we let the milk cows dry up before there next calf and we had to start milking them again.

Danny yall should get some of the men folk to come and help you with the building of the Sogum Mill! Because there's nothing better than those same neighbors and friends and relatives that likes to come and help cook the Sogum Syrup! Our Mom would cook a big pan of biscuits and take down to the Sogum Mill for them to eat some fresh Sogum Syrup! Plus our Daddy had ordered guard size buckets to put the fresh made Sogum Syrup! Some we would sell to have extra money! Then other times my Dad would give a can of Sogum Syrup away to help a family in need! Everyone Be Blessed!
